Rematch - New Football Game

Christ almighty, I know it's supposed to be an unserious game, but when you realise how close it is to FC (the ball zipping around like a laser without contact even being made, players falling over and starting to get up before they've even touched the ground etc.)... Depressing is truly the word.

I don't see who this is for. This core gameplay experience already exists, but with licenses, and with arcade game modes to boot. Kids aren't going to prefer this to FUT, adults certainly aren't.

This is not to be intended as a simulation football type of game or any sort. Can be seen its direction from the trailer. It's like some arcade fantasy football arena game (something like Rocket League), also made by an indie developer that had success with their last game. I think will be fun for what will be (just some generic arcade, no real teams or real players). Don't think its fair to be criticized or taken in count as a football game as EA or else, even though has some football in it...

The controls are too finicky for an "arcade experience" and you're at a massive disadvantage on controller vs kbm on this particular game.

Hopefully not paired together in the final release.

I mean, rocket league also has a similar disparity between controller and keyboard users and that made no difference to the quality of match making.

Rocket league feels much better on controller than this, the way the camera works in Rocket League is much better and the game is less fast paced and frantic.

It's still in in the beta phase, give them some time to smooth out the kinks and polish it up a bit.

Even so, it's looking pretty bad overall.
The crowd to me should be those who buy a VR headset and rush to buy every games with VR support. Especially if they're VR only like that one.
I understand those people when i see that object price, And i would do the same... Except for that game (I reality i don't care at all about VR for multiple reasons, another story but "if")

My tolerance threshold for football-inspired games like the genius Rocket league but when it's "too much" football like that one...
It's looking too much like a real FG with human and all. It's a real football game, not inspired, whatever it's a 3vs3 or 5vs5.
I really don't care. Got already very hard with the Sensible reboot and the other Sociable soccer so.

I don't want to be Dr. Serious, Professor Buzzkill, Mr. Nobody Have A Good Time...

...but are you telling me - even though it's an arcade game - you aren't going to be pissed off by these ball physics?

When the ball clearly goes in the net but then teleports into the goalkeeper's hands? Come on, man... Why are we here, in 2025?

They make it look like your input matters (which is the whole energy of this studio - that their games are organic), and then - after nailing the ball into the bottom corner - it's not a goal?

I try not looking at it as a football game at all. If I look at it as a normal video game, I think I'd love to play it.

I think you're looking at the game with mismatched expectations. The game doesn't want to be a football sim, it doesn't want to be a competitor to eFootball or FC or any other football game out there. It wants to be a fun game that people can play with their friends without necessarily knowing anything about football. And I think it's doing a pretty good job at that.

I think it is aimed at the same audience rocket league targets. Most people who play rocket league play it aren't that into football, they play it because it is fun as a video game in itself, and possibly because of its very high skill ceiling and competitive community. I don't think Rematch necessarily wants to target people who play FIFA or eFootball, it exists in a different niche.

That said, from the few minutes of gameplay I've seen it doesn't look all that promising. It's very clunky, and the physics system is not very great. There is nothing about the game that really catches my eye.
The Rocket League ball acts more like a real ball than this and has a high skill gap. This has silly ball physics etc and what seems to be a very low skill gap.

Exactly. Rocket League was the only MP game I played the past 20 years (I played Counterstrike back then) and for me it's hands down the best MP game ever.
There's a way to make a good MP game like Rematch but you need talented devs. Full physics for every part of the body and full physics for the ball. These devs can't code and implement these unfortunately. Game will be dead after 1 week.

The ball physics that rocket league was going for and what this game is going for are very different. This game is aiming for a certain cartoonish aesthetic, and the clunky ball physics play into that aesthetic.

The developers have already proven they're extremely talented, their previous game Sifu was widely acclaimed. Your wild statement that the game will be dead within a week has no basis in reality whatsoever, especially since gamers from other communities are already appreciating the game in its current state. Just because the game doesn't adhere to your absurd expectations (full physics for every body part really?) doesn't mean that it won't be successful.

Without trying to defend this game, I can say that if I'll be a casual gaming guy playing just family games, puzzle games or other stuff without any notion about football in general, I think I'll like it a lot no doubt, to play it online with some friends on weekends. Cartoonish aesthetics, few defensive and offensive mechanics, and just fun controlling some "anime" character with powerups eventually. You'll go with the ball in one way, somebody will try to take it, then some counter on the other side (while the GK is another player), thinking who'll go up, who'll stay closer to the net, and working synchronizing in team etc...

Of course from the footage alone needs to be cooked more during those months, but eventually will be positively received as a competitive arcade game, will see...

That's the big problem to me and probably a lot of people. It looks and move too much like a football game that i can't see it as a "normal video game" with the same exact rules as... Football.

Even if some football fans football can, see it as a Shaolin sports game / parodic super hero type but fun : then i hope you will enjoy it ;)
We all see things differently, even if it seems very obvious to me, i see that some people got a different eye on that game.
Different eyes on (the) game(s) in fact, that good to read it and get the "why" from one person to another.

I am happy to help you out to avoid the loss of reality of other eyes.

In my eyes, the only thing left to do is to cheat the customer.
The companies are no longer at eye level with the customer but out of reach of the customer's perspective.

I'm fed up with today's view of trying to find something good even though it's shit.

Why an expectation of full body physics is absurd? It's an arcade MP game and it needs to be strictly skill based to succeed. I'm not even asking for something very complex, just ball vs body physics focused on the speed when the ball hits the 3 parts of the body: Head, legs and chest. LT/RT or LB/RB implementation with timing window for each leg when receiving a pass calculating the speed vs impact vs controller timing. RS/LS for head/chest controls.
My opinion is this kind of game with glued ball to body physics will be abandoned by online gamers rather quickly.

Full body physics are insanely complicated, especially when the game has such a camera that allows you to see so much. Even if the physics engine is 99% accurate instead of 100%, the camera will make the missing 1% painfully obvious.

I think that the physics make sense for this type of game, and it will have an active community for at least 2-3 years. But it is too early to make any kind of assessment given the game is still in beta.

Thanks for replying. Before you shared your point of view it never occurred to me that it would be hard for some people to separate this game from something like eFootball and FC (which is of course completely fine).

About your point of the Shaolin Soccer/parody game, that is how I view the game. Not as a realistic simulation of the beautiful game but instead as a video gamey arcade competitive game. Thank you for understanding that other people may have different opinions.

I disagree with you in that the gameplay is bad, I haven't played it yet but from the footage I think it is very enjoyable. I don't think looking at it as a football game like you do is necessarily the correct way to look at the game to appreciate it.
