New Kits

Hi Fib

I checked out the document from 2010 and its in there too - http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/tou...wc_south_africa_2010_regulations_en_14123.pdf

Basically it seems that they have differing rules for the 'Finals' themselves as opposed to the 'Qualifiers' which are discussed earlier on in the PDF you found, on page 31 where they just talk about...

2. Each team shall have an official and reserve team kit, which shall be declared on the team colour form. The colours of the reserve team kit (shirt, shorts and socks) shall be noticeably different from and contrast with the colours of the official team kit (shirt, shorts and socks)

Its a subtle difference in language but crucial. The above just says that if say Germany have a black shorts in their home kit, that the away shorts must contrast in colour (e.g. white or red)

Compare this with UEFA's PDF rules for Euro 2012 on page 22...
http://www.uefa.com/multimediafiles/download/competitions/euro/91/87/57/918757_download.pdf

As a rule, the team of the host association is entitled to wear its first-choice kit as announced on the National Team Kit Approval form and the visiting team wears its second-choice kit or, if necessary, a combination of the first-choice and the second-choice kit. If the associations are unable to agree on the colours to be worn by their teams, the UEFA administration decides. If the referee notices on the spot

In summary then FIFA = tw@ts

the problem is : it's not only in WC and Continental Cup, also in UEFA CL, Milan against barcelona wore black shorts at home, when barça wore yellow shorts , also Milan vs PSV, PSV wore all red, where they could just use their white shorts and milan in black shorts ...

'Oh,here we have a pair of nice simple shirts, let's ruin them: instead of adding something subtle and classy as a design feature, let's add a feckin' gradient made out of feckin' pixelated polygons'

I like this pixelated polygons. But design is too simple. The same kit as 2012. Only new ventilation and polygons. Nothing new

And Nike would go like "Whaaaat, it haz different shades of blue, itz new and aw3som3!". Seriously....

And playing in all-white yesterday looked as great as expecting. :TU:

Do adizero/formotion and climacool have more difference? Very different material, ventilation on armpit or what?

he new Adidas 2014 Authentic World Cup Kits feature the new Adizero technology developed by Adidas, instead of the previous Formotion technology used for the player issue jerseys. Previously the name Adizero was known especially for the Adidas Adizero F50 Boots, which are characterized by lightweight as one of the lightest football boot on the market with a weight of 150g. But what is the new Adizero kit technology?

The new Adidas Adizero Authentic Kits are much lighter than any previous kits produced by Adidas. Back in May 2013 Adidas showed The Future Of Football at First 'Adidas lab' presenting a special produced light kit set as well as a 99g boot, which could be released in mid-2014 as special limited edition.

ADIDAS ADIZERO KIT TECHNOLOGY

According to Adidas, the new Adidas Adizero Kit just weights 100g, 40% lighter than the previous Euro 2012 jerseys. They are the lightest kit ever produced by Adidas and will be used by the professionals at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

To achieve the lightweight, Adidas has changed every detail of the new Adizero Kit to make them as light as possible. Weight has been removed from the main kit, the collar and the sleeve cuffs with lighter materials used. The complete jersey features a new woven lightweight fabric. The crest and the Adidas Performace logo are just heated on the kit, instead of a woven crest of the normal version.

The new Adizero Kit technology provides additional ventilation, helping players to keep dry during 90 minutes. It's designed to feel like a second skin to provide the maximum freedom of movement and features a slim fit.

The new Adizero 2014 Kit is avialable to purchase to purchase for 250 US Dollar. The Adidas Adizero Kit comes with the shirt, the shorts and the socks boxed in a special presentation case.

It seems like the same thing Nike is doing. The replica Nike kits do have embroided logo's and don't have the laser-holes, while the kits the pro's play with do have those.

just a little thing I have accidentally stumbled upon. It seems that need for new logos came into Croatia too. From this season last years 1st division (now 2nd division) team Inter Zaprešić have started to use new logo. Old one can be seen in spoiler

2.Εach team shall inform FIFA of two different and contrasting colours (one
predominantly dark and one predominantly light kit).Only these colours may be worn at
matches.

This is a very old rule. It came into effect when the world cups started being broadcasted in the sixties. It was made so people with black and white tv sets could tell them apart. One light one dark. But it doesn't imply that its got to be all in one color, It says 'predominantly'. This is down to the kit manufacturers and the football federations, you see the federations Get a bump in pay each time they change kit format. So they just do it. Look at Portugal with Nike, we've had green sleeves, played with white shorts and Now play in all red, and each time we change we Get an increase in pay. Clubs do This too.

well, I don't really see clubs doing that...at least with home kits...it is normal that design changes from year to year because otherwise you wouldn't really have new kit. By design changes I mean thicker or narrower stripes than year before, little details on kit etc.

just look at Barca each year they change a little. But I'll give you an example, My club Sporting has in its guidelines that the stripes must have 7cm in Height and the shorts must be black. And one year reebok payed extra So that we played with thiner stripes and white shorts. FC porto is the same with Nike. A lot of Clubs have strict rules about their kits, so when the kitmakers come knocking with new ideas they better pay Up. Hell just look at Holland. Do you think that plaid pattern in a team Like united is left to the preference of the kitmaker?

well, that is what I have just told. They still have their traditional colors and design, but they are updated, changed a little so that they have new kit every season which they can then sell to the fans. But Sporting is still having green and white horizontal stripes, Barcelona is still having blue and red vertical lines (with varying number of them) etc...

We are not talking here about those small details that get changed year after year. We are talking (and complaining) about trashing the tradition of base colors of a kit. Spain had always been known for red shirt with blue shorts (not always the same shade of blue though). Germany had always used white shirt with black shorts, France always had used blue shirt with white shorts and red socks. Or Italy with their blue-white-blue combination being changed with completely blue kit. That is what we are talking about.

Most clubs have their strict guidelines, that I agree. But those guidelines apply for home kits which are traditional in most cases. Some teams define base colors and basic pattern, others define almost every detail so that manufacturers can't really put their imagination into it. Again, one of your examples: Barcelona uses blue-red vertically striped shirt as a home kit, but they change their shorts. Sometimes they are blue, sometimes they are red. If you look up their historical kits you'll see that they had always change their shorts so that they matched the color that was predominant on shirt. More blue than red on shirt - blue short. More red than blue on shirt - red shorts.
