New Kits

You're right,I think it's pretty sensible,although it's amateurish a lot.

Well, not really. They usually use last season's away kit as third one. But, their away kit last season was blue with dark blue, while this year they have away kit in purple and dark purple/black. If they had away kit in different color this year than last season's away kit would be used as third. And for me it is better to use this yellow kit than to make new one which they might not even use. That said: That yellow kit is still the best looking one for this season :)

I don't see what the problem is with Arsenal retaining that kit for a third season. They're only going to wear it for 2 matches, so I think they've been sensible in not exploiting their fans, and getting more mileage out of a kit they have already sold lots of replicas to their fans.

Plus my nipper will be happy as he only wanted the yellow one last Xmas. Shame it has van Persie on the back though

yeah, the yellow is very different of the current home and away, and probably it's gonna be used only against Bitchelona or Milan .. if they meet ..
in EPL, maybe aganist west ham , villa, and less probably against southampton

It's beautiful... Really liking the umbro diamonds, reminds me of their tops from the 70's-80's.
Or Man Utd 98/99

Nice shirt for PAOK.

Not really a surprise given that their selling Umbro and others teams (Santos and Man City) have already (or will soon) make the switch.

Who's next? Bilbao?

Umbro have been making some fantastic kits. In my opinion, though, their England kits have been poor to average for many years now. I don't think Nike will do a better job, but Umbro's England kits have been fairly bland for a few years so I doubt they will get any worse.

It's a shame knowing how good many of Umbro's kits have been that they couldn't bestow that same quality on the England kits.

What a shame but I don't get Nike policy, do they want to sell off Umbro brand?

Nike already owns Umbro and now wants them to disappear from the business of football, similar to that what Adidas did the last years with Reebok in football. Reebok nearly disappeared completely from football and focussed on the American sports. I guess, Nike plans something similar with Umbro in the very near future.

the difference here is that adidas "killled" reebok without anyone noticing, because Reebok made some shit kits last years, but Umbro is making wonders and every year they are better .. and suddenly, Nike decides to erase it ..

Don't know if "killed" is the proper term as Reebok is heavily connected to Northern American sports and does continue to existthere. So "changing the company's focus" would fit better. And I am not entirely sure, if Umbro does have any connection to any sports except for football(correct me, if I am wrong). So Nike could really "kill" an own company to take over control.

am sure after Nike shut down Umbro, they won't improve their kits, and they'll keep making those silly kits with some wholes in the sides ..

I think the Reebok brand is focusing more on areas where it made its name before Adidas came calling, like footwear and fitness equipment. They attempted to expand into other sporting areas and had some moderate success but as jihado86 said, their kits in recent times were shit. Umbro on the other hand only made their name with football kits, though they did make rugby kits too for a time but there were far more established brands in that so they stuck to football.

I think Nike would be bloody mad to try and kill the brand off, especially with the "Tailored" range getting widespread acclaim for the approach and design of football kits recently. It looks as if Nike are trying to pick off the most marketable contracts in the Umbro portfolio and then casting them adrift with the table scraps. Being from a country whose national team wears Umbro strips, I fear if Nike approached the FAW we'd have crappy template kits, like a "oh you're only a small country, here's a template kit and it's red that'll do for you". I've noticed they got a load of new kit deals in Brazil but only gave them like one kit, and the rest are Teamwear strips with their logos put on, it's bollocks!

Also Nike seem to spend more time advertising stupid gimmicks with their kits, wow their shirts were made with 250 plastic pop bottles. But really the fabric of their shirts now are no different to what they were in 2006 when they started to put a bit of creativity into their kits, before reverting to type.

Hopefully Umbro will stick around as an independent brand, keep the philosophy behind their recent kits and come back stronger without Nike interference. Probably won't happen but you never know.

Nike selling Umbro is very different to Adidas effectively killing Reebok in the football market.

they should have made a color different of black, to avoid clash against WBA colors for example ..
maybe they should use Purple, or SkyBlue, or Yellow ...

Agree, weird color choice. Last year they did a prefect job with claret, this grey is useless since a different color is needed when they will play against Galo or Botafogo.

EDIT:
Velez third

I thought referees don't give a toss about kit clashes in Brazil anyway?

EDIT and that Velez third shirt is equally useless. White home shirt, 80% white third shirt!
