PESBUL 2021
PUBLIC BETA SERVER IS NOW LIVE
NEW VPS • NEW INFRASTRUCTURE • MAJOR SERVER UPDATE
After many weeks of development and testing, the PESBUL 2021 server has officially moved from
Alpha to Beta and is now publicly available on our completely new VPS infrastructure.
This is not simply another emulator update. The entire public server is moving away from the previous home-hosted machine and tunnel-dependent connection.
The new VPS gives the project a much stronger foundation for public hosting, future development and a growing number of players.
NEW PESBUL VPS INFRASTRUCTURE
8 CPU CORES
16 GB RAM
160 GB HIGH-SPEED NVMe SSD
2 GBPS DOWNLOAD
2 GBPS UPLOAD
DIRECT PUBLIC CONNECTIVITY
The previous Alpha server ran on ageing home hardware and depended on additional tunnel and relay infrastructure. That setup helped us develop and prove the emulator, but it was never intended to become the permanent public server.
The new VPS provides:
- 8 CPU cores for the emulator, relay services, website and administration systems.
- 16 GB RAM for the server services and growing player database.
- 160 GB NVMe SSD storage for much faster server and database operations.
- 2 Gbps download and 2 Gbps upload network connectivity
- A direct public connection, without depending on the previous home-server and tunnel route.
- Better availability and a much stronger foundation for future growth.
This infrastructure upgrade is one of the main reasons why the project is now moving from Alpha to Beta.
1v1 FRIENDLY LOBBY — PLAYABLE & IMPROVED
1v1 Friendly Lobby remains the main supported PESBUL game mode. The new Beta fixes two important room-management problems.
The host no longer becomes Ready automatically
Previously, when a guest entered a room, the host could automatically become marked as
OK/Ready, even though the host had not selected that state.
This incorrect behaviour has now been fixed. Both players control their own Ready state correctly.
Rooms can now be reused after the match
Previously, after a completed match, the existing room could become stuck or unusable. The players then had to leave and create a completely new room before playing again.
The room lifecycle has now been corrected, allowing the players to continue using the same room after the match.
CLANS & CLAN CO-OP — PARTIALLY AVAILABLE
The Clan system has received significant development, and a much larger part of the original functionality is now available.
- Players can create clans.
- Clan information is stored and displayed correctly.
- The correct clan owner information is shown.
- Clan Co-op lobbies are available.
- Clan rooms can be created.
- Players inside the room are displayed correctly.
- The game correctly distinguishes the room host from the other clan members.
- The room can progress to the original Co-op matchmaking stage (match cannot currently start).
CURRENT LIMITATIONS
- A player can send a clan join request, but the request cannot yet be accepted from inside the game
- Co-op matchmaking does not complete yet.
- A Clan Co-op match cannot currently start.
The Clan rooms and lobbies are functional, but Clan Co-op should still be considered experimental until matchmaking and match start are completed.
TEAM PLAY 11v11 — STILL IN DEVELOPMENT
Team Play 11v11 is still not playable, but the underlying connection and GameRelay protocol now progress much further than in the older server versions.
The following stages are now working:
- Тeam Play rooms and their participants are recognised.
- The Ready state is processed.
- The original match countdown is processed.
- The server provides the GameRelay endpoint.
- The client connects to the GameRelay service.
- The secure GameRelay key exchange is completed.
- Encrypted and compressed post-Secure traffic can be decoded and analysed.
- The game now enters the GameRelay loading/connection stage instead of immediately showing “Unable to connect.”
WHAT IS STILL MISSING
- The complete post-Secure application-layer server reply is still being reconstructed.
- Side Select is not reached yet.
- The 11v11 match does not currently start.
We want to be completely clear: Team Play is not yet a working game mode.
Reaching the secure GameRelay stage is important technical progress, but we will not call 11v11 functional until players can reach Side Select and actually start a match.
DATABASE & ADMINISTRATION IMPROVEMENTS
The PESBUL database already contains more than
3,000 player records. Moving to a new public server therefore required a real migration system—we could not simply start again with an empty database.
The Beta introduces:
- A database export/import system for moving user and player records between server installations.
- A safer path for future server migrations.
- Improved dashboard user management.
- Optimised user-list loading—the dashboard no longer needs to load thousands of users at once.
- A backend designed to remain manageable as the PESBUL community continues to grow.
These changes are mostly behind the scenes, but they are essential for running PESBUL as a long-term public server.
FROM ALPHA TO BETA
The previous Alpha proved that the reconstructed PES 2021 online services could work and that real online matches could be played after the official servers were shut down.
The new Beta represents a much stronger public foundation:
- New public VPS
- 8 CPU cores
- 16 GB RAM
- 160 GB NVMe SSD
- 2 Gbps download and upload
- ]Direct public connectivity
- Important 1v1 Friendly Lobby fixes
- Improved post-match room lifecycle
- Partial Clan and Clan Co-op support
- Major Team Play 11v11 protocol progress
- Database export/import
- Improved dashboard performance for large user databases
This remains a Beta, so bugs and incomplete features should still be expected.
When reporting a problem, please include:
- The game mode
- The usernames of the affected player
- The approximate time of the problem
- What happened immediately before the error
- A debug export whenever possible
Thank you to everyone who tested the Alpha, reported bugs and supported the project.
