PC PES 2014 discussion thread

I think I am set. Think I managed to squeeze the best from PES 2014. A wonderful game when it plays right. :WORSHIP:

I am playing:

- 1.06 patch, 15 mins, Professional, 0 speed, 1 bar passing, Manual shooting (working really well in 1.06) and Advanced throughball;
- Stat adjusts (to all players, except goalkeepers):
  • Defensive prowess +10
  • Speed -10
  • Explosive power -10
  • Lofted pass -5
- Some personal tactics adjusts (klashman's tactics should do fine);
- Similar to TV broadcast camera, personalised using McSonix tool (Pitch Side: 6,4,25).

Ok, so I played a bit more now with your settings and what strikes me are the following:
  1. My AI defenders will win the ball from the opponent much more often and I hardly concede any goals anymore
  2. My opponents does not win the ball from me as often

the first one I can understand, as I assume upping Defensive prowess simply makes every player better at defending, however this does not seem to affect the AI's ability to defend against me?

It affects, but maybe AI logic overrides it somehow to the extent that you can barely see it. Depending of the difficulty leven or something. I don't know. It you would up it by bigger number, let's say by 40, you would definitely see the improvement in AI defence, so I am sure it has an effect.

However, as I said, on 1.07 you don't really need to up defensive prowess anymore.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I haven't had a chance to try 1.07 yet, but will as soon as I get a chance to. Even though I have legitimately bought the game on DVD I've never managed to run it for reasons unknown, hence I have to wait for a cracked copy :PIRATE: Oh the irony of it all...

Add Yair 1.06 patch and I think it's the best PES in a long time. I'm not a fan of gameplay patches but Yair's 1.06 one really fix a lot of issues.

its now a week since the DLC got released for consoles, and still no sign of it for PC, what the fuck are Konami playing at? Ridiculous.

It is simple, they try to force us go back to fifa. Yesterday i make a new image and it seems is gonna really happen...

pes_2014_update_pc_tomorow__by_animalbear-d796cwq.png

I'm going to be like this after one more week of wait
I don´t believe on chatbox from pes-patch website, but someone tell us next week again.

It was last Friday, now today Friday no release and now next friday?
It seems a big trolland upthere by someone.
After they release PES 2014 they promise a lot of things never KONAMI get a chance to do it.
Today we can able to have, rain, snow, Copa América, All FIFA World Cups from the past, a big editor for stadiums, a perfect editor for teams and infinite logos.
All of this extras was spoken by trolland people of FIFA or some PES Fanboy's?

PES 2015 will be the same story if they gonna do this again.

I notice Adam Bhatti hasn't been around on twitter since Feb 22nd ... I wonder if hes been employed to deliver it to each PC customer via his works van? Maybe that's the delay :)

Official PES twitter response to PC questions:

To me official PES is just a employee 3rd party on contract with twitter access that gets about as much info as the public.

:TUMBLE: Adam? Yes it is. :LIE: KONAMI is responsible for the DLC, not him.
The only real true for a release DLC, must be "on" in your game menu.
It is "off"? Not released yet.

Update: For real guys, what the fuck is a DP4?
Some alien secrect code? For Real?

this is becoming more than ridiculous, like a hard core soap opera.

professionalism is far beyond any seroius company. official pes staff don't know when is DLC. like whatching a comedy channel.

it seems everything went down after seabass left...

No, it was like this in the seabass era too.

See this latest Bhatti posting (he certainly plays a part mate): https://twitter.com/Adam_Bhatti/status/441972353057452032

I know adam isnt direct responsible on delivery though it was a joke ... works van delivery ... surely it was clear.

I dont use DLC download in game as I dont play online, I like to wait and grab external due to patches and mods comparability testing. Also we know if its switched on an no download occurs its not available, that why people go to official places to know "when" .. in this case with crappy reply results :) .

I just finished my first ML season with patch 1.07 and here are my thoughts.

At the beginning every match was different, the AI made some mistakes that I took advantage of and I won my first few games comfortably, with one exception which was a 2-2 draw at home vs Manchester City. I am using Cardiff and I noticed that my whole squad was super hyped by the results as they were ultra red (heart) every single player in my squad. I downsized my squad considerably pre-season and didn't buy any new players and decided to set up some form of squad rotation. The motivation of the squad made sure that I was second in the league behind City at the halfway point. I had also won all my cup matches mostly using my "second team" in that competition. At this point, things started to change considerably. Every match became an outright struggle even though my players were in good shape both heart and form. Every match turned into a massive pressure fest from the opponents but I continued to be effective on counter and usually won comfortably. One major point that I noticed was that the midfield pressure became so intense that any sort of passing in the midfield region was more or less out of the question. If I wanted to keep the ball, I had to pass between my defenders so I adjusted my strategy accordingly. I now noticed that I could tell from the beginning of an AI attack if they were going to score. The usual signs are when your players gets slowed down even if you sprint, your tackles ends up just tackling the ball straight to another opponent, central defenders won't even try to mark and don't want to jump to intercept high balls (among others).

Here the AI started to instantly retaliate with these kinds of goals whenever I scored, and if they scored first they parked the bus. There was little or no difference left between Manchester United, Chelsea or Crystal Palace in terms of team style or player individuality. My players all look like they got 65-70 Explosive Power and Mertesacker is acting like he has 95. I adjusted my strategies further, as counter attack didn't seem effective anymore as my players were slower, clumsier and weaker than any opponent in all duels. So I started playing extremely patiently from behind and launched "blitz-attacks" somewhat in the spirit of Brazil of the 90's. I kept on scoring 2-3 and even 4 goals per match, missing several clear cut chances on top. I won most matches by one goal and drew 3 more matches. I won the league and the cup but it wasn't really fun the last half of the season as there was little resembling football left in the matches. The Cup Final was the weirdest match of them all, playing against Hull City and they were either on serious horse steroids or were Barcelona in disguise. Huddlestone were Maradona and Usain Bolt in one, scoring three insane solo raids while keeping his feet through several sliding tackles where some of them were smack in his legs and should've sent him to the hospital. I came back from 0-3 and won the match 4-3 in extra time, strangely enough receiving two penalties in the process. I scored on both, thank God. Game speed was also noticeably faster from mid-season but I got used to it but I would prefer it to accept my decision to play on -1.

So to summarize, I understand the concept of dynamic difficulty but somewhere along the line PES has completely tweaked that concept into something very, very weird as they forget that variable difficulty depending on opponent teams somewhere along the line. This problem is not stand-alone for PES2014 but the PES franchise in general. I don't think PES or Konami is the only series suffering from this by the way.

It was challenging, and I'm a much better PES player after this season. I had to rework my strategy and change formation during the season, which is not entirely bad. The major problem is that every match became a struggle and every opponent felt much faster, more technical and more motivated than my players which became an annoyance. It takes away from strategy and depth of the game when you can't look at the opponents team and use their slow sideback, or weak midfielder to your advantage when their slowest and weakest player is still faster and stronger than yours regardless of abilities.

This is simply an arcade game, nothing more. Player statistics and individuality is something that only affect the human players in the long run, the AI seems to more or less ignore them if need be. The game turns from a decent quasi-simulation to pure arcade to make sure you're challenged. It ignores to a large degree speed setting, difficulty setting and, as mentioned, player individuality to achieve this at any cost. It even sacrifices any resemblance to football in order to achieve a sort of challenge for the player. In my humble opinion it looks like they didn't even try to make a challenging AI but relied purely on uneven advantages to achieve this.

Do You flex the training points and vary the training from time to time?
I have found that it has a bearing when results start to slide.

I have three routines that I rotate on a monthly basis but I suspect that it's mainly superstition that it actually works. In the end it should turn out identical to having all levels the same all season. My results were fairly even all season, I started to concede more goals but I kept scoring and I estimate that 90% of the goals I conceded was "scripted" as we say. Most of the goals I conceded against Top 4-5 teams didn't feel scripted as I made some serious defensive errors from time to time.

On the bright side, I had in total 7-8 penalties, none against, received a fair amount of FK's and didn't see more than a few keeper blunders. I don't count all near post goals as direct blunders, but there was some weak positioning going on but not much.

In the end, the thing that annoys me is that the midfield pressure becomes too much for realism and constant over 90-120 minutes. It removes a large part of the pitch which force me (the players) to resort to unrealistic football to overcome the unrealistic opponents.

Personally, I'd prefer the game to respect my speed and difficulty settings and I'd pick an even weaker team if things became too easy. Superstar should be more or less identical at the start of the season and the end of the season regardless of how your results are. Same with speed setting. You can feel the game tweaking gradually, and if it can't stop you with sensible means it doesn't seem to have a sensible limit to how far it can go. Towards the end it was challenging to string three passes together at the back, as the AI strikers were so fast at moving that they were upon my players almost before I could control the incoming passes.

Forgot to add;
I played on Superstar, 15 minute matches and -1 speed setting. Home made OF, no 3rd party additions and default team count.

I am going to try a new ML season on XBOX360 at Professional now with nearly identical OF. I probably should go with Cardiff to compare but I think I need a change to keep it interesting. I got Cardiff with a "/random 20" counting from the top of PL table and I'll do the same now, re-rolling if I get 4 or less.

PS. I also forgot to mention that my players with high 70's and more stamina didn't seem to have problems playing full 90 minutes. Before the patch a player with 90 was knackered at 65 minutes, so there's a huge change here. I'm sure everyone has noticed it by now though.

EDIT: No sooner than having said that I didn't think the keepers were especially bad, I experience no less than four goals going in from nearly dead angle at the near post. The keeper just sits down and the ball goes nearly through him. Weird. I took Superleeds' advice and changed my training further and it seemed to help somewhat. I also tuned down my own team's frontline pressure and it seemed to calm the CPU somewhat as well.

EDIT2: I couldn't be arsed to hook up the XBOX360 so I started another ML from scratch on PC with a new team. This time I'm playing with Spurs and the game actually seems harder despite the fact that Spurs is a stronger team than Cardiff. My players doesn't get much heart boost from wins, opponents harass me like there's no tomorrow and Lloris makes one howler after another. I'm currently ironing out 1 goal wins 2-1, 3-2 and 1-0. Still playing with the same settings as before but with a new formation, 4-4-2 as opposed to 4-2-3-1 with Cardiff. It seems to me that the difficulty in this game is backwards. I'd think that it was logical that using a better team would make things a bit easier but not in PES apparently. Crystal Palace simply played me off the field just now, although I got a lucky 3-2 win after two goals in injury time, including a weird penalty situation. Since my player's heart level is around yellow and green, they feel mostly like they're running in tar while it feels like every single opponent has ultra red heart level as they are extremely agile, aware and confident on the ball. I feel like Greece during Euro 2004 at best even against bottom sides. Adebayor is a beast for me though, seriously overrated in this game. ML does not feel like PES2014 exhibition match at all, and it's exclusively a bad thing. Too many poorly implemented RPG-ish background effects and too little sensible AI tactics going on. AI's only approach is to apply massive pressure for 90 minutes and they never seem to tire even the slightest. There's hardly any difference between playing against Barcelona or Hull except the kit colours and that the better teams' strikers score proper goals rather than massive GK howlers.

After roughly 1.5 ML season with patch 1.07 I've come to the conclusion of retiring the game for a while. It's somewhat fun and much better than its been in years but it's also very, very arcade-ish as already mentioned. What I dislike about this game all boils down to what I disliked with PES2013, PES2012, PES2011 and so on which is the stupidity of competition modes. It is the same issues that I have with games like FIFA as well, so it's not a "goodbye" post in any way. There are some "new" annoyances as well, such as my own players getting in the way quite often, crashing into the player in possession making me lose the ball. AI does not seem affected by inertia in the slightest, I never really noticed that in exhibition though so might be an added competition "AI cheat". Heart feature seems to boost too many stats. In my opinion it should only boost/nerf accuracy and tenacity and not by very much. There's simply too much "background stuff" directly affecting the matches and it's largely in a negative way. For example, if the AI thinks you are performing too well it stops all but the most basic team movement for your team - no more initiatives and runs from your teammates on their own. The AI should consider the human player's team strength on paper and recent results when picking a match plan. Not scrap football in favor of a fake sense of challenge and it feels a bit coincidental when you succeed. Goal variety is very good though, I've scored a lot of really nice and some unexpected goals but I've also missed some insane chances like open goal which feels like AI putting the foot down on the goal tally to be spiteful. I didn't lose a single match though, but it didn't look much like football towards the end either. It was comparable to WC finals on Microprose Soccer with better graphics and animations (for those who remember that insane tackle-fest).

Lesson nº1 - A company must release a decent game for our consumer.
Lesson nº2 - A Consumer have the rights to reclaim the problems and bugs of the game.
Lesson nº3 - A dev. or 3rd person worker must tell the true to the fans and not making a big troll land as been to much for all the consumers.

Do you see what happen to GTA V for PC?
Each country, in each store they call some rumours about a releasing date, if the real company "RockstarGames" still not give any answer to the consumers.
If they continue to do that, this fans go straight away to FIFA playing EA Sports Games.
Please KONAMI take off the presure and mind games.

We must stop doing that or someone will jump to the window, or give a shot with a gun in a few seconds.
Internet this days is a completly disease.

I am more impressed by the fact you have given this game so much chance. I haven't touched it since November. Tried it out recently with 1.07 patch, could beat one game (1 GAME!!!), before deleting it and throwing the case with game into bin. I don't blame KONAMI, but PES Team is shitting on loyal fans in their faces and don't realise how much shit they have promised this year and not delivered at all in the end!!!!!!!!!!. I hope the whole of PES team gets fired. I really do. If that franchise is to have some sort of future, get rid of morons responsible for it now. Start from scratch. Even if it takes few years, come back with style (NBA live 14 despite it flaws, is good example of people giving it hopes).

Serious here...

Tried it out recently with 1.07 patch, could beat one game (1 GAME!!!), before deleting it and throwing the case with game into bin.

With attention span you need Fifa :) (Joke).

Well have you tried some AI mods? Have you set your tactics? Did you try stepping down to different difficulty settings to find a sweet spot?

I have been using Aired (think thats the name) exe edit (1.06) combined with the other ai mod (forgot name but uses exe with ball speed slider etc) and I have AI running with Barca and I have copied the real life gamestyle pretty well now. Have set things to "professional" game speed -1 and im loving it in a league career, I spend a combination of play all/lock to a player and manager mode in CL as a way to keep things interesting.

I then had the same game (using heart in career) and played the same game again (didnt save the last quit half way through) under 1.07 only, same game speed etc same tactics and barca were awful, far too much keeping the ball, slow to make the pass, defence not getting back right, and the ricochet of the ball giving back to striker fun, we were down 2-0 in 8 mins so I feel Ai mods need less game difficultly and 1.07 requires something a little higher.

With AI mod I played the same no one scored (30 min halves) for over 50 mins, we got one goal 53rd and then again 85th minute, plenty of attacks on us and saves/miss overall.

Its difficult to get that balance and really depends on your play style and thinking if AI mods are simply a fix for konami's failings, but to be honest I never experienced anything different with Fifa, everything never stays vanilla for long.

I hope the whole of PES team gets fired. I really do. If that franchise is to have some sort of future, get rid of morons responsible for it now.

Yep that will help for release time :CONFUSE:
