PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

I'm assuming the online beta won't allow us to setup open lobbies, rather it'll just be a quick play setup for either 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3? So it'll be a case of just spamming a ton of games online hoping that not every single person picks Barcelona!

I think Adam said it has just two teams, didn't he?

The open beta is just to test how servers and online quality are influenced to heavy traffic, to avoid release day issues.
There will be lots of Barcelona vs Barcelona.

Ah good shout, probably going to be Barcelona & Dortmund then considering the close ties between the clubs and Konami.

Has there been any more beta sign-up info released yet? Just had a look on the official Konami PES news page, and the last bit of news about it says "look out for our surveys" (to gain access) - but there's been nothing yet!

The vibe I got from Adam's mentioning of it at E3 is that it'd be a completely open beta - no need to preorder or enter any surveys in order to have access. It'll just be available directly on the PS Store and XB Store and everyone can then download and play.

Cheers guys, must have missed that.

Interesting strategy, with all the videos and an open beta so early on compared to most years (where we've only had shaky camera footage to go on, and not until Gamescom in August)!

I really appreciate it though. They know what fanatics they have and this feeds us until release. I wish we had the same openness from EA...

If I was Konami I'd hold out on releasing stuff, Wait for Fifa and directly try to claim that they have what's missing from Fifa.

Get a couple of you tubers abd reviewers to promote the game as a better alternative but AFTER Fifa play their cards. Coz right now Fifa has around 15 basic gameplay fundamental features that Konami can't even contemplate challenging. Otherwise it'll be constant hyping with no real substance.

Usain Bolt?

How about we start with different goalnets, Better replay or a broadcast camera options and perhaps a new twist on master league for a change.

Too late for that @shez The hype for PES 2018 is already off the charts.
I have even seen some Websites/Facebook Pages which didn't even have PES on their radar up until now, they pretty much acted as if PES didn't exist, and now they are not only saying that PES could even be better than FIFA this year but they are also pointing out things FIFA should definetely copy FROM PES. That's already a win for Konami if you ask me.

Honestly, who would have thought 2/3/4/5 years ago PES would look miles ahead of FIFA in terms of graphics. Yeah the faces were always better in PES, but look at the overall representation of Football this year. It is light years ahead of FIFA. I know we usually only care about gameplay but we can't really talk about that until we have tried both.

And this lead me to think: If I was the owner of an important football club, whom would I rather portray it and translate it into a football game?. After seeing what PES has done with Barcelona, Dortmund and Liverpool... the question pretty much answers itself.

Also... the Champions League representation. Back when EA had that license, what did they do with it? They used to put out a special game just for the Champions League which didn't have anything out of the ordinary, nor anything they couldn't have included in that year's FIFA version. Poorly represented. It didn't even come close to what the Champions League should feel like. PES still could be better at this, but it's still better at it than FIFA was.

So this treatment Konami is giving to their partner clubs might just be the way into re-gaining some lost ground and get some licenses back.

If they could just hold on to the Champions League license for a few more years, and they make a big noise with PES 2018 in terms of word-of-mouth marketing then.... I can see PES 2019 or 2020 knocking FIFA out of the park for good.

I think the fact that the community still haven't lost hope and are just waiting to see Konami get it right speaks volume of how an awful job EA have been doing. As well as how the heights of the past versions haven't been reached yet by anyone.

The online element can't exist without a solid gameplay foundation, But it can compete if you give users the power to curate their experience by editing their squads and clubs, As well as give them a lot of different modes to cover their thirst. But that's only buying time as eventually people will grow bored of the same product.

The power of PES has always been with the users and not in Konami, They give you a tool and youdo with it as you wish. We need this kind of attitude (at least for Pc) otherwise it'll be a FIFA wanna be until it ceases to exist.

maybe this is FIFA's strategy.

 Bahaha, laughed out loud at work. I needed that, thank you.

FIFA's strategy is "PES, what's that?"

Even if we assume that everyone who buys PES doesn't buy FIFA (which I'd say is nowhere near close to the truth), the lost sales would amount to something like 5% of what they make through Ultimate Team DLC.

My earlier comment, that I'd like to see EA doing the same in terms of giving us videos and a beta, was nothing to do with marketing strategy. It was just me saying "I'd love to know what they're doing" (especially given the average feedback they seemed to receive at EA Play).

Anyway, off-topic, my fault - sorry.

Whatever it is they are doing, fact remains that it has me very curious and i don't think i am the only one. It's a brilliant strategy ( if it's a strategy at all ofcourse).
Why the silence? are they shaking in their boots or like you think, laughing at KONAMI (PES)for all the effort that won't make any difference in the end.

Careful man, don't push superleeds. His rage is off limits these days...

Anyways... I don't think EA shouldn't be worried. A couple of years ago, PES wouldn't even represent 5% of FIFA's lost market. So... if they got to 5% in just one year with PES 2017, I would be worried. I'm really confident about PES 2018 turning over the table in Konami's side again. Not all at once, but slowly starting to turn things over.

Also, I think EA realise most people buy FIFA first. Then PES later, if they do. So they don't really lose sales; they share them.

Even if they buy PES first, FIFA retains it's price pretty well until the day the next one comes out so when people buy it they're still paying £25/30 for it. And then they spend even more money on building the ULTIMATE team.

If You want to make personal remarks You may need to find another forum.

I think it's time we start discussing about PES 2018 again. So does anyone have any more info about the beta? Like what modes will be available and if you can play with the CPU or not.

It's an online beta and they want to test the servers so I think we will have 1 vs. 1 and 3 vs. 3. Maybe also 2 vs. 2 but I'm pretty sure that we won't be able to play against the PC.

:(( . nah, come on. it can't be that difficult
From years.. we waiting for the game to looks like CGI movies or trailers... Well... looks like we are still not even close, still don't have that resource to create it gameplay to looks like real-time human moves and .. situation ... And that is not only Konami! Maybe they can do it but will click and point adventure game.

Are all teams going to be available to pick?
