Replicating Guardiola’s Barça 2010/2011

Hello, my good friends! Since I couldn’t find another post discussing this topic, I decided to open this thread myself—not only to exchange opinions but also to share a tactic that I believe is the most similar to the way Pep’s Barça played in the 2010/2011 season. Although his cycle lasted longer, that particular season was my favorite, mainly because they beat a star-studded Real Madrid 5-0 and, of course, because watching that team play was pure joy—at least for me.

Without further ado, I’ll share the tactic here, and then I’ll provide some explanations!

Let’s break down this tactic a bit:

As you can see, the tactic starts off as a 4-3-3, which then shifts into a sort of asymmetric 3-4-3. This is because, taking that famous Barça vs. Real Madrid match as a reference, Barcelona would position themselves like that when in possession, creating width not just with the wingers but also with the attacking right-back—Dani Alves in that case—who in my setup is represented by George Tanner. When he pushes forward, his position is covered by the Right Center Back, Xavier Mbuyamba, resulting in that shape we’d later see on the field.

I’ve tested the “Wide Pitch” advanced instruction, but I feel like the players end up too far apart from each other to link up effectively. The opponent always takes advantage of that extra second to steal the ball and launch deadly counterattacks.
If somebody dont understand spanish the advanced instructions means False 9 and Gegenpress just that.

Playing Styles:

  • GK – Offensive Goalkeeper
  • Right CB – Extra Frontman
  • Left CB – The Destroyer
  • Right FB – Cross Specialist
  • Left FB – Defensive Fullback
  • DMF – Anchor Man
  • Right CMF – Orchestrator
  • Left CMF – Hole Player
  • SS – Creative Playmaker
  • Left Winger – Prolific Winger
  • Right Winger – Roaming Flank

I’ve gotten some big wins like 3-0 or 4-1, and also some tighter matches that ended 1-0.
This tactic has been tested on “Old Bastard” gameplay with Legend difficulty and assisted controls. It’s given me a really enjoyable experience. I’d love for you to try it out and let me know what you think. Feel free to share any opinions on whether anything should be changed. If you have any questions about the tactic, ask me right here.

Visca Barça!

I’d like the following users to take a look at this post, since I believe they’re really into this and we could exchange some great material! @klashman69 @qtspaghetti @DN7 Kits
