PES 2011 Discussion thread

Thanks for the support,it hurts being labelled a fifa fan boy when ive stayed loyal to konami for over 20 years and played pes2010 and blue samuri to death, although im objective enough to see how weve gone full circle and its now ea that are replicating this sport better.

Like yourself im still enjoying pes2011 its just the ref blowing up 20 times in a game everytime the opposition runs into me grates after the 30th game, plus all the other small ai niggles that take away from the huge strides konami have made this year with the passing.

Im just finding after the early eurphoria wears off it just feels like a losser pes2010 with a free passing system but with the same mechanical AI and core issues.

Next time you watch a real game, count how many fouls and freekicks there are, bloody loads of them, I do agree though that the referees are a bit strict in terms of blowing the whistle, I've been doing some really nasty challenges to test the refs out and it's mostly yellow cards.

PES2011 is a MASSIVE improvement over PES2010, it just has minor flaws rather than major ones like we are used to. We are really close to a perfect game.

To be honest I still have my hope set on Konami sorting most of these niggles before the final release. I definitely agree with the last part, I was blown away when I first played it but the more you play the more these small things start to bug you. I suppose it's normal when you try something new you're looking forward to.

Jimmy, gerd, anyone when challenging for a header from a goal kick how can i battle for the ball? My player keeps getting beat and never wins the header.

Fairplay bud, your sticking your neck out for pes2011 and i commend that because i was exactly the same about pes2010 and im not saying pes2011 doesnt have its strengths because it does.

Its all well and good blowing for clear fowls but when we are supposed to have a collision system, why then everytime there is a collision does the ref blow his whistle. Its not only this,we are in the year 2010 but we are still playing a football game with ai that was pioneered in the early ninties being very maths sub rountine and clearly unable to deal with the complex demands of the new passing system,it simply cant cope....its like new meets old and im not the only one seeing it.

Imo yet again pes2011 is undercooked, that doesnt stop it from being enjoyable because the last 3 pes games have all been relatively enjoyable and this is a clear improvement.

All im saying is the ai needs to be better, its not up to the standard of fifa or other genres or even pes on the ps2 or ISS on the n64 before that, and these were low speeced machines.Yes,its the hardest area to get right in a game especially football but its not like konami havent done it before or that the vocal majority havent been pointing this out for the last 4 years. In my mind this area was key in the development of pes2011 as well as animation and passing. If i and others are seeing these issues after less then 40 hours play time, whats it going to be like after weeks or months.

Thanks guys. I'll try all that.

I'm really enjoying this demo. I figured out how to assign feints and perform them masterfully ingame to my advantage. I have gotten used to the default cam as well. Initially, I would change it to the closer view, but I've since realized that the graphics and pitch looks much nicer with the default cam. The goals also look great on the default cam.

The camera does miss some angles on some replays though. And every now and then, the camera fails to stay with the action. Very rarely though.

I played a game of PES2010 with a friend and must say that if you are comparing PES2011 to PES2010 and finding similarities in terms of gameplay, you are talking out of your ass.

Moreso if you play PES2011 at -2 speed.

Another issue I can't understand about this game is the player model graphics. I mean, look at their arms, there is noticable anti aliasing and they are very poor quality. They look like PS2 quality. Is it my PS3? Do I need to turn something "ON" or "OFF" in my PS3 settings?

Wasn't it the case with every PES on the PS3 in this gen? The total lack of anti aliasing?

Animations of the boots look a bit dodgy in replays, has anyone noticed they look like slippers? Flat with no studs.

When are the reviews going to come out? surely its time now. Im worried about the mix reactions. On the OCUK forums most have said the dribbling is awfull and criticised the game heavily. Is their a 6th difficulty in the retail game? can anyone confirm this?

I've yet to play PES 2011 so I won't comment on your feelings of that game but, if the AI is worse than that of FIFA (10 atleast) which I've played more than enough of to know it is actually beyond terrible.

Have you ever played clubs with the AI on your team? It's set to world class and they can't do ANYTHING right, the main problem with fifa's defenders and fifa in general is how many goals are the exact same, cut backs that keepers/defenders can't ever stop and lobs that consistently go in because the keepers rush off their lines every single time.

FIFA 10 is easily one of the worst football games I have ever played, and that is personally down to the god awful AI and the blatant scripting that goes on during online games, it is unreal.

I've conceded so many goals in the 45 minute + 90th minutes (that seem to last just long enough for them to score) because my defence just seperates, nothing I can ever do about it, the fact that the majority of goals also come from one maybe 2 passes, you never get any time on the ball and pressure/power rule the game, it's just a bad game. Also the defenders always go towards the ball and never mark the guy making an obvious run, even when they run RIGHT infront of them.

Also the freekicks that keepers cannot save, ever. Hold shoot for two bars and push forward, straight over the wall and in, everytime. That and the CPU always score them against you in the exact same fashion, always.

I don't have a problem with you not liking PES 2011 but please don't act like FIFA has superior AI, even if it's the same AI from PES 2010 it's still much better than FIFA's. I've played too much of FIFA 10 to know just how many problems that game has, and I still can't believe the scores it got to this day.

I still have hope for FIFA 11 aswell, even after all that, I'll be buying both games.

(I also believe FIFA 09 is a better game than PES 2009, I have no idea how they got FIFA 10 so wrong.)

End of the month.

Reviews are pointless anyway ;) Anyone can buy/rent/borrow the game and make their own minds up if they like it or not.
