"Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has revealed details of a free data update for PES 2011, which will be available from December 21st.

The download will be available for PlayStation(R)3, Xbox 360 and PC-DVD users, and adds a number of new items to the game. Twelve kits have been updated within the game, including those of the Ireland national team and some French club teams.
Similarly, ten new licensed boots styles from manufacturers such as adidas, Puma, Umbro and Mizuno have been added.

Further free DLC will be released for PES 2011 during the coming year."

Soooo? What is the surprise? I dont understand why they have to make a hype for a DLC if there is nothing special about it and its for free!

Well, technically Murphy didn't say there WAS a surprise ("could be a nice surprise"), he was more relying on the fact that there's always someone surprised.

You can be surprised for so many reasons, like you could be surprised that there wasn't really a surprise. Although if I was to split hairs, I don't think that would be a nice surprise.

But it'd be decent to at least act surprised so that Murphy could save his face, but in the modern world I guess there's no such thing as decency, there's only epic fails and all that. What a surprise.

Yes you are right about the surprise thing but still...again another week attempt from konami.

Another marketing catastrophe from Konami, building a hype round a couple of boots and kits. Sometimes they really are clueless.

I couldn't care less about faces or boots or other totally irrelevant crap as this game has issues far more important to fix.

What I am hoping is that they would fix the referee making completely crazy decisions, the control switching and offsides.

When cpu player tackles my player I lose control of the player and that basically is the reason I lose the ball. My player doesn't even fall down. I just lose control. This is even more fun when it happens during a tussle for the ball between cpu attacker and my defender. Defending as a whole is made a lot harder with shit like this and it feels artificial. Cpu makes a through ball and I try to clear it. I switch to the player that is closest to the ball (isn't that what is supposed to happen?). Well, what really happens is that instead of getting to control the right player I get to control the one no far from the ball but still far enough for the cpu player to go clean through to score. And as I tap the switch button to finally control to right player I've already lost the battle.

"Hey lets make the game harder by making the control switch a complete lottery so that the player can never guess what player is he going to be controling next!"

Offsides are a blast too. It's nice to see in a replay that my players made such a beautiful offside trap. Too bad I was the one attacking. After a corner being cleared out my player tend to hang around in the box just to make me wait for the cpu to come for the ball guns blazing and I can't pass the ball to anyone up front as they are all offside. I can't remember this happening to cpu, not once. Also my attackers usually run upfield with all their strength to make it offside in time when my player finally passes the ball.

I've had this game since it's release and played it quite a lot. Yet I've only encountered a few moments of that pure magic that made the early Pes -versions (3-6) so special (at least there still are some of those moments). On the other hand I've laughed my ass off basically at least once a game after yet another dubious moment the game makes me witness.

Even if this game is a lot better than the previous games with the new engine, it's still a long way from being a really good football game. Konami need to make a completely new engine for the next game. This one is broken. Or maybe this one is perfectly ok for the game but Konami are too lazy to actually make the game challenging without letting the cpu do these crappy things.

Maybe they will introduce a new more challengin Pes next year by giving the cpu a couple of more players and reducing mine.

why the fvck do they have to release boots and shirts and tag them as dlc. all these are made better by modders.

they should release a 'real' dlc which improves ones gaming experience.

All the "engine this engine that" talk is very overrated. We are probably talking a gameplay engine here, and I must say couple of things.

Even though I know absolutely nothing about these things - and I'm the first to admit it - I'd say that there will be no such things as "new engines" for PES. When there's new hardware around (meaning new xplayboxstations), then someone naturally has to write something from scratch. Or maybe not, what do I know?

Konami will always use an own gameplay engine and their particular engine is something that is constantly evolving. On PC, it may date from the first day they started to develop PES for the platform in question. However it doesn't mean the code as it is now has anything left remaining from PES4 era.

One could actually say it'd be bloody stupid and complete waste of time to write a gameplay engine from scratch, because the end result will be the same anyway.

So to say things like "PES' engine is broken" is just trolling. It's not strictly true; some of gameplay aspects may be broken, but the engine is very much alive and well and the aspects that are broken can be fixed. Of course, the fixes could then break some other aspects but that's life. But coding anything from scratch is never a solution. Especially for a game that comes out every year.

Hopefully there is someone here who has actually studied these things. I'd very much like to know if I'm even half-right. :)

EDIT. And to avoid any confusion, no, PES 2011 didn't have a new gameplay engine.

You're splitting hairs. If PES has had basically the same feel since Pes 2008 (the first game with completely new graphics engine) it is ok for me to say there is something fundamentally wrong with the engine they use. Or the real reason is that Konami are too lazy to make the game free of all these idiotic stuff that I wrote in my previous post. If the latter is true matters are even worse.

I bought the game. Played it for hours. Then wrote the things that need desperately to be fixed and you call me a troll. If it makes you happy then go on. For me the engine is a lot worse than the one they had when earlier in PES 3 to PES 6. And that was the time when PES was undeniably the best football game out there. I've read that even Seabass himself agree that the new engine wasn't the one they wanted it to be and that was a year or two ago and still nothing ground breaking has been revealed.

People keep mixing DLC's and patches in the same bag. How is 10 boots and some kits a weak attempt? On a DLC? i'd say it's a fair amount of content.

If Konami is clueless when doing that, so are any other companies releasing DLCs.

@ Savage: I never split hairs. Except when I do split hairs, but that's beside the point. Since you had a lot of valid points in your post, I sincerely admit that me branding you a troll was too harsh rhetoric so I apologize, hopefully I didn't offend you in any way.

But let's still just say that if one doesn't like the game as it is right now at all, one would have to wait couple of years at minimum to actually enjoy a PES game, there's no way around it. There's only so much WEP team can do in one 12 month period. Especially for the fact that we're talking about a multiplatform game here. So as I consider myself a realist I wouldn't go branding a WEP team lazy - even though I understand many may feel perfectly entitled to do that - they have worked their socks off when they've indeed had the resources to do so. What to many may seem slow progressing is just how it is with annual (multiplatform) sports titles. And always have been. It's shitty state of affairs but c'est la vie.

If I was to somehow steer this back to the actual topic, I do find it funny that certain people keep coming here or elsewhere basically wanting every patch to be a gameplay patch. One gameplay patch was everything we're going to get and quite frankly there's no point crying for some more. If one doesn't like PES2011 as it is now, one should get over it already and stop playing it. I don't particularly care for PES2011 right now myself, but even I know there couldn't be any patch in the world that would incredibly alter my opinion in any way. The devs must think the same now so they've already switched their focus for the next game. Let's face it, if they really thought about fixing PES2011 even on this very date (19-12-2010), I'd be very worried about what PES2012 would be.

dont know but i havent scored in 10 games on top player with barcelona hahaha i cant believe it too im laughing from anger im frustrated and very irritated

Why bother hyping it - "coming soon" "I'm not saying any more" if it's just a bunch of boots and kits? Why not say, "kits and boots update coming soon". Simple. Boots are for the "Barbie" kids anyway. Do Konami think updating the latest boots is going to polish the fundamental flaws in the game.

I agree buddy.

What formation are you using? I was having this problem too until out of sheer desperation I tried a 4-4-2 with a diamond shaped midfield.

I still get beaten from time to time but I find I have a lot more chances on goal, and the attacking midfielder at the tip of the "diamond" gets in some great positions and causes real problems.

im using the default formation, another thing thats stubborn about this game is players like messi are caught by defenders that have the slowest pace

Not necessarily Primepeace. I play with Bari and they have a right midfielder called Alvarez who's speed range is in the 90s. When I catch a defender off guard with Alvarez he's never easily caught again, unless it's a fairly long distance.

i play at +2 speed and when i go back to 0 oh boy oh boy i can't stand the game one bit, it's so annoying to see players in almost slow motion, more like running in the snow
