PES 2014 Discussion Thread

I think the thing that bothers me the most is the shooting and heading.
I have'nt managed a single header till now. When I cross the striker just chests it and volleys it. I have seen these kind of problems in older games....shame it happens now....seems like yet another bug left in the code..

Also the shooting just seems so strange...I can't get a feel for it.....it just seems very weird....when I score I'm not even sure how it happened...
It seems a bit too floaty....the shooting in FIFA is far better....but the passing on PES is still better.

YouTube - Some PES 2014 goals

Oh please... YOU haven't scored a header yet, so it MUST be "yet another bug left in the code"? Despite the fact that loads of other people are saying they've scored tons of headers, and that the heading in PES 2014 is the best ever, much more subtle and realistic than the bad old days of "spam header button and hope for the best"... no, must be a bug in the code. Why else would YOU not have been able to score a header yet?

In this case you have to understand that there is actually a problem with heading if you play with manual settings. If you play standard settings (like i do) there is no problem at all. I scored a lot of headers already. But if you play with manual settings there is indeed a bug and it is confirmed from a lot of users. I tried it by myself and it is true.

Overall i think you're a right and not every fault is caused by the game.

I strongly go along with the idea that one decent patch and this will be the greatest football game ever

I think you're right. It's already close now. But i'm afraid they go the arcade way with a patch after all the negative voices.

Chipped goals have been discussed here already. Everybody is waiting for a patch.

As for the complains and other stuff I read here... PLEASE, LEARN THE FUCKING GAME. There, I said it and I´m happy now. Sorry for being so harsh, but come on!!! Do you guys even try?

Been playing on Superstar with a cautious gameplay style. Started Master League with Estoril, a 74 rating portuguese team. First oficial match was against Sporting, rated at 84 or something. It´s amazing how they started the match, lots of pressure and urgency in scoring a goal. I changed imediatly to an all defending style, and could hold them in the first half. When I realized I was holding possession, but only in my midfield, I could have much time with the ball in the oposing half. But boy, when I could finally make a through pass, it felt great, even it didn´t get a goal chance. Game definitly has moments, where you dominate, then are dominated, changes of pace, etc.

People complain about lack of freedom, while I think this has more freedom then ever. I can make first time passing when I really need it, I can trick midfielders with unexpected pace burst and change of directions, even on crouded areas, but it´s hard to get to the final third and through, just like in real life. At the end, match feels really normal and real, despite some anoying things here and there. For me, no gamebreakers, but still need correction.

I´ll say it again, best soccer game ever! Period!

Bought FIFA, feel dirty and still unsatisfied.

Ultimate team is not as good as MLO.

The game play is worse. Couldn't tell you offline which is better as I get bored very quickly against the repetitive nature of playing the CPU on both games.

But I can get an online match with manual controls and against people who want to play football with zero lag on the ps3.

It's a sad state of affairs, but online being so fucked up, is an issue I just can't get around and for the first time in years has driven me away from the game for now.

Great comments from Pete U and all others who are prepared to give the game time and patience. It really is the best pes that i've played since the pes5, 6 & its all about learning to play a different way as others have said. I've scored a few headers but i find the defender is nearly always first to the ball and will clear it when it's crossed into the box - even on Regular difficulty - guess i've got to keep at it & tinker with my tactics. Also i don't understand who say the game doesn't flow or isn't as smooth as they'd like - i've found it to be the opposite.

I agree with what you are saying. It would be wise of KONAMI to properly explain the basics. Aside from all the bugs, exploits, awareness issues etc I think defending should be a little bit easier or the system should be improved on in a patch, Some matches get ruined because the attacker just runs through everyone, you know those out of no where frustration.

Also when a player and another player run for the ball you think you can do a tackle, but instead he will shoot the ball. The moment you realize this you want to cancel it, it doesn't work, so the player decides to shoot the ball. I have run on goal thinking I would pass the ball to another player, but instead he did a tackle. FIFA has shown that it is possible and it would make the game much less frustrating.

Adam tweeted earlier that it would only be a patch to fix issues as game play deosnt need an upgrade. He had been asked if the game play would be patched.

Good news to a lot on here including me.

they should not change the gameplay ....really good to read.

Played a full season in league mode as Valencia/superstar/PS3 and not had one penalty or injury. Anybody else had experience of this? At least every game was a sellout.

Fantastic game, gameplay is a joy. Just want to ask the guys if they are having the same experience as me with the heading. I'm not complaining, it's just that everytime I've tried a downward header I've managed to score even if it's at the keeper or a defender is on the line with him, I'm not dissing the keepers for me they are great this year. The keeper never seems to touch the ball if it's a downward header.
Either I'm superb in the air or I'm very lucky.

It funny how we used to call FIFA games arcadey and PES games realistic, real simulation. now suddenly PES 2013, PES 2012, PES 2011, PES 2009, PES 2010 ... have all become arcadey games.

Now I wonder if Konami comes and tell us that the game is slow because PS3/XBOX360 can't handle properly Fox Engine, now here is PS4/XBOX ONE which can render well the game, what will people view PES 2014 when PES 2015 comes on next gen, I sure down the road, the same people will call it arcadey.

Complaining about a defender who can't get a ball which is just close to him in split second doesn't involve through ball. nowadays if anyone want to criticize the moaners they jump on "oh those are through ball spammers "... Buttom line the game is laggy, if its laggy in the menu with just a cursor and some basic graphics, what do you think it will perform in the gameplay where it has to render the stadium, the players, the AI, all sort of thing? We are forgiving Konami too much that we are ready to accept broken as normal then when normal comes we will be the one to ask back broken again.

BTW I'm enjoying PES 2014 in my own way, I just can't settle for what seems unfinished.

Actually I believe this year´s defending is pretty basic. I´ve been using only the pressure button (X in my case). I never, never go in rush. First, when an atacking player has the ball in my half, I hold X until my closest player positions him self and follows him. That way, he covers passing and shooting lines, and he also keeps some distance so he never gets caught by a fast feint. Then, and only sometimes depending on momentum, I tap the sprint button, to try to get the ball, but always carefull about momentum, else I can easily get caught.

It works wonders and never feels cheap, cause it´s always harder against technical players, but sure is simple and effective.

OK, I take that back then. I play full manual passing but I've never liked full manual shooting (I know that's a slightly controversial view with some people) so I've not noticed this.

This annoys me a lot. I went through my Fiorentina squad before I began the league and set most of the players to injury resistance 1, just so I'd see some actual injuries unlike last year. But no one ever bloody fouls them (according to the referee at least...) so no one ever gets injured!

Had a game the other day against Inter, who had all the choppers in the team, like Walter Samuel, Chivu etc. At the end of a 30-minute game, Inter had committed 0 fouls. That side of the game is pathetic.

Sorry but I´m on PC and game does get laggy in menus, but on the pitch, it really flows. I think it´s just a matter of menu optimization. They worked harder on gameplay, and forgot about gamemodes, career features and navigation menus.

This is very very unfinished referee decisions for sure. I realized when my player gets tackled and sudenly the spectators whistle and "boooo", wich means they realize there should have been a foul. So why doesn´t the referee sees it too? :FAIL:

Also, when you've got accumulated fatigue on, is it just me or do goalies tire FASTER than all the other players? To the point where you can't play a goalie more than five games in a row, while everyone else is fresh as a daisy? If so, this is possibly the single weirdest and stupidest thing I've ever seen in PES.

Confirmed: into second year as Utrecht ML not a single injury or penalty, and, frankly, hardly any fouls.

Yeah this seems to be a flaw. There's almost no aggression, when you play it feels very passive. But I'm sure that tactics and some tinkering will fix this.

Seems like I'm the daddy at downward headers, just bagged four in one game as I demolished Schalke 5-0 as Bayern on Superstar. I'm getting to grips with all the tactics sliders and getting a much better game out of this now.

And I'm even winning a lot of free kicks. The COM had two yellow cards in one game. Unheard of.

That's my number one complaint about the game, but on Superstar it's much, much better. The COM properly presses you and still plays the ball around if you defend patiently. I'm only playing friendlies though and it's tough, so I really have no idea how ramped up Superstar will be in ML.....

As I asked on the last page do you not find it a bit dodgy that every downward header is a goal? Even if it's straight at the keeper.

I dont need to be told to go and play and learn the fucking game, stop using that as an excuse. Theres something missing from the gameplay, ball physics or whatever, theres something not right. It has nothing to do about learning a 'deep' game or any such bollocks.

Stop excusing things that are wrong with the game by papering over the cracks with the same wheeled out excuses.

Face facts theres parts of the game that are good, but a lot thats not right.

Just finished another 30 minute game, this time v Atalanta, who were behind from the ninth minute but also, somehow, managed to get through the entire match without committing a single foul. Of course, in actual fact they hacked the shit out of me for most of the game. But nothing was given - not one foul (not even the time that David Pizarro was actually propelled up into the air). In fact, they did get called for one foul - but that was where I dived and fooled the ref.

This lack of fouls is insane. Has anyone been pestering Bhatti about this? I presume they have.

You're not being very specific there. What exactly is it that you think is wrong with the game? Other than "ball physics or whatever".

I think we've all faced that particular fact, haven't we?
