MotorStorm Pacific Rift (PS3)

Re: MotorStorm 2 (PS3)

Since you are one of the biggest game specialists of the world, you surely can help me and make a list of all the games developers who don't want to make money...pretty hard challenge, don't you think so ????

I never had the pretention to call myself "an hardcore gamer" but i think it seems rather fair and easy (even for me) to say that every single games developer wants to make money...
e thing is that Motorstorm was an arcade racer, some of you guys are obsessed with "simu-fucking-lation" and every game which isn't simu-fucking-lation is a bad game because liking those games is bad for your street credibility...

I really enjoyed it, it was fun...almost as good as the SSX games, which i would like to see on next-gen...

After getting it as part of a PS3 console bundle, I gave Motorstorm about 10 mins and have never put the disc in my PS3 again- may give it another whirl to see if I like it- cheers.

Doesn't look any different apart from the new tracks

Well, racings racing - and if it aint broke!

Hope the physics work as well as they say - like driving through water slows you down like real life etc. Could add some good twists to the variable path courses - i.e. one way is shorter but across a lake and the other is longer, but no water.

Yeah but that doesn't really justify the £40 price tag and the first one wasn't that impressive.

Really? I personally think its one of my gaming highlights. Not just the game (although I thought it was and still is really good), but it was the first PS3 game I played - and my jaw literally dropped.

I've been playing games a hell of a long time and Motorstorm blew me away with its scale, smoothness, graphics, sound and the amount happening onscreen at the same time - plus I liked the Sixaxis control for the steering.

You could say it 'wasnt that good' - if thats what you feel, but 'wasnt that impressive' is a bit low whatever you think of it.

How is that low? It was a personal opinion and I wasn't impressed, so what. I've played a lot of driving games, and for a next-gen title it didn't have the same depth as other next-gen driving sims such as Project Gotham Racing 4 on the Xbox 360. Sony purposefully delayed the launch of the PS3 so the creators of Motorstorm had no excuse. I was really looking forward to playing the game, but I just couldn't get into it. The tracks were too similar and it was frankly boring after a few days of play.

Fair enough it was a launch title so you can't expect too much, but it wasn't as impressive as other launch titles. The producers have had over a year to create Motorstorm 2 and frankly it looks just like the original Motorstorm with a few new tricks.

I picked the first up last september in the bundle the ps3 came in and i was expecting to be blown away but i was just left thinking 'is that it?'

Long boring load times throughout the game - badly structured offline modes - no exhibition races - badly designed 'pick a car' section where you spent most of your time loading - super hard AI with infinite boost and glitchy tracks where hitting a rock at speed would bounce you off and another time you'd clip someones back wheel and BOOM you explode

Graphics looked good - but i was on a SD at the time so i wasn't blown away --- i tried it on HD a few months ago and it looked ok... but it didnt seem to be a huge step up from SD

Kinda like cod 4 - i kept hearing how amazing it looked in HD... but i tried it a bit ago and its nothing special

To mjsmith2k and radiation, give me 3 games that did blow you away and please explain why...i'm just curious...

To be fair, once they patched it up, it addressed some of those issues - car selection online for one.

I just think for a launch title, it was very impressive. The draw distance and scale of the tracks are excellent and online (after a few patches), its a real exciting blast.

I'm surprised this has got any negative feedback to be honest, but each to his own! Even if I dont like a game personally, I can appreciate its technical qualities...

On the 360 (which I owned before the PS3 so was my first taste of next gen)

Fight Night 3 - it played like the older fight nights (from my memory anyway) but it looked stunning and those KO punches with the rippled skin, blood and spit looked great. The first time i downloaded the demo (which was my first demo on the 360 i had downloaded as i had only just got live sorted out) i was blown away and so was everyone else who played it

PS3 video but the same basic game

Just Cause - Not the gameplay or story but the scale of the island and the graphical effects in the sky with the sun breaking through the clouds - being able to get in a plane and fly higher and higher and higher and then free falling out and watching as the ground came closer and closer.

Oblivion - The opening sequence was just perfect... it couldn't have been done any better - I loved the way they had the voice over. Past that ... like with the final fantasy games it started out pretty small and grew and grew.

On the PS3 since i've had it

Uncharted - the graphics, 3d looking scenery and amazing looking water effects - the climbing across walls sections to me felt really crappy and spoiled it for me - they should of had him whip out some rock climbing gear and sclae across areas that way - but overall this blew me away as i was playing it. I really enjoyed it right up until the end and then went back to the beginning to play it again with the unlocks.

Fifa 08 - Mainly because it was such a huge improvement over the next gen fifa's they had released prior to this - i loved the PS2 version of 07 and this felt a lot like that. It had all the team i cared about, a decent manager mode (even though it still lacked a lot of features i think they could have added without compromising their finger in the fifa manager games pot) good commentary (not great as it had a lot of WTF? lines scripted in)

Doesn't need a video but you can view my highlight vid in my sig

==

I can't really think of any other games - there have been a lot of games worth mentioning but i could pick flaws in them all at the same time like such as Assassins Creed which impressed me for the first day then became utter shit and GT5 Prologue - warhawk was great for its online play and big player servers but i dont think i could say i was actually blown away by that

Grand Theft Auto III (PS2) - Simply amazing back in its day and totally revolutionised the genre.

Half-Life (PC) - Now that's what I'm talking about with depth. It had everything I wanted in an FPS at the time and I played the game to death

Zelda Ocarina of Time/Goldeneye (N64) - Two of my favourite N64 games of all time. Zelda was huge for its day and blew me away with the sheer scale and Goldeneye is one the best FPS multiplayer games I've ever played

On next-gen

Oblivion - just simply massive and kept me entertained for ages. One of the best games I've played on the Xbox 360

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - for pretty much the same reasons as Radiation

New trailer makes the game look interesting.

If they've added the ability to have quick start races with more customising like being able to select the ai difficulty, the vehicles and so on i might pick this up.

Though the guy on the ign video totally dodged the question on if they've added things like this. Hmmmm

The lava and water makes things more interesting.

I loved Just Cause.

It was definitely the best looking thing on the 360 that I had anyway.

The water was the best thing about it, wonderful.

The games slow enough already without being slowed down even more.

Its the thing that annoyed me the most about the original, just how slow everything was, it just wasn't exciting at all.

Coupled with the fact you hit a bump every five seconds which put you off course and usually off a cliff meant it was the most frustrating thing I've ever played.

Might try and complete it before the new one comes out though..

I got an email saying i'd been selected but the code was hiddenin a WALL OF TEXT so it took me ages to find it.

I hate the emails sony send out - they look like shit

I got an email too, will DL it later tonight or tomorrow, already DL the FIFA and NHL 09's today.

Played it and its extremely enjoyable. The handling is superior compared to Motorstorm 1 and the graphics are beautiful. It look set to be another great game this year. :)
