PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

Does anyone have any influence on Twitter to ask about after game player ratings?
It's not that important but i would like to see more then eg. 7 for GK when he got 2 PK's and few shots cleared.
Thanks in advance!
Good question - you say it's "not that important" but in Become A Legend, you can put in game-winning performances and get 6.5/10, and it affects whether managers pick you etc...

is the neymar no shirt celebration removed in 2018? no one has done it so far which is odd. i wouldnt be surprised if it is as sadly, since 2008 non game breaking features are constantly being removed in the next year's version...and the list is long
still there, saw it in some videos

Probably true but as I said, I think a big reason is because FIFA's gameplay used to be absolutely light years behind PES/ISS. Konami don't have that luxury anymore, which isn't to their discredit but an acknowledgement that EA finally got their act together. And I say that as somebody who doesn't like FIFA.

EA has been smart. They approached all demographics. Arcade, Sim, alike. The sim gamer will never be satisfied, but at least it's put back within their control via sliders. So if you're a sim gamer, you can't complain about not being able to do anything.

KONAMI don't give us that option. If they did, there would be much less negativity going on. Shot speed -5, Shot Accuracy - 10, Marking +10, done.

The same way PES fans scoff at FIFA's gameplay is the same reason FIFA fans scoff at PES' lack of license. FIFA realized they didn't have gameplay up to par, and after one of the best versions of FIFA ever in FIFA 11, they introduced sliders in FIFA 12. FIFA 13 badly needed sliders, and they continued on, then FIFA 14 maintained it, and it's been going on ever since. EA didn't convert PES fans to FIFA, it customized football fans experience to a simulation one by giving them options.

If KONAMI focused a bit more, they would put all their efforts in trying to convert FIFA fans, while giving PES fans the control they rightfully deserve at the same time. It would bring the PES community even closer, and also bring those newly converted fans into taking their new found sim/realism to the maximum capacity.

I've seen that firsthand, and the Operation Sports sliders community is a testament to that with consistently 1 million views. KONAMI wants to look at viable data to review...well there it is.

yea i checked it in a youtube video as well a minute ago. funny how no one has done it though from all footage uploaded

Because it's "last year's thing". When they showed that in 2016's teasers and first videos, PC fans were all disgusted at the fact they wouldn't be getting that celebration. This year it doesn't matter anymore, because we're all going to get it and it's not advertised by Konami in any way. This shows how we all want what we don't have, but once we get it, feelings change.

Played PES2018 yesterday in Dortmund. Had a great time! Love the changes all around the board. Had a lot of footage and skimmed through it the past hours and made this little edit. Atmosphere, the new player emotions. Misses, goals, everything. (And yeah I tried to do an overhead kick a lot to see how many times it activates. Less then PES2017 actually)

That sly trip at 40 secs and the stumble after it . ..and that twitchy leg feint through ball at 1.19 looked amazing.. . .great vid.

Can you blame someone, when all they want is to have a kickabout with their club after a long day of work and having paid $60 for the game when:

a) Your club isn't named correctly, and doesn't look like your team
b) You have to play in Konami stadium
c) Connections fail all the time
d) pc's case, the graphics are horrible

Good question - you say it's "not that important" but in Become A Legend, you can put in game-winning performances and get 6.5/10, and it effects whether managers pick you etc...

I thought it was out of 8, not 10.

But agreed, PES' whole rating system needs to be overhauled.

Nostalgia over nine thousand.

In PES 2017, you must do a perfect tackle, or you will foul your opponent. Yesterday I just checked that with two more friends.

Ball control and pass is nowhere Messish with players 65 / 70 rated from original Master League. Add some rainy weather and ball control is a mess. Playing a ML with Real Betis and fake players. Woah.

So, of course, no, this players can't do Zidane passes.

I think it's boring right now talking every day about PES 3 / 5 / 6 vs 2017.

i agree with above but in 2017 the AI runs into my player almost knocking me over (of course you don't fall) and stealing the ball from me and no foul called. "Ok refs allowing contact i say" On the other end, the AI has the ball, i go to steal just grazing Messi and a fouls given just outside the box. Free kicks taken by Messi and it's a goal! CPU wins 2-1. Without a doubt (and don't make me upload video proof because i will) today's PES scripts or cheats to be competitive through the foul system this is why you don't see consistent fouling or any depending on the score.

Also defense in today's PES is a joke! In old PES my players clear the ball for me like my teammates should. In today's PES my teammates just ball watch allowing the dribbler to go bye and shoot..........Absolute disaster! "It's 1 against 10 out here i say"

I play 2017 about 3 days a week and PES 5 about 2. I like things about both generations but the foul system and defense old PES wins easy.

Added note scripting doesn't start until professional difficulty on up............. I just want fair play...

A small addition, but I've wanted this for so long.

is snow in this year?

Clouds with and without rain is basically dynamic weather from last 2 pes games split into 2 weathers now. if you remember, in many games it was cloudy and rain appeared in 2nd half, or didn't appear at all. Should be just called cloudy and rainy heh.
Still i like it, it's a nice addition. I would like to see at least "afternoon" time return some day.

---wishlist part below---

After seeing aLe's post on page 63, i dug up my wishlist for PES from a few years ago, hopefully we'll get there, or close to there one day lol.

Seasons: Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring
Time: Day (13:00), Afternoon (17:00), Night (21:00)
Weather types: Very Sunny, Sunny, Cloudy, Windy, Foggy, Rainy, Stormy, Snowy, Very Snowy
---Summer: Very Sunny, Sunny, Cloudy, Windy, Foggy, Rainy, Stormy
---Autumn: Sunny, Cloudy, Windy, Foggy, Rainy, Stormy
---Winter: Sunny, Cloudy, Windy, Foggy, Rainy, Snowy, Very Snowy
---Spring: Sunny, Cloudy, Windy, Foggy, Rainy, Stormy

4 seasons would appear by calendar in Master League(and reversed for south hemisphere/south american leagues :P )

*Very Sunny - would be summer only weather, 30-40*C, similar to sunny, but you would see in replay a bit of steam coming from pitch and around it, grass would also in some places be a little yellow/burned out. Could also introduce an optional "water break" gameplay element (example: http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/ORN/TURF/Tropical_sod_webworm08.JPG and https://i.ytimg.com/vi/0fY97sEoL18/hqdefault.jpg and http://im.rediff.com/news/2012/may/28heat1.jpg)
*Sunny, Cloudy, Rainy - like we have now, with rainy being light showers and wet pitch, cloudy being dry pitch and some gray clouds, and sunny blue sky with few or no clouds.
*Foggy - Like cloudy, but with less visibility around the pitch/stands, enough to be able to play the game and see the players/the ball(orange/yellow) obviously. (example, but have bit less fog: https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/118/292867594_397230c85b_b.jpg)
*Windy - Mix of sunny/cloudy, with wind from one of the 4 sides of the stadium slightly affecting gameplay, eg. shooting in certain direction, passing, etc would be tad slower or faster and/or curved, based on wind direction, i think PES 3-6 had it, at least cosmetically. (example: https://www.gordonmac.com/wp-content/uploads/DSCF0749.jpg)
*Stormy - Heavy rain, small puddles showing on 3 or 4 parts of the pitch where your player can slightly slip and lose control, darker gray sky and possibly a thunder in the background appearing a few times during the game as an audio sound and visually. (example: http://www.sbs.com.au/news/sites/sb...T153949Z_1_CBREA1117IG00_RTROPTP_2_SOCCER.JPG and http://i.imgur.com/gvgJQGZ.jpg)
*Snowy - Light snow falling, and around the pitch, with pitch being cleaned and only a few snowy marks on it (example: http://benfry.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/two-crop-levels.jpg and https://bigtennetworks.files.wordpress.com/2015/11/usatsi_8939797.jpg)
*Very Snowy - Heavy snow falling, snow also on pitch (example: https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-medi...l_progressive,q_80,w_800/18ipcoty7g465jpg.jpg)

This would spice ML for me a LOT.

Re: the comments section of the Eurogamer preview.

Nobody else will say it, so I will.

Every single one of those "football, established 1992" c-units can go take a massive fuck to themselves.
It is simply a case of laziness and stupidity, not age.

I remember playing PES 2 and 3 at a Playstation cafe or whatever it was called, with the weird names and kits, and still enjoying it because it just played great. Hell, I must have been 9 or 10 years old at the time... I also remember the Christmas when I got my first PC and PES 5... I was 12 and managed to install all those patches and mods all by myself. A year or two after that, I already knew how to mod PES.

Sounds great to me! You have my vote.
(This was a response to the idea of having two threads on this board for PES 2018 beta feedback.)

IIRC you were planning to take an active role on this board. Right? Any chance of you running this feedback discussion? I will be out of the country for the latter half of the beta.

Geez, so many posts since I last visited. This place is alive!

(Just provided additional funds to KONAMI by purchasing MGS V definitive edition.)

Sorry to reply to this twice, but, the Facebook comments on this article were a bit of a wake-up call for me (in terms of just how hated PES is by younger generations).

The days of gameplay being what matters are well and truly dead and buried. I've said it in the PES PC thread before - when a kid plays FIFA and hates the game, it doesn't even cross their mind to examine why, critique it, or that there's an alternative - and there isn't, when what makes a football game "football" to them isn't anything to do with the kicking of the ball. It's just kits.

I understand all the FIFA YouTubers being invited now, fuck. You can't blame them.

EDIT: Saying that, if Konami do turn PES into FIFA gameplay-wise (I'm certainly not saying that they are), the FIFA fans would still buy FIFA, all of us would stop buying PES, and that'd be that. That last comment...

I think it would make a world of difference to these guys if there was an "option file hub" within the game itself, where you could easily (and without a PC) download and apply option files. Perhaps there are legal issues there, but if they don't actually host the material, and the game lets you make teams appear to be licensed when they're not, I don't see how it's any different doing it on the console as opposed to the PC.

That's a question I'd love to ask to the Konami guys.

i said this, kids don't understand quality and want it easy. Lots of goals and licensing. Old PES we liked because we were a different generation that played hard games, back then all games were hard. Like arcade games were hard as hell to suck up your quarters. We were used to that shit. Kids today are on easy street! EA knows this........and FIFA was born.

It's real simple kids just want more "give me more mommy EA" it's destroying football games. No defense or fouls.

I agree that the reason why people in general doesn't care about Pes anymore is because Fifa gameplay is already good enough and it even has all they want, licenses, modes, better online. There is no more that huge gap between the great Ps2 Pes gameplay and the horrible Fifa gameplay in those years.

Right now KONAMI is doing wrong in just playing it too safe. Little improvements here and there, but they should begin to introduce something never seen before in Fifa, both in gameplay and modes.
Pes needs a proper boost, the same huge improvement we saw from Pes 2 to Pes 3 should have been visible already in 2017, yet they just made it a Pes 2016 evolution.

I can't deny reading Adam saying "this is a big one", "new 3 years cicle" and watching gameplay videos i have been disappointed. I see an evolution of Pes 2017 (something i still like) but definitely not the huge jump forward i expected.

I know, i still have not played the game, but i can already see fouls being an issue again, AI still being too rigid in its behaviour, improved smoothness and animations, but still lots coming from Pes 2017...

There needs to be more talk about the formula relative to the match time. It's been said in the articles alone, that this is a 90 minute match, compressed into 10 minutes. Well, what about those of us who play 20 minutes? Do we count? Where is our voice? How is the compression being done for those that play longer than the given/assumed 10 minutes?

If in the space of 10 minutes, the viewer sees 10 shots, that means there will be 20 shots in a 20 minute match. If 90% of those shots are blasts on the laces, then how could it not get exhausting and boring? Despite all the amazing physics/new animations?

The argument that we have to play it is not going to work because playing "it" is subjective to the match times that it is being promoted.

My biggest fear is I play a 20 minute match, and it plays just like a 10 minute match, except everything is doubled.

Couldnt agree more. I even gave my PES6 away after about 2 weeks because for me it was a backward step from PES5. All a bit over powered, too easy to score, and no fouls.

@Deco, yeh im finding PES2014 quite good at the moment. Yesterday though i tried PES2017 with @curdstar's camera and it plays better. But went to do a little video of the match but then i see all the CPU shots from 20-25rds all hit true and powerful from about 4 different players.

The build up is great but the shots are killing me. I know im sounding like a long playing record (probably the b side of Chris' broken one), but this really needs to be addressed in PES2018. For me i would actually be happy with just that inprovement.

So Deco i will probably play a bit more PES2014 today. Its just a shame that its harder to record.
i agree the decline started at PES 6 I play PES 5 and see a better game.

In 2017 manual shooting is very good on player camera, try it. Stats are noticeable.

I see your point, and I play both, and prefer a lot of the gameplay in FIFA.

But all the top-rated comments on that article say "I can't play PES because London Red and Merseyside Blue and T-shirt kits".

My point was, given the legal reasons why it's like that (and that Joe Public doesn't give a monkeys about those legal reasons), it must be a hell of a struggle to sell a decent number of copies (and therefore, to continue to invest in the game).

Ok, say Konami dumps PES (i highly doubt it because of sales in football market is incredible) will just get another publisher like 2K. We will always have two football games. Ten million copies sold annually is to good to pass up.

It is simply a case of laziness and stupidity, not age.

^This.
Most kids these days are so stupid and tribalistic, has to be one over the other, never both. All they care about is superficial rubbish, whether the latest dab or Dele Alli handshake is in the game, if numbers on cards have gone up etc. They do not care about gameplay, I'd even say most of 'em don't even have a real interest in the game of football (Judging by younger cousins and the general YouTube crowd).
They will never give Pes a go now that fifa has become more than a game of football (in a bad way). Which makes the marketing tactics frustrating. The youtubers couldn't care less about Pes, even the latest video out doesn't even have the name of the game in the title! "The other game" lol!!
I do understand the audience numbers and reach of these guys but I don't think it's that easy, and it's probably too late anyway. As the guys above have already said, unless they can get all the licences and stadiums (the only thing fifa has over Pes), it's a lost battle.

Also, just watching England v Germany u21s, and the reduced player sizing on 2018 looks spot on. Pes is the only game that even resembles real life football (if played the right way). I hope they nail the more tactical side of the game though.

Beyond Matt's observations on positioning, I'm completely and utterly done talking about "issues" in videos for a game I have yet to play. This is especially the case now given the accounts of those who have played it and are more likely to be on the same page as I and more folk on here than many would like to admit, who are saying it was an excellent game to play.

We really don't know how all the new stuff will pan out, just how significant a difference it makes not only to PES but football games in general. The videos currently available, if you totalled them all up regards duration, would barely scratch the surface of how much PES2016 I played, nevermind PES2017 I played, and I went off PES2016 before the end of 2015, with me only playing it again come EURO16 time.

The other, even more important thing to consider, is that combining all the videos together would amount to a shite load of videos of players more or less at the same level regards exposure to the game, so it would prove even more inaccurate a representation of where I will find myself with the game after playing for the total duration of what all the videos combined would amount to anyway.

We are seeing loads of "first couple of games" videos and nothing else. Sure, there are tons of videos out there, but they are all of the same ilk; dudes recording footage of their first exposure to the game for the most part. We have been allowed to see loads of "first play" samples and little else. I don't care how good/bad the players being recorded are, it is essentially a very similar sample every time; that of folk who have wired up capture equipment and played a game or two. This gets lost in all the discussion.

Now, if the hours upon hours of footage now out there was by the same player(s) playing every time, then you would be able to see how play develops and changes over time, as the user gets further exposure and time with the game. I haven't even touched on how the samples offered are always using only 2 of 5 teams available in the code, or how they are all in Exhibition Mode. I haven't touched on how "direct capture" is utterly misleading. We all know fine well that even that IGN 60 fps video is NOT how the game will actually look running on your own hardware and your own TV processing the image. It will look better once you are running it the actual game through your own hardware.

I know many will cling to the number of hours footage we have; that it is 1080/4K/60 fps or whatever; we still don't have all the information.

You have your answer here...so, wait and play PEs 2018. You'll see a lot of change...(core animations, mainly)

This is a dejavu. How many times during the years we have been told that since we didn't play the game we had to wait to give feedback, then around demo release the issues were still present and too late to fix?

I mean it's quite clear looking at those matches against AI even at Superstar level that the AI is not aggressive enough, doesn't cover space, leaves huge gaps and tends to sit down waiting for you to reach their penalty area.

I can see a lot of change, year after year... (2014,2015,2016,2017...) feedback is working...(step by step)

The atmosphere part still hasn't improved. No real bench players, no real coach, no warm up players, substitution cutscenses are trash with no announcer, a lot of things should be in realtime like substitutes, throw ins, fouls and goal kicks. Also players reactions to aggressive fouls are nonexistent, especially when it's a red card, also those should be in realtime. Get rid of black screens.

Crowd reactions are the same as last year it seems too. There should be reaction sounds when there is a counter attack, beautiful long shots, near the box, home and away advantage, dribbling a player or two, booing sounds, last minute whistles, etc. So many things missing. Also those things should sound natural not forced and poorly edited. The game feels dead when watching those videos tbh.

You are confusing "sliding tackle" with "tackle". Ever after pes 5 tackling has been ridicolous, you keep r1 press and go against the opponest and you steal the ball, no whatsoever skill or timing required. And on the "sliding tackle" issues don't let me start, pes has always been a sliding tackle fest where you could still a millon ball that way, very unrealistic. Probably the one and only aspect where fifa got it right.

I understand young people like you like to play this arcade games, if you haven't play ISS back i the days you probably don't know how good the gameplay was back then.

I played ISS 1, 2 and PES 6, thank you.

And no, R1 and X does not result in stealing the Ball every time. Again, nostalgia over nine thousand and too much criticism.

i agree i want real time stuff, it's almost 2020 for gods sake....
i'm tired of seeing 3d grass in replays and then you go back to real time and you see none. Look at NBA 2K it's atmosphere is great compared to PES. This is development from money generated by just one league. Yet 2K still finds money to make it happen. Konami sucked up so much money in PES 5 days without any of this development, probably why today Konami just won't (but can) spend more on this type of development....which is BS. (for all none North Americans BS is Bull Shit)

After seeing Matt10's PES3 streams I was feeling nostalgic and fired up PES5. Obviously it has aged, but it is still fun to play, and the amount of fouls you get is something severely lacking in 2017 that I hope they fix for 2018. Played two games and had 10 fouls in the first and 6 in the second. Just the aggressiveness of the AI, even on 3 star, led to the realistic little fouls you see in any real life game of football.
Hopefully the new shielding system will lead to more fouls when you have players tight up behind you.

yes, and should. When players come together that's when fouls (what PES today forgot to order) happen. Shielding looks fantastic and i hope it's forced on the players some how. Maybe making the AI defending actually defend might help..
