PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

as a person who often like pes 2017 (first time I am often satisfied since 2011) ...I think pes 2017 need this improvements much than other things:

gameplay
1. certainly need a pass support level between 0 and 1 to be default
2. an harder and more manually system to take the ball from opponent. now usually keeping X and [] and R1 (without any switching) make often the best result !! that shouldn't be the case ...
3. an harder dribbling system in low speed (and ball act independent from player's foot instead of sticking on that)
(2 and 3 will neutralize each other and bring the balance on ... the balance often is there now too, but it's not in the natural way now)
4. make it harder to do a accurate cross (I think heading is balanced but cross accuracy is overpower)
5. decrease shot power and increase shot error a little
6. make weak foot actually weaker than now

visual

1. better animation transition and softer connection between two animation
2. better turf from gameplay camera (color and texture). I think Rio stadium and Monumental stadium have better turf than others ... but not good enough yet.
3. better lighting

I wanted to mention the big shorts too, but it seems solved in the pes 2018 teaser already.

of course there are many other thing that can get better, but these are most important flaws IMO :)

So can we expect any gameplay footage tonight, or is it tomorrow?
Rumour has it that it'll just be the full version of the trailer that's already been released (so all of those black-screen cuts won't be present).

EDIT 1: Not just a rumour... Confirmed!

EDIT 2: Adam says gameplay footage will be there too. Twitter!

Had a bit of a revival with PES of late. It's undeniably riddled with issues but I have been enjoying it since dropping to -2 speed and going back to manual.

As a whole, the game needs refining. Issues with tackling, jarring movements and awkward animations have plagued the series for too long. The trailer will hopefully show us if this has been addressed.

Outside of the usual complaints (catch up) and the above, the following need to be addressed for me to truly enjoy PES again.

  • Keepers - Why do they still look so terrible? I have a feeling they're still going to have awful looking animations based on that odd save in the teaser. They're not performing too badly now but the way they look ruins goals for me. The fact they NEVER come out during one on ones is infuriating, too.
  • Atmosphere and visual presentation - I don't care about menus etc but the gameplay visuals need a step up. Faces etc look great up close but when moving from FIFA back to PES it's like PS4 to PS3 visually. Body shapes etc are better, yes but the overall visuals in FIFA this year are stunning, as are the atmospheres. Team chants simply cannot be licensed, so there's no excuse for not adding these for the big teams. Things like that amke a huge difference for me. When I score on FIFA and the crowd at OT are buzzing and singing genuine united songs, it's great. MORE STADIA.
  • Ball physics - they're fairly terrible. Long passes look great imo, everything else is pretty dire. Shooting needs FAR more vairation. It's better on manual but still nowhere near the level it needs to be.
  • Passing assistance - go with a solution like FIFAs, assisted, semi and manual. Make sure the Semi is acually semi and not some horribly assisted PA1 style abomination.
  • Team Styles - The ones that are there are great, but once learnt make the game dull. There needs to be a load of generic ones which keep the game fresh.
If they address the above I'd be really happy with the game. I certainly won't get my hopes up, though.

exactly !!
there is a clear need to have better (and more) animation for keepers.
even when GK concede a goal, a nice react animation will make the goal's feel real and nice ...
I think they don't motion capture even a single diving animation ! only made them by estimate.

First you create a new Thread on my behalf, using my name.
Now this. What do you have against me?!

hahahaha ;)
Ha, I just never, ever believe Konami are going to do something right. Call me a cynic, or call me someone who's been hurt long enough to know never to get my hopes up...

I know. Been there.
But I've actually noticed a pattern over the past 2 years, where I find myself agreeing with some of the decisions Konami has been taking. And this year is definetely the biggest step forward.

I can easily devide WE/PES in 3 eras:
1990+ all the way until 2007 (PES 2008).
2007 until 2015 (PES 2016).
PES 2017 until..... who knows.

This is how I really hope CPU shooting is in PES2018.

Sorry about where the clip came from but it is the best way to explain it. If shooting had more variety and the CPU kicked shots high and wide sometimes depending on position, player, best foot, hair length, etc... then the game will be far better.

Looks good but then faces haven't been a problem for a while. Let's see how it looks in a gameplay cam.

Konami have always mastered player appearances. From body models, to faces, even boots.
I remember back in the Playstation One days, where Ronaldo would wear blue boots and Roberto Carlos white ones, Zidane would rock the black with red stripes one, Beckham would wear white ones as well. It was so exciting. 90% of the players just used black, but when you passed the ball to one of these players with odd-colored boots you knew it was something special.

Lord! I swear man, good ol' days.

partnership with Atlético Madrid maybe?
that's incredible scanning! look at the hair, that's another level.

looks amazing i'd say, better than FIFA. Don't forget details in game can only be turned up so high to maintain good frame rates. Player camera is the most demanding on hardware, PES is smooth running above 30fps, FIFA is choppy running below 30fps. I'd rather have smooth game-play than extra in game facial details. we will see great in game details on PS5.

yes, motion capture goalies, the slow motion matrix diving is old now.

Looks absolutely phenomenal, and some of the comparison images people are putting up on Twitter are INSANE.

But as others have said, the faces are always great. If the AI still doesn't misplace passes and every shot is still a perfect hit, it's all for nothing.

Christ, I hope they add another level of depth to the gameplay this year, to go along with these graphics.
