PES 2011 Discussion thread

Happens all the time in football and at the top level too. In real life.

People will complain some times for the sheer sake of complaining.

Use the tactics board to tweak the game. I'm sure OF editors will tweak the necessary statistics to cover some weaknesses.
 
I've noticed they look a bit flat actually. Like bowling shoes. Dunno if that's always the case or just at certain angles.

Had another awful day of it, found it impossible to break through the Barca defence. It plays so high and they seem to outpace Every single one of my players.

That was until I moved Ribery to SS and put Mueller at left mid. It meant Ribery was free from being hounded by Messi and Dani Alves, which was a bit of a revelation.

I just don't seem to be able to get used to the crossing either - does the power bar do anything? Even tapping cross seems to lead to it being blasted across and R2 seems to be adding distance more than height.

No. I really like this game, but when an intelligent player like Messi is standing near the touchline, can see the entire defensive line yet still refuses to get out of his offside position that's plan stupid. Not once, but usually a few times every game. As I said I think this is a massive step forward and I praise Konami for their effort but that doesn't make them oblivious to criticism.
 
Well I caved and am downloading the demo. Just realised my brother is coming over for a visit this weekend so I could finally justify to myself to buy the plus thingy even if I have very little time. 47 minutes left, fingers are beginning to twitch in anticipation.

Yep, one of my major (and one of the only) gripes with the game. The number of offsides in a game is ridiculous. And the number of offsides that shouldn't be called (because the ball never gets near the player offside) annoys the hell out of me in the beta.
 
Im kind of confused when people say that the shooting is random and when they do the same shot it is different to the first time they did it. surely thats a good thing isnt this the kind of randomness people loved about pes. Your not supposed to beable to work out the perfect way to shoot or find a perfect angle its all about that single moment. Thats what i want anyway and thats how real football is. Random!
its a football sim. When have you ever seen the same shot go in from the same angle at the same height and at the same speed with the same amount of swerve and curl in real football.

Single, double or treble tap of circle will give you varying heights with zip, alternatively try R2 with circle for a lobbed cross.

Also I can't believe your still playing with Premium teams Rom, your missing out with those teams in my opinion.

Breaking through the defense is hard enough, and then I have a hard time shooting accurately and powerfully when I do break through. Shooting is a lottery thus far in my opinion. Still need to practice some more. I need to master this.
 
I'm affronted by the fact I've not sussed how to beat Barca yet! Obsessive personality or summat. I keep thinking each time I reboot that I'll play the Copa teams but something in my mind keeps saying 'that lanky tit and the little gnome just embarrassed you. Are you gonna let that lie?'

Getting that strategic win should hopefully get that monkey off my back. I'll mix it up this weekend even if it hasn't. To be honest though I'm missing the whole MLO sense of progress - can't help but feel a lot of people would have got a much better sense of the individuality and the gulf in AI quality between PES and FIFA (in PES's favour) if they were playing something like MLO.

As for crossing, I know all that but it's more the application I seem to struggle with. I seem to keep missing my target.

Have you ever played clubs with the AI on your team? It's set to world class and they can't do ANYTHING right, the main problem with fifa's defenders and fifa in general is how many goals are the exact same, cut backs that keepers/defenders can't ever stop and lobs that consistently go in because the keepers rush off their lines every single time.

FIFA 10 is easily one of the worst football games I have ever played, and that is personally down to the god awful AI and the blatant scripting that goes on during online games, it is unreal.

I've conceded so many goals in the 45 minute + 90th minutes (that seem to last just long enough for them to score) because my defence just seperates, nothing I can ever do about it, the fact that the majority of goals also come from one maybe 2 passes, you never get any time on the ball and pressure/power rule the game, it's just a bad game. Also the defenders always go towards the ball and never mark the guy making an obvious run, even when they run RIGHT infront of them.

Also the freekicks that keepers cannot save, ever. Hold shoot for two bars and push forward, straight over the wall and in, everytime. That and the CPU always score them against you in the exact same fashion, always.

I don't have a problem with you not liking PES 2011 but please don't act like FIFA has superior AI, even if it's the same AI from PES 2010 it's still much better than FIFA's. I've played too much of FIFA 10 to know just how many problems that game has, and I still can't believe the scores it got to this day.

I still have hope for FIFA 11 aswell, even after all that, I'll be buying both games.

(I also believe FIFA 09 is a better game than PES 2009, I have no idea how they got FIFA 10 so wrong.)

Didnt play to much fifa10 as i much prefer FWC as its more refined so my ai judgements are more based on this game which has more individuality evident in player behaviour(movement,desire ect)especially in the bigger star players,i also play it on the highest level in the manual settings with a manual cursor.Ive also played a shit load of pes2009/10 and blue samuri so am in a good position to judge.

But coming back to your comment and my own comments,i was refering to the movement of teamates off the ball in fifa and how they react to the game,whats happening around them and make there movements based on how well you pass and move and the position of the ball carrier based on there position.They naturally overlap when they should and also make movements and create space for themselves when you use the length and width of the pitch.Your team moves as a unit,its like moving pieces on a chest board as you can camp in the opposition half and go around the world(back and fourth.They ALSO have great positional sense,reading danger and reacting to loose balls and believe it or not you get the best out of the game and them when you do patiently wait for a opening and create the space for them to work and exploit,you can even get the ball to do all the work which is the essence of football.Defensively you can also command the space behind you.

They dont feel like there on a invisible grid as they do in pes2011,one in which there fine if the game plays out in one variable but as soon as you expect something more complex and expect them to react to the play in a spontaneus fashion which they should based on the circumsatnces and the changing dynamics of your teams shape and facets of the match they struggle.


Obviously you play football in a very one dimensional way because ive scored hundreds of different types of goals in fifa and theres not alot i cant really do with the fertile football imagination i have.

Sadly in this world any product will be compared to its rival and if your used to features and a game that plays out in a very realistic fashion your always going to be able to spot the limitations in the weaker product.

Believe it or not theres a good reason why fifa is as well regarded as it is by people in the industry,the press and the hardcore gamer and its more then just animation and fancy presentation and theres no harm in a pes fan like me wanting my brand to be up to the same grade irrespective of cosmetics.

@expander I always knew you where a FIFA troll tsk, tsk for playing the I love PES role so well then doing a 360 to say FIFA 10 AI is better thereby making it a better game....sad. You probably going to post a 10 page essay on your awesomeness but I think I'ld rather go have some fun playing that inferior football game

I just had another out of my seat moment.

Managed to score a great goal but it was a minor detail that I loved.

I crossed a ball in, it got headed clear and then boom, first time volley from Schweinsteiger, edge of the box, and it flew into the corner from 25 yards.

What amazed me was on the replay, Thomas Muller was about 12 yards out, saw the shot coming at him, and properly ducked really low down to get out of the way, he turned his head whilst down, saw it was in, then jumped up both arms aloft.

Just speechless when you see stuff like that.

I thought you were on about FIFA 10 and that's where the majority of my hate comes from, I enjoy the WC game on manual aswell, play it with mates all the time, it's a lot better than FIFA 10. Although you can still score lobs way way too easily, LT + X (xbox controls) and you near enough always have yourself a goal, my only real gripe.

I don't mean that I score all those types of goals per say, more so the vast majority of goals I concede are cut backs and lobs, and theres no way you can deny that if you ever play online.

Sadly with both games it seems like playing good football and winning doesn't matter when you can score the easiest cut backs and abuse the keepers tendancy to come off their line, or in PES's case spam Messi/Ronaldo/Aguero or Pato, which is why I mostly play with friends now.

Sorry if I jamp down your throat a bit.

I use to host PES tournaments with a few mates and my cousins playing PES on my PC with full on licenced kits, chants and stadiums of every team in the game.

i had two logitech PS2 type controllers and two ps2 controller adapters and we use to play 2v2. it was fucking quality man.

i remember even sneaking out of college just to play the first PES game on my mates ps2 who lived across the road from the college

Oh yeah guys i remember from the MLO beta that most of the time i held R2 because it offers alot more control and it gives the ball more curl and swerve.
 
@Romagnoli I finally beat them but it was a matter of pushing Ribery in a RWF position with Olic CF and playing with Van Bommel DMF, Tymyschok DMF and Schweinsteiger CMF in the middle with Muller at RMF and change Bardstruber for Braafheid (should be default LB IMO).

I had to resort to some tasty last ditch slides to block the shots and eventually conceded a penalty.

Kept at it down the right with Ribery and eventually got a cross and equalising header with Schweini then with 4 minutes to go I stole the ball off Dani Alves with Ribery around the halfway line. Immediately cut in and played to Olic who laid off to Muller then started a run between Pique and Puyol. Slipped the throughball and managed to squeeze it with Olic underneath the onrushing Valdez. The ball bobbled to the line from outside the small box. I jumped out of my seat as it rolled over the line before Alves could clear.

This game is far from perfect but what is there is very enjoyable.

The biggest negatives for me are
- refs blow for fair challenges and too frequently
- crossing is too hit and hope and sux from an animation perspective. Bring back option 5 crossing Konami!
- tricks are too easy
- keepers parry into the danger zone too often

In the real life :P Contento plays LB, with Badstuber and Buyten in the centre, but you can forget Konami's stats for young players :D

I ALMOST beat them using a very similar formation. If it wasn't for fucking Pique scoring unmarked from a free kick :( Two defensive midfielders work very well though!

From the videos, I see a LOT of goals come from diagonal through passes into the heart of the penalty area. The striker makes a vertical run right through the middle of the CB, and none of them seem to be in charge of him. They play in a silly line. Defenses in the game should be set to have a CB sitting just a little deeper, dictating the line where the defense should be standing, and watching the back of the other CB, who's more of a marker. I'm not talking about sweepers, just a way both CB normally complement each others. Professional defenses just cannot be caught like that all the time.

Anyone could confirm if that happens like... all the time?

No! I does not! I haven't seen any similar goals in all the matches i've played.

But Messi has now scored a scissors kick from outside the area against me in the last minute :CONFUSE: !
 
I think that Fifa has gotten almost everything right except gameplay and player attributes. They are so close, but yet so far away...

Their player models have improved immesely. The likenesses of the player models to their real life ones are eeringly realistic. The graphical detail from a distance on any camera angle is bar none. It's a beautiful looking game, but lifeless at it's core due to the absence of the above mentioned gameplay factors. I beleive they will get there eventually, hopefully sooner than later.

PES11 on the other hand has that breath of life, that flowing emotion of joy when you score a goal after working so hard. It has that randomness that no other futbol sim has offered thus far. I would marry this princess with it's ugly exterior and beautiful interior any day of the week. Gameplay is the real reason why I am still hooked to this master piece.

Until FIFA can reach the pinnacle of success in terms of gameplay in their games, I will remain faithful to my ugly but at the sametime beautiful princess that's PES11.

can anyone tell me why can't Konami add the J-League to the game pes2011 as a licesed league as they have the license ?????
