Forgive my ignorance, but how are these transfers happening now? I thought they start at the end of the season..?
Woww!!! I wonder what kind of $$$$ he's getting!!!
He did. He was fed up being on the bench to Lewandowski this year and his relationship kinda broke down with the club and the coach who preferred The Polish striker this year.
The thing is, this is a very competitive guy who's VERY angry at being on the bench and not in starting 11. Very tough to keep a hold of a guy like that and he can be a bad thing in the dressing room. He was moaning the whole season basically about having lost his place but Lewandowski is doing great, and he's young and there's no reason to sit him on the bench.
So the fact that he was gonna leave the back to back German champions was inevitable but to go to China?!! At his age and at his ability?!!? I gotta say I'm really disappointed.
I'm okay with players like Anelka or even Drogba going there now to make a lot of $$$ in the twilight of their career having done a lot. But let's not kid ourselves, though he lost his place this year, Lucas Barrios is a GREAT striker! He's not a good footballer but he's a GREAT goal-scorer. The guy can hit it with his right, his left, headers, he's got the strength and technique to hold up the ball. He was along with Papiss Cisse the best striker last year and played a BIG role in Dortmund becoming champions after years. So I do feel for him and his frustration at losing his place especially after a great DEBUT season in such a tough league.
It's like he came over, became an instant hit and one of the league's top scorers and best strikers, adapted just fine (and this guy would be a great striker in EPL or anywhere! He's good enough and confident and physical enough) and then got injured and Robert Lewandowski took his chance and performed admirably! So he became 1st choice striker and the impatient Barrios had to wait on bench almost the whole season.
So it's a tricky situation. On one hand, I do feel his frustration and on the other, it makes perfect sense for Dortmund to have put their faith in the young talented Pole and ship the whining Barrios out.
I'm just surprised he didn't go to another top league and make big money while also proving BVB wrong. Maybe even go to another German club and score a few against Dortmund.
All in all, I'm pretty disappointed in him. A guy with his ability and at only 27 years old can be playing at the highest level. There's always time to go to The Gulf or China or wherever when you're 32 and make a $hitload of money then.
I never liked him as a person and now have lost even more respect for him.
