Next Gen Consoles

That's also what I'm thinking but I think it was running loud even after install. I'm not the only one saying it runs loud when playing Killzone, even after install.

The problem is figuring out what's normal because there's people saying their's runs "whisper" quiet at all times.

I'm going to play some today and double-check. I've been meaning to do that but each time I end up getting sucked into FIFA.

I googled it and it might depend on which game is running. Lots of others are claiming the same when Killzone is on. I'm not too concerned about the noise personally as I always game with headphones on, but it's concerning regarding the heat and annoying if you don't use headsets.

I live Portland, OR. Was at Target, Costco & Fred Myers yesterday and saw numerous SKUs in each store. Why bother searching if you have a good console, anyway?

Interesting. I split time between Denver and NYC, and in both places everywhere is sold out... target, wal mart, best buy, gamestop.

The reason why I"m interested is b/c though my consoles works, it runs loud. I guess that's a "good" console relative to those who bought bricks, but not so much when others are talking about it being "whisper" quiet and never hearing it.

Definitely, though the anecdotal reports are all over the place. Some people say they hear the fan running loudly when just on the UI; others say they hear it when playing Resogun; others say the same for CoD and Killzone.

Plenty of examples in this post, including video: http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-4-Support/Crazy-loud-PS4-fan/td-p/42122761

And then there's people saying things like it's "whisper" quiet, that they never hear the fan, that it's quieter than their ps3 slims, like here: http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-General/Post-in-this-thread-if-your-PS4-is-QUIET-after-being-on-ALL-DAY/m-p/42138325#U42138325

There are contradictory reports at pretty much every major gaming forum. Believe me, I've been looking. I doubt it's as widespread as it seems - it only takes a few hundred people active on these forums to make it sound like the PS4 is a defective piece of hardware.

But if mine is loud and others' aren't, that's all I need to know and I'll probably contact Sony tomorrow about an exchange.

Well, I didn't want an XBone before and still don't now. Read Eurogamer and Polygon's reviews and just felt a bit bored by it, to be honest. Too many negatives and hardly any positives that aren't on PS4.

Ah well, saved me over £420 anyway :)

I have x41's for the xbox 360. Do you too? I want them to work with the PS4.

Don't headphones work on PS4 without an adaptor? I know you can't use the mic until a future patch but if it connects via optical cable it should be fine. Not sure if yours uses optical or USB though. Thsnkfullt my Trittons use optical.

So the Xbone uses less power and is quieter when gaming.

But the watts are directly comparable to the graphical power difference :P

But seriously, I'm feeling quite underwhelmed (even though my expectations weren't especially high to begin with). Eurogamer summed it up quite well imo;

-The PS4 is the best gaming console but doesn't really have any games worth getting atm.
- The Xbox1 has the biggest potential to change the way people use the different elements (gaming/tv/media/etc) in an integrated fashion but in the EU the tv/app aspect just isn't present yet.

So generally speaking neither are worth buying yet, and depending on how you want to use it the choice is pretty clear imo (ps4 for exclusively gaming or x1 for a range of multimedia (gaming/tv/etc))

Now, I'm sure I'm not alone in suggesting the attire fits better in NBA Live 14; there's always the feeling that clothing is super-imposed onto the models in 2K14/Fifa etc. Look at the fit on the top right of the 2K14 image, it should be flush up against the shoulder blade. It is on the NBAL14 picture.

Minor details, obviously, as everything else is a step up on 2K14.

Most underwhelming console launches ever.

Kinda shows how advanced PC gaming is these days when these new consoles come put, designed to last 10 years, and they're already low spec to a point.

Still, devs will squeeze out power and I'm sure games will look great for a while. But after a few years, I think they'll look quite poor.

Yeah... They offer nothing innovative or impressive to me.

The hardware is just meh, and the features are nothing to shout about.

The Xbox One's "new" way of integrating games, tv and other media through multitasking... All that is is the ability to Alt-Tab for fuck sake.
As a media centre? We don't know what file formats it can play or stream... Yeah you can play Blu-Rays and DVDs and watch Netflix but the PS3 does all this anyway.

The exclusive titles are the only thing that would appeal to me, FIFA will probably stay last-gen on PC for a few versions in typical EA fashion.

actually your console is just an underpowered PC in a smaller box that is targeted to consumers like yourself

so this is really a PC thread

I have decided I am now going to sell both my PS4's at launch, the 'next gen' consoles are just too underpowered and lack any decent features for me, I was only buying the PS4 for streaming(now not included) and next gen FIFA. Also not being able to play games at 1080p/60FPS is unacceptable in 2013, most PC gamers now play at 2560x1440.

I now will wait till they re-introduce streaming on the PS4 or wait till next year and see if there is a price reduction on the Xbone, as £430 for me is too expensive for a console(even though I am always more than happy to pay £400 for a GFX card).

Well, this is a console nerd thread :P

Also just because I am PC nerd, doesn't mean I don't play games on consoles and should be entitled to having an opinion.
Consoles have the best exclusive games, without a PS3 I would never of played any of the Uncharted games or The Last of Us.

I may well be a nerd but I believe games should be played the best possible way with the best possible hardware.

Wot? Streaming is IN on PS4?

Its the XBO that is being delayed till next year.

What I meant is your can't stream movies anymore from your PC to the PS4 or play media from an external HD, that is the only thing I use my PS3 for and too me it is a massive feature that I would want/expect from a next gen machine.

Was the 360 or the PS3 really that much a jump from the XBox and the PS2? Maybe a few additional features, but nothing that was jaw-dropping, graphical capabilities aside.

I'm not sure what they could have actually done more to have people on their side. They seem to be trying to include snazzy new, innovative ideas but truth is so many other devices do the same thing now as their sole function. Can't be easy cramming all that into a box which people essentially want for gaming. All under £400 - £500 which will be the mainstay of the console world for the next 5-7 years?

They haven't done too badly, lets be honest. Plus the first few days, weeks and even months won't show us anything at all we haven't seen before. It's when the developers really get stuck in we'll see things that may be jaw dropping.

Until then, it's simply natural progression.

+1
