PC PES 2014 discussion thread

Re: PES 2014 discussion thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

Sounds like it's a case of brilliant on the pitch, but rather... meh... off the pitch. Note to Konami: You do not need heaps of licences to make ML more like Fifa's CM. Repeat: You. Do. Not. Need. Heaps. Of. Licences! I mean, there's tons of unlicenced stuff in PES anyway - the modders always take care of that - so why not pack your game with content, licenced or not? EA do not hold a monopoly over a realistic football world and by the sounds of it, it's this aspect that is still holding PES back from being the best overall football game package.

I haven't played the game yet (I'm holding fire to see some reviews and preferably to play the demo for myself), but it sounds as though the football itself is amazing, but that's not really enough for me - I need depth off the pitch as well - and I'm sure there are thousands of gamers who feel that way.

Just do it, Konami! Next year, don't just 'revamp' ML. Chuck it out. That's right, I said chuck it out; get rid of it; start (gasp) from scratch! Make an entire new game mode whose sole purpose in life is to knock Fifa's CM off its perch. I know that might upset some PES fans, but ML's very format is dated and in dire need of change. Pack your game with content, Konami - licenced or not (the community will take care of that; even the consoles can use Option Files) - and many people will never look at Fifa again. For me, the second the PC version of Fifa gets Ignite, then I'll be playing Fifa once again (the PC modders always find a way to make the gameplay what it should be) - unless the current situation with PES off the pitch changes and changes a lot. As that review said, Konami's 'nostalgia' is hurting the game's progress.

I partially agree with this. I don't think it ever hurts to try and get more licenses and as the people negotiating for licenses would have almost nothing to do with the actual game design there's no reason they should change their priorities.

I do believe, however, that Konami is seriously underplaying their game 'world'. The player id system is so good, but yet there is rarely a player with less than 50-60 in most stats, which means there could easily be another lower level of teams and players to start from. This could all be fake teams for all I care. But we could have multiple leagues with lower divisions in each and just that would make a larger world to inhabit which would feel better. I'd love at the lowest level to get excited when I manage to sign a winger with pace of 60!. Having a more complete structure would straight away make a career mode more fulfilling, the only downside would be the extra time required to simulate the rest of the world that you aren't directly involved in. However, modern PC's can handle this with ease and this is surely the last year of being tied to the current-gen systems, so we could afford this overhead.

For me, there are many things they could add to a career mode which would be 'interesting' but the biggest win would just adding more level depth to the 'bottom' of the game.

The other thing I would love, although it's quite difficult to get right, is to actually have youth players being 'new' players. The 'other' game was 'okay' for this the last time I played it (a couple of years ago). However I still saw a lot of similar youth players appearing and the lack of players feeling very different anyway meant it felt watered down. Football Manager took a fair few years to actually get their 'newgen' system right. But if we actually had random new players appearing, I would adore it.

The only downside to all of this however, is that a large portion of people don't even player football games in single player anymore, as younger players (I'm not one of those!) are primarily about online competition. So improving the aspects of the game that will positively influence your biggest customer base will always be the highest priority. Of course if they made the career mode capable of being multiplayer. That could possibly bring the two interests back together :)

Re: PES 2014 discussion thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

Same here.

+1. Might be a little late for tomorrow though I'm afraid gents, unless they've already shipped it and just updating the details now?

Also, who's up for a Evo-Web online league this year? I can't see the CPU being substantial enough opposition for more than a week. Alternatively, 11v11? :PIRATE:

Re: PES 2014 discussion thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

My order at ShopTo now shows as an order (not a pre-order).

Looks like it changed status at

18/09/2013 14:02:54

Although the picture of my parcel is from 15:22 yesterday (17/09).

So looks like I'm good for either tomorrow or Friday :)

Re: PES 2014 discussion thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

Had my order and shipment confirmed by shopto as well. I think it depends on the last postage collection time. If they post it this evening and it's collected afterwards then hopefully we'll get it tomorrow by 1st class post.

Re: PES 2014 discussion thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

It seems I checked at the right moment (and only the second time I checked today, honest). A minute after my post they sent my dispatch confirmation. Email says:-

You should receive your order in time for the release date, please keep this email until your order arrives. We dispatch orders every working day up until 5.20pm
