PES2010 discussion thread

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

i disagree. the ball physics, animations, sound, graphics,Game modes,Licencing and AI are all bad in PES games now

If thats what you really believe Jonney, then you can exclude yourself from this debate on the fact PES is wasted on you. Stick to Fifa pal.

On a different note, I hope you get all your games on your 'wish-list'. ;0)

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I think Konami need to offer a more realistic manager mode, based on real leagues (as in Fifa) as well as the Master League for those who prefer more of a fantasy football experience. That way everyone is happy.

Also the structure of the master league needs to go back to how it was in the PES1-2 days where you started in division 3 and had to work you way up to the division 1 where all the best teams were. It was simple but much more fun than the current ML format.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Not to throw a spanner in the works, but I would have loved to see a complete fantasy world of players and teams - rather than real teams,

As it goes now, you kind of already know the best players and where they are.. IMO there is nothing better than a decent scouting system where you find 'gems' or checking obscure leagues for the top scorer and bringing him to my club to see if he would cut it..

The current messed up league structures and the some teams real, some not - some players real, some not just bores me really quickly

I suggested this over on pesfan, and it was quickly thrown out as a bad idea, but for me it should be either all (fifa) or nothing.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

This news are very interesting but nothing about new engine?not good!

Agree. Konamis problems wont be solved unless theres a new engine. It's not possible to have an organically played game with the current engine which is way dated. I have no idea why, in the 3rd attempt at a PES for the 360/PS3, there hasnt been a new engine! Baffles. Now they are throwing all this PR mumbo jumbo our way. After 2 years of PR jargon, Ive had enough.:FAIL: Ill get excited when a new engine is designed.

Just my opinion. Please dont hate.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

No news about a new engine but Adam on WENB has spilled the beans about Konami FINALLY using Motion Capture

Now this should get rid of the awfully rigid robotic animations. Thank God.:))

From planet360:

Konami Officially Announces Pro Evolution Soccer 2010
by Eric Bush

El Segundo, CA - April 8, 2009 - Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc., announced today that its forthcoming Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 (PES 2010) title will include the biggest set of new features in franchise history, with every aspect of the game benefiting from key improvements. Following months of analysis and feedback from the fans, PES 2010 is scheduled for release on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, Windows PC and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system this Autumn with enhancements in every area of the game.
Konami's development team, PES Productions, have collected positive and negative comments from PES players and the media and incorporated it into the new game. The result will be the most challenging, realistic and satisfying PES experience to date!

Konami has spent the last year expanding the development team's capabilities, and created a number of dedicated sub-teams, each striving to further improve their respective parts of the game both in the short and long term. Key additions and improvements include:

•Gameplay: PES 2010 focuses on enhancing the excitement of matches between players, making for a truly challenging experience that will constantly test the player. Intuitive zonal defending will cover spaces and players need to look constantly for new ways to attack. PES 2010 focuses on being a real soccer simulation, as it requires both strategic play and quick reactions, as in real life. In addition to key out-field elements, goalkeepers are more versatile and with abilities matching those of modern shot-stoppers. The game's referees have also been reworked, with smarter AI elements allowing them to make more balanced calls during matches.
•Improved Visuals: PES 2010 has undergone a major visual revamp, with its celebrated player likenesses and animations now even closer to those of real-life players - including live player expressions to be depicted with an improved lighting system which differentiates between various conditions! Stadium detail is also massively improved, with the grass and other in-stadium elements finely depicted.
•All-new animation and moves: Animations now dovetail into each other seamlessly, with dribbling and shots on goals worked into dribbling animations. More individual skills are also on show, including new flicks and tricks that have a definite showing on the way a game flows. Several elements have been completely reworked, with the dribbling, turning and kicking animations greatly enhanced, while there is a noticeable change in pace when a player passes a ball from a standing position than from within a run.
•Match-Day Atmosphere: Crowd reactions to the on-field action are now more varied, with all new chants and cheers. The subtle, real life differences between home and away matches will be evident and the crowd will react spontaneously to specific situations in a game, showing their disdain or pleasure as fouls are committed and goals scored. Additionally, the commentary has been altered to offer an updated, more concise overview of the game.
•Enhanced Master League: Seen by many as a key contributor to the series' success, Master League will be enhanced to feature a managerial aspect enabling gamers to enjoy managing a team for a longer span of time. The Master League elements in PES 2010 have been bolstered by far-ranging and vital new feature additions, dedicated to enriching the mode. Further details will be announced shortly.
•AI: PES Productions has worked to improve the AI of the game by implementing Teamvision 2.0. Midfielders and defenders now work together to cover open space and close down attacks. This also has the additional effect of removing soft goals and returning PES 2010 to its roots as a soccer simulation. In terms of attacking, players can now move several players at the same time, dispersing them to open areas of the field to create more scoring options giving the player more control. In free kick scenarios, for instance, players can now instigate the runs of the players awaiting the ball in the penalty area. Strategic thinking will be as important as quick passing, and the new system greatly open up the way a player views and utilizes each team member in the field of play.
•Individual Play Characteristics: In previous PES games, the team formation would determine the movements of the team. PES 2010 introduces a new system wherein the individual attack and defense tendencies of each teammate will come into effect. Each player enjoys unique AI tied into their abilities, and is reflected in the actions of their teammates - i.e. if a player who is in possession of the ball is known for his crossing skills, more teammates will pack the penalty box to receive it. Similarly, if a player is known to be good with close control, defenders will work to cover their stronger side, while lone strikers will be automatically supported by midfielders upon receiving the ball.
•Strategy Use: A new power gauge system allows users to balance their strategy in a quick, but wide-ranging way before a match. Every element - pass frequency, movement, the line of defense, width of play, or the position of the front line - can be altered to match those of a favored club: Juventus Turin are a dangerous side on the counter-attack, for instance, while FC Barcelona use width in their attack. These formulations can also be altered at any point with Home and Away matches forcing different circumstances on the user, as does the rigors of a Master League season. Penalties: An all-new system has been implemented, offering greater control, placing and accuracy.
•Enhanced Online: A new dedicated section of the PES production team is committed to improving the online side of PES 2010. More downloadable content is also planned. Konami has supported PES 2009 with the release of new licensed teams, transfer updates, etc, and this support will grow for PES 2010. Team and content updates are planned throughout the game's lifespan. These will make the game even more bespoke to the player's match day needs.
Konami has strengthened its relationship with UEFA and can announce it has secured the exclusive video game rights for the Europa League License (formerly known as the UEFA Cup). In addition Konami will be enhancing and developing the use of the UEFA Champions League within PES 2010 to make even better use of the best club football competition in the world.

Konami has also confirmed that Lionel Messi will once again be a key endorsement player for PES 2010 and will be an active participant in the promotion and development of the game up through launch.

"We have been monitoring feedback and comments on the progression of the PES series for some time now, and PES 2010 will see us implementing a great deal of the ideas players have been requesting," commented Naoya Hatsumi, Producer for PES Productions at Konami Digital Entertainment Japan. "We aim to make PES 2010 a more user-friendly, and immediate experience that places the emphasis on getting straight into the gameplay for which the series is famed. PES 2010 will look better, will play better, and will recreate real soccer as closely as the current hardware will allow."

More detailed descriptions about new features and updates will be revealed in the coming months.

All information contained in this news post comes directly from a press release sent out by Konami.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Thanks, but we already read that a week ago :)

No news about a new engine but Adam on WENB has spilled the beans about Konami FINALLY using Motion Capture

Yes, but Adam also wrote an article on WENB that a new engine was not needed in his opinion. I do not agree with it. I told him so, but his answer was this:

"The article was more of a response to people on forums jumping on the bandwagon without really understanding what it entails. For me, people screaming 'new engine!' are saying that the PS2 and Wii versions recently are rubbish, and the way PES plays is awful. Thats nonsense. If PES nextgen engine was the same, then it would play the same as PES6 for e.g. on PS2 - but it doesn't come close."

I can not agree with that either. With the current hardware you need to adapt your enigine in order to get most out of the current consoles. Adam is normally well informed about the novelties around PES and that makes him very valueble, but this sounds like defending an old engine. He also said that he really did not know if PES 2010 will have a new engine. His article was to explain what engines are about.
Well, let's wait and see...

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I really think we need to drop this 'engine' chat as we are all out of our depth in regards to what the definition of an 'engine' is... and whether a 'new engine' will automatically mean a better game. Given that the overwhelming feedback is that PES has 'gone downhill since' PES6 it seems strange that the recommendation would be a 'new engine', back-to-the-drawing-board approach. Surely the answer here is to take a step back and try again using the lessons learnt already (ie traditional iterative model), but get it right this time.

New coding (ie a new engine) will bring new problems so that gap between a 'new engine' and gaming bliss is probably far larger than that between the current engine and gaming bliss.

I think Konami are right to take the 'White Hart Lane' approach to improving their product, rather than the 'bin everything and start again approach.

Anyway - given that you can't even change formation without pausing in Fifa, you can't activate an offside trap in less than 2 seconds and scoring from outside the box is practically impossible (manual shooting blah blah...), I am confident that Konami, despite some horrific technical shortcomings, can really get back into this game if, for once, they actually listen to the free feedback they've been offered...

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I know what you mean Han. As much as I'd love to see PES using a new engine, tbh I haven't the slightest idea what actually a "new engine" really means. To me, "new engine" means motion capture for basic animations like running, walking, shooting, passing, jumping, etc + on the fly animations using NaturalMotion's Euphoria Engine. Now, to me, if Konami implements that then i'll be over the moon.

But, that doesn't mean that PES's existing engine is piss poor. Maybe it is good but the programming was bad. Robotic/Rigid animations broke the game for me. If that was changed to mo cap, then that adds a whole new theme to PES. Also a few graphical enhancements here and there would do fine.

I'm not a programmer myself but I can only think and ask myself what if programmers can use the current engine in PES and make the most use of it. How would it turn out?

PES 2009 isn't all bad imo. I'd love to play it only if it weren't for the awful rigid animations. That seriously is a big turn off for me. Oh and the passing should be script free.

I'm not a programmer and I have no idea how easy or hard programming all that stuff for a seamless smooth football game is. Thinking of it now its a pain in the ass making the perfect sports game.

I can only pray Konami do their best with PES 2010 and are true to their word this time.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I think a little bit of realism is called for - check out what Riot said in this podcast

http://share.ovi.com/media/suffdaddy.WENB/suffdaddy.10055

Riot - a real insider - unlike some that claim to be - says no new engine, no revolution, but simply that PES2010 will be an updated PES2009.

Personally I'm bored by all the excuses around Konami & PES - frankly FIFA is going in the right direction (excellent manual controls, good online features etc.) and Konami will not simply have to be near to EA but blow them out of the water to win me back! And honestly does anyone really think that will be the situation this year?

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Well Lami, as you probably remember, I am a programmer.
The engine is the part of the game that coordinate program-code for graphics and the way the graphics are moved. For instance the engine needs to understand if your pass is really ment to go towards one of the 8 directions ( or 16, which uses another engine).
In FIFA the engine simulates 360 degree control. The game is not really using 360-control, it is simulated by the engine.
That engine takes control using AI ( another part which is used by the engine ) of the direction the ball is passed. Also, the engine does the animation management. For instance, what animation is needed by a certain degree turn.
I find it hard to describe in English, but hopefully you get the picture :)

This is a VERY OLD podcast: From 2008! Facts has changed and there is a completly new situation right now.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Han sure it's an old podcast but I'm 100% sure that work for PES2010 would have been going on at the time. As for these new "facts" go ahead and let us know. After all a gr8 game cannot be put together in 6 months time can it?? Anyways if PES2010 turns out to be little more than an update - don't say I didn't warn you :)

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

The most basic stuff should have been covered many games ago in Master League....

1. the ability that if you are doing well with your team selected then other teams come in and try and sign you as in a manager mode so you are not stuck with the single team you picked to start. This will keep the master league mode interesting and fresh with other goals to achieve.

2. Retired players STAY retired and do not come back a a 17 year old. How hard can it be with the ability of a next gen console to randomize 1000 or so names that come in when players retire and this could be the basis of a youth network to scout.

3. incorporate Champions League, Europe League into end of season Master League with point 1 and 2 above then i have no doubt the Master League will truly be "masterful".

Not exactly a wishlist but if you are watching employee's of Konami these 3 points would change master league for the better and then revel in watching copies fly of the shelf.

creases in shirts, untucked shirts moving hair please do not go down that road and think this will make it a better game...it just makes it look pretty but it would still be poor underneath.:TTTH:

See if you can go back to the glory days of gaming. It's not much to ask is it?

Not wishing to get in to an argument but -

Konami have expanded, and it appears some time ago. The work for pes 2010 appears to have started prior to pes 09 which would explain why it clearly represents about two months owrk over pes 08 as most resources focused on 2010.

Riot is simply a games journalist and that's as much as he can be described as an insider. He offering an opinion and part of his opinion was that animations were to remain largely the same. Well now there's MO-CAP so that's out. There's also a full tactical module a la FIFA 09, so there's more progress.

And then you have konami releasing details 6 months prior to release with the promise of screens in a 2 or 3 weeks witha video expected in late MAY. It's clear that this is not a game that's been worked on for 6 months - if it was poor they'd have limited exposure in teh way they did last year - this year they're shouting from the rooftops as early aspossible.

I'm not a pes apologist nor am i hopelessly optimistic and taking press release at face value. BUt i'm sure your sensible and don't want to simply complain - it appears you may be able to take less notice of what Riot said last year and perhaps look forward to a great pes game - lets hope so!

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

OK but I'd think Riot might be a little bit better informed than anyone posting on here, or any other forum, to be honest. I mean all that stuff about 200 more people working on PES - everyone simply takes it at face value. Why?

Still like you say if PES2010 is a brilliant mind-blowing simulation of soccer then we will all be happy...but I'm not holding my breath...life is too short.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Never heard of this Greyhound fella before but just Googled him and in the first interview I find with him, I read this:

Greyhound: I'm very happy to have that question. Personally I would like to continue that management series but the company has this new direction [on Wii].

I would be very happy to include some PES management features in the next Wii version of the game.
Looks like I'll have to save up for a Wii then.

Down with Seabass, up with Greyhound!

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Down with Seabass, up with Greyhound!

To be honest, i've never understand all the anymosity towards the Seabass fellow...yes the game is not as good as before, yes FIFA is better, but are we sure that he is to blame ??? And does it really matter if he would be to blame ??? Sometimes i think some disappointed people will become suicide commando's and do a raid on Seabass' home or office.
Seabass works in a big company and there are certainly other factors that make that PES is disappointing the last few years.

He's the face of PES and the leading force behind it, I think given the way PES has been allowed to fester to the state it is now deserves all the vitriol the guy receives...

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Well I'm sure Seabass would enjoy this vid

YouTube - FIFA 09 (Xbox 360) English Commentary Pack #2 - PART ONE

kinda what a next-gen sports game should look like.

Still we should not get too depressed about things afer all we will have the annual ritual of having Adam & Suff from WENB playing secret versions of the game that are X10 better than anyone else will ever see. It's one on the biggest jokes of the year methinks.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

Don't worry Theo, we have you here to tell everyone how bad PES is and how good FIFA is, so everyone's a winner.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

It's great that the PES community have comedians of the distinction of Adam & Suff and let's not forget ThomasGoal :) they all do wonderful work.

Re: PES2010 News & Rumours thread

I would love PES2010 2 be the best football simulation ever seen...but honestly I have me doubts.
