PES games on retro handhelds

For sure is more demanding than ps2 emulation, but battery consumption depends on emulator, settings and game you play. I.e. I can play PES2013 in gamehub about 4 hours which is totally ok for me, ps2 probably will be a little bit longer. Number of cores used/processor affinity is important setting here I suppose. I always tried to set it as minimum as possible for the game.
Yo tengo una Odín 2 portal de 8Gb RAM y no consigo mover en condiciones We9LE con el instalador de Sany ... en ninguna de las configuraciones baja media alta a 60pfs

This is my Anbernic RG477M playing WE7i in classic 4:3
Surprisingly comfortable handheld and the best Dpad I've ever used besides a Vita or Sega Dpad.

Hey, that looks good, I am thinking of doing emulating on handheld, would I be able to play any of my PES2008 ISO’s on that too?

Thanks

Every WE/PES game on PS2 runs on it. Some require slight tweaks and others run at 60FPS.
If you tell me which specific ISO you want me to try on it I can let you know because patched games will have a varying amount of data to them and the emulator it's self doesn't utilise the systems full RAM capacity. In fact I think Nethersx2/ PCSX2 only utilises 1GB of RAM and having checked Google you also need a minimum of 4GB of RAM for Android assets when running it but it's recommended to have 8GB of RAM for Android assets. The version I bought was the 12GB RAM version.
Anyway, let me know which one of your ISO you want to try and I'll get back to you tomorrow

Thanks, i guess this one but you also need the option file too which is all included in the link …

Thanks again.

PS I did not realise the whole page will display with the link.

I was thinking of buying this …

RG35XX H Retro Handheld Game Console, 3.5 Inch IPS Screen Linux System Retro Video Game Console with 64G TF Card Pre-Installed with 5500+ Games, Support HDMI TV Output 5G WiFi Bluetooth 4.2 (Black) https://amzn.eu/d/049WpTSj

I would like it for classic PES also emulating C64 games.
I already bought one like this but it is vertical and the screen is a bit small.

PS I just found out PS2 games won’t work on this one :)

@geeeeee on RG477M it works the same as Vanilla 2008. Meaning it will require you to play it multiple times to build up the shader cache in the emulator. This means you might get the odd menu sound crackle or a slight drop in frame rate for a specific player movement or keeper save etc. Once the shader cache is built up it will run smoothly. This will be the same no matter what device you get since that's how the emulator works.
I will say with the RG477M the fan sounds like a jet engine until you update the system software, then you can add a custom fan setting (I have it set at 90 which still cools it enough but means I can't hear the fan) and also the shoulder buttons, although they're good, they are also quite loud so if you're buying it so you can play on the couch whilst the wife is watching TV then I can imagine it would annoy her 😄
Another thing to note is that I play WE/PES with the Dpad since I find it more accurate and this device is comfortable for my play style. I don't think it will be comfortable if you use the analog stick since it's placed at the bottom.
Is it a 4:3 that you want specifically?
What's the amount you're willing to spend on one of these things and I can point you in the right direction.

Thanks very much for the info, I really appreciate it. I am still not sure what to do, I already have an Anbernic RG 40XXV which I use when I go away. I mostly play C64 games (showing my age now) but I find the screen is too small.

Initially I started looking at the Evercade EXP-R with Tomb Raider but it got some mixed reviews regarding low sound, not blue tooth etc.

Then i came on this thread and thought if i can play PES on there even my PES ISO that would be great. There is too many options too many choices too many people wanna take my money

I kind of want something which is easier to use, just plug and play or just install from pc and good to go. I guess that is why Evercade is more appealing because of the cartridges.

But in answer to your question I can go up to £250 and I don’t mind using the D-Pad, and i will sit outside if the fan is too loud

Thanks again :)

If you want to play PES games from PS2 flawlessly take a look at Retroid Pocket 4 Pro or Retroid Pocket 5/ Retroid Pocket Flip 2 if you want to spent less. If you have more money take a look at Retroid Pocket 6, Ayn Odin 2 Portal, Ayn Thor. Highly recommend devices with snapdragon chipset if you want to try pc emulation. Retroid and Ayn are android based handhelds, not plug and play but no so hard to set.

Thank you, I will check these out too. :)

Do you know if they will be able to play patched ISO's? I have my patched PES2008 and I have changed kits on the ISO and emblems etc.

None of them are really plug and play but they're very easy to set up and if you get stuck you can always shoot me a message. Alternatively, if you check out this YouTube channel, this guy goes into mega depth about each system.

As you said though, there's too many to chose from. As well as the Anbernic RG477M I've got an Odin 2 base model. That's also a good device for PS2 emulation which also lets you upscale to 1080p and runs stuff smoothly. I'll say it has a stellar battery life, good controls (if you prefer Analog control) and that's a wide-screen device so you can use wide-screen patches. You might be able to pick that up slightly cheaper now too since the Odin 2 Portal and Odin 3 got released.
The retroid devices are also good ones so I've heard but I've not owned one so can't really comment. I read that the retroid pocket 4 has some issues with PS2 games but the Retroid pocket 5, Retroid pocket G2 and Retroid pocket 6 are all top notch.
Anyway check out some vids on retro corps and it might help you decide

One guy asked how to run PES 2017 on Android, so I answered and sharing it here as well — maybe it will be useful to someone.
He later confirmed in the thread that it also started working for him on the Odin 2 (Snapdragon 8 Gen 2). By the way, PES 2017 should run smoothly on devices with weaker chipsets, such as the Snapdragon 865 (devices like the Retroid Pocket 5, Retroid Pocket Flip 2, or the Mangmi Air Max ~ 200-250 USD devices)

Based on my experience with emulating PES 2017 on Android, I recommend Winlator 10.1 because you can run both the game itself and the settings.exe file directly from the SD card, which is not the case for all PC emulators on Android.
For example, in GameHub I was able to launch the game, but settings.exe would not run, which meant I couldn’t change the controls, game resolution, and other settings.

I tested it on an unusual chipset that is more oriented toward IoT than smartphones — the Qualcomm QCM6490 from the Fairphone 5. This chipset is slightly less powerful than the Snapdragon 865, so on an Odin 2 with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 you can definitely increase some parameters, since you have a much more powerful chipset.

In my case, the game ran smoothly at a stable ~60 FPS with Low quality.

As for the Winlator settings:

Screen size: 960x544 (you can try increase resolution)

Graphics driver: Turnip (Adreno) Version : 25.1.0, Max Device Memory : 4096 Mb, Enable dircet Rendering

DX Wrapper : DXVK 2.4.1

Audio driver : ALSA

Box64 Preset: this is the most important You need to create a new preset in the Winlator settings. Simply clone/copy the “Performance” preset and then edit the newly created so that the DYNAREC_SAFEFLAGS option is set to "2".

You can also rename this preset, for example to “PES2017”. Of course, in the game shortcut settings you should select and use this preset.

In general Container settings in Advanced tab :

Startup Selection : Essential (Load only essential...)

Processor Affinity: you can disable CPU7

In game settings via Settings.exe:

Screen Mode : Full Screen

Resolution : 960x544 (use the same as in winlator settings)

Quality: Low (you can try Medium or High)

and of course at the end you need to set Controls.

Hi, I'm trying to play PES 5, 6 and WE9 PC games on Retroid Pocket 6 via Winlator. The games runs stably at 60fps. I fix some missing sounds by adding DX8.1 libraries but I'm still having issues with random audio stutters from commentary, music, chants, etc. I've tried all sorts of settings, fixes, voodowraper etc. and haven't found a solution. Can anyone help me?

What version of winlator did you use ? Try Winlator Cmod v13.1 it was the best in my trials with older PES games on Mangmi Air X, you can find my post somewhere above in this thread. Another option is to try enable/disable env variables like WINEESYNC or add env PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC and try with values like 30, 60, 90, 120. This is just guessing based on some experience from other games. BTW nice to hear the gameplay is stable 60 FPS on SD8 gen 2 chipset.

thanks for the reply. The game runs beautifully smoothly but the stuttering is annoying. I have to turn off the music, commentary and the chanting also sometimes breaks up.
I am using the official Winlator 11. Could you provide me with the basic settings of your Winlator CMOD?

Sound stuttering solved! Setting the PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC and WINEESYNC attributes works like a charm. I still have a lot to learn. 🙂

Great to hear, would be cool if you write here all your settings and parameters including emulator, drivers, patch version. It could be helpful for others.

So here is my configuration for playing old PES/WE on Retroid Pocket 6 12gb ram (SD 8 gen 2). I'm using the PES original season patches.
I had to install dx8.1b libraries to windows/syswow64 for fix missing sounds

official Winlator 11:
Resolution 1600x900
Turnip 25.1.0
DXVK 2.6.1
Frame lock: 60
device: GTX 1060
max device memory: 4GB
env. variables: WINEDLLOVERRIDES=dmime,dmsynth,dmloader,dmusic,dsound,dsdmo=n; PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=30; WINEESYNC=0
compatibility: windows XP
Box64 preset: performance
Startup selection: agressive
Processor affinity: last 4 cores

dgvoodoo:
antialiasing 2x
texture filtering: 4x

How are libraries installed? Where can I find the graphics cards in winlator 11? And texture filter and antialising

Here is a link to DX8.1. It was necessary for me due to sound problems.
link
Just copied the .dll files to windows/syswow64 and set DirectSound and DirectMusic to native in Winlator + set variables WINEDLLOVERRIDES

The graphics card is set in the DXVK configuration, but it is not necessary.
You need dgvoodoo to set antialiasing and improve performance.
