Official GTA: SA Thread - (XBox & PC 7th June '05)

Rumour has it that Tommy Vercetti will not return as a main character as he has already become a big mob boss after Vice City's episode.A new,young blood character is set to be unvieled soon.With that in mind,in time frame wise,if this game follows up Vice City,we would be back in the 90's would we? Stories of swiming in the game and riding jet skis and mini submarines are also leaked out.Sounds good.
 
Yeah the 90's sound cool. I think GTA Vice city worked well because of the 80's nostalgia vibe.

You here a track or see something which you remember from the 80's. Adds to the games appeal. I'm sure most people here can remember the 80's?

I would like to see tommy vercetti mentioned or have a cameo in the game.

I know they probably can't get ray liotta back for the voice over, but it would be nice to do missions for him. Maybe even have "that bloke you played in gta 3" back.

Be nice to have a bit of continuity between the sequels.

They might have the game fill in the events from vice city up till gta 3. Round it off till the ps3 gta 4.

This may sound daft but what if you could have all three cities together, liberty city, vice city and the new san andreas?

You could see how vice city has progressed under tommy vercetti. I havent played gta 1 much but didn't they have the three cities?

I know the restraints on the cpu of the ps2 would restrict things. Would be a nice feature.

Sorry for rambling on but gta to me is the only game that i can get interested about, other than we & pes of course :)

didnt play this game loooooooooong time ago , but i remeber the helicopter was in the roof of the big house... the house of that stupid short guy.. dont remember the names...

I would love police dogs. But then i guess all these activists will go "Wtf, no amimated dog killing" :D.
 
I heard that it is gonna have a gangster rap soundtrack... with fifty cent and Eminem et al...
 
Two things are needed for the GTA engine:

1. A better control system for when you are on-foot. The Max Payne system would fit in perfectly, imo.

2. A first person view for when you are in the car, with dashboard, steering wheel and all.

well it looks like its set in LA, those pylon things in the background of screen shot 2 are the "Watts Towers". Watts is in "downtown" (which to translate for people in the UK means the central area) of LA, its not too good a place to live, where the riots in the 1980s started.

Love the idea of 3 "cities" each the size of Vice City, linked together by countryside. Also being able to recruit your own gang and gamble in casinos - and the stamina meter where you need to eat. Top notch stuff.
 
they also said Vice City was much bigger than Liberty City (GTA III), and then it wasn't. i like the idea of a stamina meter and the ability to recruit gang members.

Rockstar spill the beans. San Andreas details galore inside: plot, locations and new gameplay revealed

So. Now we know. San Andreas is NOT Los Angeles, it's a whole state. Los Santos, on the other hand is, to all intents and purposes, LA. The game's two other cities, San Fierro and Las Venturra are based on San Francisco and Las Vegas respectively. There'll be countryside between the three main areas, each of which is roughly the same size as the whole of Vice City. Big, in other words. Overall, the game will be an incredible four to six times the size of its predecessor.

Main character Carl Johnson is going to have his work cut out. Returning to his old haunts after five years in the Liberty City slammer, and blamed by his older brother Sweet for younger bro' Brian's accidental death, he'll be making his way through an early 90's streetscape besieged by rival gangs.

The most significant gameplay changes are a new stamina meter, meaning you need to eat, and massively improved building interiors. You'll be able to commit burglary now, or run a casino in Las Venturra. If you're feeling less ambitious you can just gamble away your ill-gotten gains on the tables in LV.

Brilliantly, improved AI means you can recruit a gang, the Orange Grove Families, and drag members along on missions. Up to four people can complete a drive-by mission, for instance.

Game Informer has a 10-page San Andreas preview showing now at E3. Every point here is all confirmed and official from the early release of Game Informer. The magazine has 12 screenshots.

Screenshots
- One pic shows the inside of a house, with rendered interior environments. There is furniture inside the house.
- One shows a helicopter with its searchlights on a runaway criminal.
- The others show how the main character can get fat, its a pic of him (fat) crossing the street with a donut shop in the background.
- One shows two other characters that are apart of the main character's crew.
- One shows a gang carjacking. Three guys with doo rag masks are carjacking other guys.
- One with two men sneaking around the back of a house about to rob it. They are crouching and carrying guns.
- Another one shows a california type pimped out car.
- The last one shows the background of LA with a smog sky.
- The rest are the three we have already seen.

General
- The game is more serious than the others, but the elements of comedy are still there.
- A full staff of reasearch personnel at Rockstar have been studying Las Vegas, San Diego, and Los Angeles for months to ensure that they truly capture the feelings of these cities.

Location
- The game will not take place in Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Las Vegas. It will take place IN ALL THREE as well as the countryside in between.
- Los Angeles will be called Los Santos, San Francisco will be called San Fieero, and Las Vegas will be called Las Venturra.
- Each city is about the same size as Vice City.
- Not all cities will be open at the start of the game.
- The entire game will be about four to six times as large as Vice City.
- San Fierro (San Francisco) will have hills. This city is more driving based.
- You can drive from LA, through the countryside, up a mountain, into San Fran, and onto Las Vegas.
- Driving through the desert won’t be empty and plain with a couple cacti...it will be vibrant and alive with weird things to see.
- There will be a lot more buildings with open interiors.

Graphics
- The graphics engine has been tweaked. Smog will be present in LA, and real-time reflections on cars, windows, and mirrors, as well as new techniques like radial lighting, which allows for more realistic shadowing, and soft-shadow lighting for interior levels will be present.
- Everything in the game now has independent models for day and night to give better lighting and shadowing.
- The game will have ragdoll physics, or “impact animation” in Rockstar’s words.

Vehicles
- As for vehicles, there will be pimped-out lowriders, and 90’s versions of some GTA3/VC cars will return.
- There will be bicycles.

Story
- Characters from the past will return.

Gameplay
- In the Las Vegas city, you will be able to buy and build a casino - and then run it.
- You can then gamble your money in the casino.
- Your character can dual wield pistols and potentially other weapons.
- You need to eat to retain your stamina. If you eat too much fast food, you become fat and pedestrians mock you for being fat. You also run slower. To remedy this, you can go to a gym to exercise.
- You can now rob homes. The robberies will require skill and planning, however.
- You can recruit gang members and use them to do four person drive-by’s. (seen here)

Weapons
- The choice of weapons will match the time in which the era of the early 90's.

Artificial Intelligence
- Enemy/pedestrian AI will be greatly revamped and they will think more logically. You can't beat someone to death in broad daylight and not have people notice and react.
- Your enemies will be smarter, which will make robbing houses take a lot of skill.

Music
- There will be a rap station, but there will be a variety of other stations as always.

I personally don't care if the leading character is white or black, but the black character looks pretty boring. About as boring as the "guy" in GTA3.

I wish they had made the character in SanAndreas based on "Jules" from Pulp Fiction, complete with Samuel L. as the character's voice. What a great video game character Jules would make.

"Hey, is that a Big Kahuna burger?"
 
The more I hear about this game, the more I want to play it asap. Why do games take so long to make ;)
