Need help: Training

I want to put some players up for training but just don't seem to get it right. I try to assign individual skill cards to players and or training on new positions but when I look at the cost of the training it shows zero.
Also the focus points seems to be difficult to use for training.

You need to add some training points to the "skill cards to players and or training on new positions" in order to them to get started
