Monopolization and Tribal nature of FIFA/FC modding

Incredible how you wrapped all mods/modders as "christmas present" hahaha

What do you mean with "chasing something that will never change the core gameplay"? We do have mods exactly like that tho
I think he’s referring to the exaggerated claims. “I have FIXED the BROKEN gameplay. You wasted $70 but for $10/month (until FC27) I will fix it for you.”

Another great paradox. Charging for mods is making money off a product you don’t own and are not authorized to resell, against EA’s authorization. It is certainly a violation of their terms and (I’m not a lawyer) but may also be illegal. Is then sharing paid mods without the creators permission (that they are not authorized to earn money from in the first place) piracy?
Ofc not coz in the first place they have no rights to earn from it
Is it ok to buy a car from a thief?

I mean that the gameplay with the basic structure of the source code remains the same. Just because sliders are adjusted and team names and jerseys are changed, the game basically remains the same. If you were to change the source code, it would be stolen. However, even "PES/Efootball 2021" with football life is still the same game it was 5 years ago.

Perhaps something went wrong with the translation of the Christmas example. Haha.

I feel it, I feel how you feel. I donated in the past to praise your hard work, because your tools are free and were opensource (that is good, you don't know what people put in the exes, at least you are a person, there were tools released by groups that you cannot communicate).
I was an old school modder, no patreon stuff. And I don't feel spend money for mods when I also want to release them for free and I think the ones releasing on patreon will get bored one day because it will become like a job.
Honestly I got bored from FC modding. I was thinking to do my mod to balance player skills and fix a lot of Db issues, but the game remains not fully twaekable by sliders/attribute (and ebx editing) and so unplayable..
I even did a test putting passing attributes to 10 and a match ended up with 90% of successfull passes. That was my wall.
I took the old good source code of gameplayfootball and work doing my game, not for release, just for personal satisfaction. At least I can change everything, and ganerate my personal way of football. Also, with LLMs, putting my hands on C++ is less stressfull (coming from Enterprise Java) and also have no stress to fix mods every TU or give support for basic questions.

I think it's fine for tools and mods to require subscription to get early access, it motivates modders and tools developers to pour a lot of time not just developing tools and mods but it also update them and provide support and extra customizability with it. However if I am going to be very specific, I think if your tool is made from using data from someone else's research/work, then it feels disingenuous. Obviously FET uses a lot of research and data from FMT and Live Editor and I don't think it's right to be making money from it. If FMT is free, FET should be free too. For original work(fully based on ideas and research made by yourself), it's ok to have early access payment model.
Thought I would chime in - FET doesn't use any research or data from FMT or Live Editor, and FET is free, the Patreon acts more as a way to say thanks, I don't ever advertise it anymore and any modder who messages me gets free access to the Alphas/Betas (which are are needed process espesically now after so many changes have been made).

Ok fair enough then, it doesn't apply to FET. But my point still stands. I don't think it's right to make money out of other people's work, time and dedication.

To be honest, after I opened up FMT and saw how many game files and cryptic parameters there are, and knowing what these modders managed to achieve with FC25, I don’t blame anyone for charging for their mods. Most of them are nice enough to offer a free version (of course it’s also great publicity).
It’s a lot of work, and I don’t think we’re entitled to the result of anyone’s effort for free unless they choose to share it.
Imagine how much time goes into testing and figuring things out. Some people do it purely out of passion and release their work for free, just for the joy of seeing others enjoy it. I can empathize with that old-school spirit, but I don’t think we should look down on those who decide to charge for their work either, especially if it's not just a minor tweak. At the same time, I agree it’s bad for the community if everything gets a price tag, and we’d probably have far fewer mods overall if everyone tried to monetize their creations. It’s a tricky subject.
