PES 2011 Discussion thread

I doubt that Klash. The problem has to be solved outside of gameplay. It needs to be justifiable to use lesser teams based on increased reward.

This may sound pedantic but some of the satisfaction of scoring is lost with the horrible nets and floaty shots.

4] Referee
Blowing up for fouls that weren't. No advantage.

5] Dozey AI:
You know what I'm talking about here. Players seemingly falling asleep when the ball comes close to them. At times it's like the opposition is letting you get the ball

I felt exactly the same and have even been quite negative about the game after at first being so positive which i regret deeply.

What your experiencing is common while your bedding in and something im sure will be repeated more then once over the next month by many.You go through a love-hate-love cycle with the game while your bedding in then everyhting clicks and you realise this is a work of genius and is actually floorless.

My biggest problem was i was trying to play like fifa but this is a game that allows you to play it like real football and ive now finally got my stratergy and team style tailored perfectly to the way i play.

I thought the ai was broken,the refs to strict and the passing system wasnt refined enough but now im in total control and can even add aftertouch to the ball with the left stick and shooting makes perfect sense and is a deep as the ocean.

Every component of this game has been perfectly thought out,balanced and finetuned,you literally just have to get used to the cursor,passing,ai,defending and shooting mechanics which work perfectly in unison.

This is konamis finest hour i couldnt play anything else now and i apologise to those who havent played the game that read my negative posts which i now wish i could retract .

The manual modifier or l2 button is great for manual crossing and pinpoint placement you can adjust the elevation on crosses by varying the power and spot it on the head of your man or place mid-low for a volley or drive..theres also such a huge difference between all the teams and players and the amount of variation in the gameplay is breathtaking something ive not experienced in any game till now..what a rollercoaster 5 days ive had.This game will spin you out,rock your world but when your head clears and the dust settles and the picture goes from a blur to a beautifall oil painting your know your dreams have been realised perfectly.

That's certainly positivity.........or craziness.

People will probably do that lovely thing like on Fifa whereby you choose a 3 star team first so they have to pick a 3 1/2 star team. I swear i did it once and they guy picked a 3 1/2 team so i went to a 3 1/2 he moved 4 and so on and so on.

Although whilst on the subject it is pretty good not to have team choice dictated by a star rating but by a graph indicating strengths of that team instead. Stars are for lazy people.

Great post Expander, this bit about playing like real football is music to my ears because as far back as the early days this was always the defining factor for konami.

Diffrently put, if you can play football you can play pes.
Although this has'nt been the case for the last 3 years. I say this because when i have played my lad the last couple of years he always seems to give me a tight game, but this is not reflective of his football knowledge because he doesnt really like football ( C.O.D. freak :P ) this never used to be the case years ago, if you didnt know your onions you would be exposed!

This year though the proof is in the pudding and you guys are going back for seconds. FFS i have been around here long enough to know the opinions to take on board positive and negative.

But what do you mean with "adding aftertouch to the ball with left stick"? Could you explain what you do exactly and what is the outcome, please ?

Im not the first and i certainly wont be the last person to go through these mixed emotions in the early stages of learning the game.

Ive clicked,theres no going back now as im in total nirvana with the game,this is a world away from the last three years and any pes prior to it.Once your comfortable fifas a distant memory and pes on the ps2.

Definetly one theyve been working on for more then a year,no football games ever been this free!

When you shoot or hit a long ball you can put backspin and side as well as top on the ball by pulling the left stick back,forward or to the side just after the ball leaves your foot.Its affected by the players curl stat and you can even put it on ground passes if your quick,its subtle doesnt ruin the realism and allows you to take the power off of long balls hit into space so they dont over run.Get used to the power ratio first and then play with this dynamic.It adds alot and gives the game another layer.

Ahh i knew you were doing something wrong :LOL: anyway it's good you can finally see what i see about this game!

It's gets deeper than that in terms of realsim :) !
 
If you play a manual pass with L2 do the players (your own and opponent) react quickly to the ball ?
In PES 2010 for example they seemed to be disoriented for at least a second after you passed with the right stick.

Could you explain what you mean by this? My biggest concern with switching back to PES after playing FIFA the last few years is that I do love playing with all manual controls on FIFA, and it's hard for me to see PES being as free as FIFA and especially not more free.

Funny enough, in one of the FIFA threads I actually questioned how smart it is of Konami to use the motto "Engineered for Freedom" this year considering the level of FIFA's freedom of control and movement.

I haven't played the demo yet, so I'm not saying I disagree with you, and of course I'll have to judge for myself in a couple days, but I'd like to hear more from you on how you consider PES to be so free.

This is where I am at with the game, finding it really hard to find a grove at the moment, I think there is just too much to learn at once. I am only playing Bayern vs Barca on top player until I beat them, some games(not many) go really well and I have alot of fun, movement and passing feels fluid, I can pressure them and defend well. Most of the time though I can only play a few games and have to turn it off, I cant defend, pass, pressure or dribble well at all, every thing feels forced and unnatural, very frustrating.
The last time I fired up the demo I did not even make it to half time, just had to turn it off.
Its annoying because I know when things go right it really is a great game and thats why I keep going back even though for the most part I am finding it very frustrating and a chore to play.

All the players react perfectly to the ball its just a case tuning into the cursor on semi-assisted.Ive never had this much cursor control,you can literally always cut out the space that the opposition is trying to run into if you read it early,its just a case of always being slightly ahead of yourself in your mind and seeing the danger early.The press whores are easily countered as are tricksters with timing.

In this game you have to create the magic,see the spaces and your teamates react accordingly.The game goes from fairly pedestrian to full out fast paced in a heartbeat and you can slow and speed the game up with your play.I love it when the games stretched attacks break down and your teamates make all the right movements for counters.You can time long balls perfectly behind defenders and players always move into the space or hang on the shoulders of defenders for through balls.

I share your pain,its part of the process and stick with it your be so satisfied when everything clicks.

Try proffessional difficulty first the cpu doesnt press you as much and you have more time on the ball and your passes arent cut out so much so you get the satisfaction of linking passes together and moving the ball.

Don't like it much. Too quick for my liking. I think videos make the game look bad when its not.

I haven't pplayed the demo atm, will download it wednesday and see for myself. Most posts seem encouraging.
On the other hand i wonder if playing the demo to much might not clound one's judgement. A demo gives a good idea about a game, but if you play it hunderds of times, i imagine that you can have an irrealistic image...the full game will be much more than the demo.
And because it's the demo one is inclined to over-analyze...

Jon Murphy stated that demo is based on final code, so gameplay wise you couldn't play too much imho.

yep i think default speed is slightly too fast, im going to use -1 as my normal speed, tryed -2 but it seemed a bit sluggish and the ball seemed to get more floaty
