Note that it is not a crack. You must own the game to be able to launch the game with this exe.

Why am I sharing it? The gameplay has more weight and inertia with it. I really prefer it over the 1.7 version (up to date).

Bumping up this thread as FIFA 17 is probably one of the best FIFA out there, but I am still having the same issue as always, defenders just don't defend specially when talking about tracking marks back. I've tried everything. Even asking AI if it could give some possible lanes that could solve this, and nothing seems to have effect.

Has anyone found a way so that defenders track marks back in the area (specially in counters)? It is still the thing to improve in FIFA 17, and I'd say, in every FIFA. I swear to god that defensive lane is SO SO BAD. They don't do off-side, don't track back in the area... Seriously is completely fucked up.

I have a whole locale.ini heavily tweaked adding values of other locale.ini, even with AI, values I made myself...

Don't get me wrong, maybe you touched something I didn't, but I play in slow speed for the sake of animations and match tempo (I play 45 minutes half length) it's probably the main reason of why my defenders don't track as much as they should.

Made however a couple of changes in prediction points and activating movement prediction by AI and it seemed to me in my last test that itactually seems to help with this, maybe along with some of the values introduced by consulting the AI (specifically ChatGPT). I need yet much more testing as I am not completely sure about it.

Send me your locale.ini however as maybe you found something I didn't. Might send my locale.ini as well tomorrow.

Also 19in by papinho seems to make mark's tighter, but this has the problem of also making marks tighter in the midfield to a point where I'd say it accelerates tempo a bit too much in certain situations.

Also, I'd say that marking slider has the same effect, makes your players mark tighter but along all the pitch, accelerating tempo by forcing you to play forward due to excessive pressure instead of having a more relaxed build up. Sweet spot seems to be around 31-33. Also other values like aggression inside locale.ini seems to affect this but I am not completely sure to which level it does affect.

Again, need to test much more, it looks like the locale.ini can help with it but doesn't solve the problem completely as defenders are still too relaxed when it comes to pursuing running players into the area in counters, specially when ball is in the wings.

Will be in contact. I am deeply interested in the topic as FIFA 17 seems to me the closest game to a simulator, specifically in what refers to build up tempo, support in build up to the defenders, etc.
 
Hey mate I thought it might be the slow game speed too, but I've always used normal speed and with certain locale.ini's the losing your marker bug when the ball in on the wing and jogging animation is REALLLY prevalent

Guys, has anyone found how to make defenders more proactive to do off-side trap without affecting to the capabilities of defenders runing back into the area? I kind of managed to make defenders run faster in the area when the ball goes to the sides. Problem now is that they won't do off-side trap automatically (they wouldn't do it too much before, either) even if I have the tactic set in defense to off-side instead of cover. Unless I do it through quick tactic, in which case you've got to time it very good and your defenders will move forward way too far ignoring even the ball carrier if they cross it in the way, they won't try to do off-side.

Can anyone give me some help with this?
 
100% agree, IMHO, FIFA 17 is the best in the series and its not even close. I keep trying every new iteration but they are crap. The teams defend more like a unit instead of that stupid 1vs1 system of newer FIFA's. This goes to show you that the Frostbite Engine is not the problem. I even had a lot of fun playing "the journey". Only problem is there are very few mods for Fifa 17. Happy to hear someone is working on a 25-26 patch,

Folks, do you know the exact number of FIFA where EA ruined everything? I have missed FIFA18 and 19 completely due to PES was released on improved engine. Then I have bought both 20 and 21 and I was very upset. Mostly because of what I have mentioned. The ball feels have no weight and is simply glued to the players foot. Players have no feel of weight and very minimal inertia. Has this started from FIFA20 or somewhere in between of FIFA18 and 19???

Btw, asking here to an old question that more than one of us has had. FIFA 17 is usually considered the last good FIFA. IMHO, for modding is probably the last one that is good cause you can actually change the numer of minutes per half to any you want, and that makes it instantly GOD. Now, on later entries.

Tried FIFA 18 and it was interesting how he handled dribbling and changes made from 17 to 18. This is where sliding started, but I've got to recognize also, that FIFA 18 felt quite much a decent game, in the sense that players would have a weight. However dribblings, though slower in animations than FIFA 17, would be a bit more effective due to also slowed down defense, so I am kind of confused. It has it's good and bad things, but compared to FIFA 17, I'd say that animations are a bit slower on one side, but also defensive is less responsive, so it ends up with a lot of sudden changes of direction that allow for some crazy dribblings due to the defender passing by. On the other hand, it kinda seems the game wants to focus more on the pass, and that's good, but as said, defending is... strange.

I think that if half minutes could be changed plus some defensive reactions, it could be the last FIFA worth to mod.

FIFA 19... it's difficult. I find it much faster than 18 specially in terms of dribbling, so I am not that big of a fan. Also, skating has gone even further than 18, and it feels like it's much more about pace than passing. But even with that, it's the last game that features decrypted locale.ini (though after FIFA 17, I don't know exactly how much locale.ini has an impact over gp anymore, both for FIFA 18 and 19), and is the last game not featuring the 1v1 shit.

So while I could say that FIFA 17 is the last great FIFA game, both FIFA 18 and 19 had positive points but were further getting worse each one. Definitely, the last one that could be worth a try with mods is FIFA 19, though for me 18 and 17 are probably much better with the correct mods.

There are some animations though that improve in FIFA 18 and 19 and that might seem more realistic and lesss twitchy, but you can do many more things in 17, defenitely.
