Rocksmith

Haha, yeah, Johnny Marr better watch out....

My mate gave me an old acoustic to mess around with mid-December so I'm two weeks ahead of schedule perhaps but I've only been playing 10 minutes here and there 'cept for yesterday when I had 90 mins on my own electric.

Not saying the chords are perfect but when I set the Gain to maximum then they sound distorted enough to not be able to hear the imperfections ;-p

Really feel as though I need to get Rocksmith though so I can start playing along to songs with visible feedback/progression.

Got my guitar! SO far I've got D, A and C chords sorted and can do about 26 chord changes in a minute (using the tutorials found on www.justinguitar.com ).

Wished I'd preempted receiving the guitar and bought Rocksmith now as it's back up to £50-ish everywhere again now....

Have a look round some key sites as lots have this on offer at the moment for £15-£20.

You'll still need the cable, but should make some saving overall.

"Key sites" meaning PC right? Not an option for me mate but appreciate the idea.

Having watched a few vids of this game I'm not even sure I want it now. I want to learn guitar by reading music, knowing the notes, from what I saw last night, it seems to literally be like Guitar Hero with graphical representations of the notes?

Think that could delay my development.

Dunno as its still 'real' notes and you get Chord indications.

I think for the sake of the cost of 2 guitar lessons, you get something you can measure yourself and practice with long term.

Thanks mate, appreciate those thoughts, I'll keep an eye on the price and get it next time it drops again.

My problem is that I'm okay at hitting the single notes but then it wants me to play a chord and I just lose complete track of where to place my fingers.

More practice needed! My parents bought me a Yamaha Pacifica 112H for Christmas and it's expected to be delivered next week so can't wait for that to arrive.

Decent pressie that Dags!

I'm trying to learn "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" so have introduced G and Cadd9 to my practice routine now.

I'm ok with my (now) 5 chords individually but moving seemlessly between them is going to take a LOT of practice.

(I just do 10 mins here and there daily).

The justinguitar website I've already mentioned has an excellent tutorial.

I need to spend some time on those tutorials. I tend to just go to Rocksmith when I fancy picking up the guitar but I guess I should try and split my time more.

I have a Stealthplug USB cable for my guitar that I use with Amplitube. I reckon that would work :)

I'd check to see if anyone else has tried that cable. I asked around and was told that only the official cable works.

I finally decided to bite the bullet and get this (£45 from Argos after watching the Amazon price go up and down more often than a Neil Warnock team). Picking it up today so I'll report back in a few days.

After 3 weeks I've reached a conclusion that this game can AIDE your guitar journey rather than act as your sole tool to learn guitar.

I'm enjoying it a lot - especially when I want to add some fun into my routine - but I'd like it a LOT more if the strings were numbered on the display as well as coloured.

The colours aren't really something you can take with you moving forwards so to have them numbered too would supplement the real world.

Lovely, cheers Dags. Shame I'll ever get to play this with my mouse at work though but still looks like some fun.
