The story is progressing nicely there. Still up there with the best teams in the league (don't forget you're an underdog) and fighting... keep it up!
Damn Millwall, though. And damn referee, he should eat that bloody whistle!

You'd need a specialist to be sure that referees would never do anything against you anymore, it seems.
Better call Luciano, here, and you'll never ever have a referee annoy you again, trust me:

A promotion zone spot, very well deserved! Although you're not in the clear yet. How many league games are remaining bro?
Happy to see my countryman flourishing there! I hope he doesn't get snapped by a London team or else he'll be the Chamakh before Chamakh.

Who are Bristol Wanderers ;) Argentinian FA involved again
Just a typo I guess, because Bristol City are sitting 6th on the table

Hahahaha yeah Bristol Wanderers xD typo or maybe.. It's a sign that I should try to sign Jay-Jay Okocha if and when I reach the Championship!

@mattmid In terms of Windsgate, right now both Michael Clarke and Said El-Ahmadi have 7 goals each! :)

Will be back with the second half of the season + FA cup soon bros! Stay tuned!! :RSCARF:

League One Third Division - In Promotion Zone

We are currently in exciting times in Windsgate Football Club! We are battling on two different fronts: The League One Third Division and The FA Cup! Picking up where we left off last time, Windsgate had played 17 matches, and their last game had been an impressive 6-1 win against Bristol! A couple of fixtures remained until the end of the first half of the season, which we were hopint to finish strongly! However, we did not get off with the right foot, as Windsgate suffered our first two game losing streak of the season! Our 18th match was at home against Huddersfield, another strong side who were fourth in the standings at the time, and given the great performance in the previews matches, our crowd was fired up! We had many chances, but at the end, Huddersfield were able to capitalize on their few chances and in a smash and grab win, were able to take away 3 points in our stadium! Final score, Windsgate 0, Huddersfield 1. The next match was similar, at home against Gillingham, and perhaps the emotions of the cup and a long season started to show and our defense committed many mistakes. Even though we were able to score in this match, Gillingham won 1-2, once again in our stadium, and we suffered consecutive losses for the first time in the season! This was a bit worrisome, because coming in we had a seven point advantage and were sitting squarely in second place. However, after these two matches, our lead had significantly narrowed, and , given that these two games were against the 4th and 5th ranked teams in the league, this meant that the table was much more tight! Even moreso, these two games were at home, and so this was concerning coming into the 2nd round of the FA Cup!

1644174425986.png1644174463619.png

This was not the time or circumstance to let our heads hang low though, and we had to recover, because the next match was no other and no less than the 2nd round of the FA Cup!! This was a historic occasion, since it was the first time that our team had ever been to the 2nd round of the Cup, and this result did not disappoint! Facing a tough and determined MK Dons team, Windsgate came out blazing, and in the 8th minute, it was Michael Clarke with the score!! A beautiful play by Kennedy (who is really emerging as perhaps our most dynamic substitute, and even starting some games) where he turns around and finds the dashing Clarke with a wonderful through ball, and our top striker with the powerful shot to the corner! And it's 1-0! MK Dons look absolutely stunned at this early goall!

And the first half domination would continue, as our boys were controlling the match from top to bottom, possession, shot attempts, and overall outplaying Milton Keynes Dons! In minute 25, it was El-Ahmadi's turn, as he increased the lead after two deft touches, a header by Fraser which gets the ball down, then the touch by Clarke to serve it on a silver platter to the Moroccan star, who converts! And before the first half was over, one of the best goals of the season by our side back Vince Black, with an absolute screamer from the edge of the box! The first half was over, and the score was 3-0 Windsgate! We thought we were cruisin'. But since this is the FA Cup, and results can never be taken for granted, MK Dons would make a game out of it in the second half, scoring two goals in quick succession, as we were caught off guard! The Windsgate manager was furious on the touch lines, urging our players not to relax and not to let this result slip away. But in the end, however, our players concentrated well, and we were able to pull off the victory! Much tighter than necessary, and the defensive lapse was enough for them to score two goals to make it a close encounter but then our defense held tough, we had more chances and overall recuperated well! Final score, Windsgate 3 MK Dons 2, and we're through to the Third Round of the FA Cup!!!!

The next match, back in League play, was quite important! Not only had we had given valuable ground to teams below us, we still had Millwall to worry about who were having a fantastic season and were still in first place and with a commanding lead over Windsgate. The next match was key for several reasons, not only did were we looking to catch them after a particularly rough spell, but we were playing at home, where we had lost our last 2 league games. This was one of the most important matches of the season. Not only did we want to protect our home turf, but we also wanted to prove to Millwall that we were back and were looking to threaten their top position! Our crowd was fired up, no doubt due to our win in the FA Cup, and the match was very tight! 0-0 most of the way, a midfield battle, with very few chances. A lot of pride was on the line, as the two top ranked teams were battling it out and battling it out throughout! However, in Minute 84, Jimmy Muir with the run, and a long pass to Michael Clarke who sends a missile to the opposite corner for the game winner!! And an agonizing win for Windsgate as we are able to hold off the league leaders and recuperate some of our lost ground! Windsgate 1 Millwall 0!! :TU:

The next two League Matches would be a mixed bag, as we weren't able to replicate our form against Cheltenham, and lost an exciting albeit disappointing match against Cheltenham at home 2-3, as we rested some of our key players and the absences of Michael Clarke, El-Ahmadi, Jimmy Muir, and others were noted. But we would rebound in the next encounter against Blackpool! The orange team had beaten us in our first encounter during the first half of the season, but now, we were determined to regain our title ot "road warriors" and our strikers stepped up for the win, the starters were able to rest some more as Hughes, Baley, and Kennedy played well for another away win, and we were able to avenge our first matchup. Final score, Blackpool 0, Windsgate 3, and on to the third round of the FA Cup!

1644177589282.png1644177630271.png

The Third round of the FA Cup was special in several ways. First and foremost, it was the first time that Windsgate had made it to the third round, but not only that, but this would be our first Away Match at Withdean Stadium a suburb of Brighton! The preview for the match was intense and had a lot of interest, because it was two league one third division teams, and the speculation was high to see who would prevail to a historic fourth round FA Cup berth! But once again, Windsgate, being that they are by far the less storied team than Brighton and Hove, were able to prevail in thie best performance of the season, considering the circumstances! A brace by Clarke, and two more goals by Windsgate gave us the impressive dominating win in Brighton stadium in which the players performed brilliantly! If the whole footballing English world hadn't taken notice by now, well now was the time. Final score, Brighton and Hove Albion 0 Windsgate 4, and we're through to the 4th round in an unprecedented run!! :RSCARF:

Windsgate's next 2 matches, back in the League, would continue their fine run of form, a 1-2 win against Port Vale, and an 0-4 win against AFC Bournemouth, a fine two match wiinning streak, once again showing that we might have struggled a bit at home, but on the road, we are certainly building a reputation as a very tough team to beat! Another important point is that in these two matches, some other players stepped up, for example against Bournemouth, some of the defensive and central midfielders stepped up and scored goals as well! These two consecutive wins put us in a nice position. Even though Huddersfield has narrowed our lead to 1 point for second place, we are only 1 point behind Millwall now! It's a three horse race!

1644184471902.png

Take a look at the top of the table, 51 for Millwall, 50 for Windsgate. 49 for Huddersfield (Really can't get any closer!!) and things are looking very interesting for the promotion battle, in which the top 2 teams are promoted to 2nd division automatically, and teams 3 through 6 battle it out through the playoffs! Also awaiting Windsgate, the Historic 4th round of the FA Cup, where only 32 teams from ALL English divisions are left!! We will be facing none other than Premier League side Fulham!! So, as you can see, Windsgate FC is fighting two battles at the moment, each equally exciting, each one with its own drama, anticipation and expectations, and our overall season is unfolding quite nicely with tons of stories yet to be told!! Will Windsgate FC be able to maintain their run of good form in the league? (@The Moroccan as of now, there are 14 matches left in the season!) Can they still dream for big upsets in The FA Cup?? Stay tuned to find out my friends!!

Man, Clarke is having the time of his life!! and what a cracking goal by Black, as @mattmid said, a goal of the season contender.. a perfect tale of an underdog FA Cup run, will it be another surprise against Fulham? I don't know man you answer haha

Very excited for the rest of the season, it won't be easy but entertaining in anyway indeed

Guys! Remember that in the Comizzo story, I had a Defender in Gunma called Piston Honda, based on the Nintendo Punch out character?

Kudos if you can find out who Jimmy Muir and Vince Black are based on! :)

I thought calling him "R. Starr" would be a bit too much. But with Muir and Black, you can look at their names as clues haha.

hehe those are cool references bro, especially because we both love Rock Music haha.. But in this case, only Zouch was the music reference. 🎸

I'll give you a hint.. Look at classic movies/tv shows. :)

EDIT: Jimmy Muir might be a little too obscure, but Vince Black shouldn't be too hard.

Hi guys!! A LOT has happened in my Windsgate save!!

It will probably take me a few days to get everything together, plus I've been a bit busy lately with some other stuff, but rest assured an update is coming soon!! :RSCARF: :RSCARF:

- Jimmy Muir is based on a character with the same name from a straight-to-tv football 90's movie called "When Saturday Comes"! in which Sean Bean (Boromir from Lord of the Rings!) plays a down on his luck factory worker who ends up playing football for Sheffield United!

- and Vince Black, well his inspiration was no other than.. The Renegade! "He was a cop and good at his job" :LMAO: :LMAO:

ENGLAND, TAKE NOTICE!!!!!

1645078703532.png

Windsgate shocks the English Footballing World by Advancing to the Fifth Round of the FA Cup!!
What a run by Windsgate FC as they continue to battle in two different fronts: The English Third Division and The all important and epic FA Cup, looking to make history in both competitions who are at the heart of national football!! Picking up where we left off, Windsgate had just beaten AFC Bournemouth 0-4 away to continue their hold onto promotion spot in the League! Our boys looked to continue their run by hosting Huddersfield Town, who were right on their heels, only 1 point behind them in the standings! This was a crucial game, since we wanted to separate ourselves from our closest rival, and also close the gap with Millwall, who we were only leading us by 1 point! And the match started off really well, exceeding our expectations, as we were up 2-0 very early on! Clarke scored a goal in only the 5th minute of the game, and then provided an assist to Mackenzie, who angled the shot beautifully in only the 16th minute and we were up 2-0 before the blink of an eye!!

1645079915701.png

Things were looking up for Windsgate, as the team confidently strode towards the second half after a dominating first half performance! Unfortunately however, Huddersfield Town were able to score two goals in the second half as we were not able to close the show in very surprising fashion, and the final score was a disappointing 2-2 in our grounds! The manager, in the presser after the match, let his feelings be known quite clearly, clearly in controlled frustration! "These are the type of games that are most disappointing. Even though we were able to salvage the draw, this was a chance to extend our lead to 4 points above Huddersfield, and conceding these two goals in the second half is not the kind of performance we are going to need if we wish to secure promotion. I definitely let my feelings out towards the players after the match.. Although we did well in the first half, the mark of a champion team is not only to get the lead, but to secure it. We hope to learn a lot from this game. But now we must turn the page, because we have a very important match coming up in the FA Cup!"

And indeed the upcoming match was undoubtedly the most important one in Windsgate's history! Facing off against Premier League side Fulham Football Club, at Craven Cottage, not many observers gave our team a chance to go through the Fifth Round of the FA Cup! Not only were we facing the much better team on paper, but we were playing them in their grounds. The Fulham crowd was fired up for this one, expecting a drubbing against our rather unknown Third Division side, the commentators were not giving our side much of a chance, instead focusing more on Fulham's strategy, and our opponents looked confident as the game kicked off..

1645080316446.png1645080857402.png

But if there is something to be said about Windsgate FC, is that they have proven to be a fighting team. An interesting point in this match is that Fulham did not appear to come out in full force. In fact, perhaps feeling confident of their superior quality on paper, they came out rather lackadaiscally, passing the ball around and in a way expecting Windsgate to fold to their playiing style! But it was clear from the opening whistle that our team was not happy just to be there, but they we were giving it our all. Outhustling and outworking Fulham, we fought every ball, every possession and tackle as if it were our last, and our efforts paid of in the 27th minute! After a cagey start to the match, in which Fulham failed to reassert themselves, Michael Clarke was finally able to find a streaking Jimmy Muir for the score! It was 0-1, and the entire Fulham stadium was completely silent in disbelief, as little Windsgate was able to wrest the lead! The rest of the first half was back and forth without too many chances, and this went on for a while . Even though Fulham had woken up, and were playing much more aggressively, Windsgate was able to shut down their offense and close down their spaces beautifully, as our defensive midfielders were doing a great job of dispossessing them before they could generate danger. However, in minute 61, Fulham was able to find a chance and they equalized the match from an error from our Jamaican defender Warmington, who had played a brilliant match so far, passed the ball carelessly to a Fulham striker and they equalized! Was the FA Cup dream over for Windsgate? The match changed from that moment on, opening up quite nicely for both sides as chances became more frequent! Yet no goal came..... Until.... Minute 77, oh!!!! It's a penalty for Windsgate as the Fulham defender clearly trips Kennedy in the box....... Clarke steps up and he scores the PK!!!!! It's 2-1 Windsgate, and our team was able to defend the lead the rest of the way for the biggest upset of the FA Cup so far, and one of the biggest upsets in the annals of the FA Cup!!!! We have beaten the giant!!!! The Fulham crowd was completely silent and stunned, while the Windsgate faithful who had made the trip were celebrating out of their minds!! A Third Division team has woken up the English onlookers and has announced their arrival on the national scene.... We have beaten a Premier League side, and we are on to the Fifth Round!!!!! :RSCARF:

BBC Sports Commentator: "This has to be one of the biggest upsets in FA cup History!!!! Little Windsgate, from Northeast England, has taken down Premier League side Fulham and is looking to add on to their glory!!!! This is a momentous occassion in not only for the side in red and black, but in English football, as the Windsgate fans cannot believe what they are witnessing at Craven Cottage!!!! This is an experience that they will cherish forever in their memories and in their hearts!!!!!"

1645082038366.png1645080979284.png

With all this joy and circumstance, we still had the league to come back to though! Windsgate carried this momentum forward with their two next matches on the road, against Yeovil Town, and Doncaster. The first match was very tight in their stadium, with very few chances as Yeovil Town decided to play very defeinsively, perhaps knowing that they were up against a side which had a lot of momentum from the FA Cup. but we were able to win due to an own goal by them, a careless miscommunication between their keeper and one of their center backs! Even though we were unable to extend the lead, this own goal was enough for us to hold on to the 0-1 win.. Perhaps not the ideal way to win the match, but we'll take the 3 points as it takes us a step closer to our league promotion goal! Windsgate followed up this road win with a much more convincing win against Doncaster, once again on the road, as we were able to score two goals this time for a final score of 0-2! We rode the momentum of these two away wins and the FA Cup performance to our third win in a row, back in Windsgate Stadium, a good performance against Oldham in which Jimmy Muir once again scored from a beautiful connection with Kennedy, who crossed the ball into danger.. The Oldham defender missed the clearing header and Muir was able to capitalize on the mistake with a deft control and a well placed rebounded volley into the net! Final score Windsgate 1 Oldham 0!! These three wins were crucial, as we extended our lead against Huddersfield and kept pace with Millwall! Now, Windsgate is in 2nd place, in direct promotion zone, and in good shape 5 points ahead of Huddersfield Town and looking to overtake Millwall with only 9 matches to go in the League!!

1645083108700.png

The only concerning point from this match is that Clarke sufered an slight injury due to a reckless challege by one of the Oldham defenders.. Fortunately, even though the injury kept him out of the rest of the match, it was not deemed too serious as the doctors only diagnosed 1 week recovery, which was crucial because that gave him the necessary time to recover before the next round of the FA Cup! The next match was a 1-1 away result against the always tough Brighton and Hove Albion at their stadium, in which we picked up a valuable away point, especially impressive because a lot of our starting eleven was resting and recovering injuries for the upcoming 5th round FA Cup matchup!!

After the fixture againast Brighton and Hove, the entire English Footballing world stood at a standstill as the draw for the 5th round of the FA Cup was upcoming.. 9 Premier League, 4 Second Division, and 3 Third Division teams remain in the draw and Windsgate has drawn..... Chelsea At Home!!!!!! Can this get any more epic?? Will Windsgate, with their dynamic Clarke, El-Ahmadi, Muir, Black, and the rest of the team be able to defeat the Premier League Champions, in perhaps the biggest upset in English Footballing History?? Or will their proud run end here?? Stay tuned to find out!!!!!! :RSCARF: :)

Windsgate Wins Football League One, Earning Promotion to 2nd Division for the First Time in Their History!!!!

38 League Matches Played. (+ FA Cup matches)
25 wins, 6 draws, 7 losses. (+ FA Cup matches)
1st in League One Third Division - Promoted to The Championship (2nd Division)! :RSCARF:

Oh what great days for Windsgate FC fans!! For their first time in their history (and they've been around for over 100 years!), the city of Windsgate can proudly say that their team has been promoted to English Second Division, the Championship!! This is an unprecedented run, given that they were promoted in their debut in Third Division as well. Two straight promotions for the first time, no wonder our boys in Red and Black are the toast of the town!!

1654305129431.png1654305103241.png

Before this season, Windsgate was very much an unknown team outside of their region. Playing in non-league obscurity for much of their history, with sporadic promotions to fourth division (Football League Two) in 1962-1964, 1973-1977, and then a long spell occurred until they were able to play from 2003-2005! Then, in the 2005 season, Windsgate was promoted to Football League One for the first time, and this is the season that just finished!

What is behind this run of success, you might ask yourself? The answer is very simple: quite simply the best generation of homegrown talent this City has ever produced! We'll get into that a bit later.

If you guys remember, we left off with our last league match, a valluable 1-1 away point against tough Brighton and Hove Albion. But all of the eyes of Windsgate FC fans were set on our next match, a fifth round matchup against none other than big, bad, Chelsea!!

2006 Chelsea is a force: Terry, Lampard, Ballack, Shevchenko, Petr Cech, Drogba, Ashley Cole.. The team is absolutely studded with stars, and are defending League Champions, having also won the previous League Cup and Community Shield! But Windsgate were not intimidated. They had gone on an absolutely unprecedented FA Cup run to get to this point, beating the following teams!

1st round: Windsgate 1 Torquay United 1 (4-3 PK!)
2nd round: Windsgate 3 MK Dons 2
3rd round: Windsgate 4 Brighton and Hove 0
4th round: Windsgate 2 Fulham 1 (a Giant Killing performance, as Fullham is in the Premier League!!)

1654306759885.png1654306792110.png

Here we can see the Windsgate players going all out against Chelsea's stars! The first half would be a much better than expected affair fo our boys, as we played Chelsea on equal ground and even had some chances ourselves! However, in minute 33, Michael Ballack, with a strong shot from the outside, would score Chelsea's first goal at minute 33! Going into halftime though, Windsgate could hold their heads high as they had played Chelsea on equal grounds! In the second half though, things would unravel a bit, as Drogba scored in minute 66 and Shevchenko would put the final touches with a goal in minute 78. Final score, Chelsea 3 Windsgate 0! At the end, Chelsea's firepower proved to be too much for Windsgate, ending their dream FA Cup run! However, at the end of the match, The Blues' Captain John Terry would say some meaningful and ultimately prophetic words regarding our team:

Terry: "Y'know, the final score might've shown differently, but these Windsgate boys, they came to play. Don't be deceived: They're gonna make some noise in English Football sooner rather than later, believe me!"

1654311356555.png

El-Ahmadi with a very dangerous shot which just sailed wide! This was probably Windsgate's best chance of the match! A valiant effort which could've been closer as we had our chances!

Back to the league (9 matches until the end of the season), when we left off we were only 3 points behind Millwall for the league's top's position, and, despite the result, it seemed like our great showing at the FA Cup propelled us to a great run, as we won 4 out of our next 5 matches!! An awesome away win vs Bristol City, 1-4, as we extended our domination as road warriors! Then a tough, disputed draw against Crewe Alexandria at home. 1-1, followed by a great rebound win over Nottingham Forest 1-0 in our grounds, to be followed by two more victories on the road, 1-2 vs Northampton, and 0-3 vs Carlisle United!! 13 points out of a possible 15 took us to the top of the league, past Millwall, with a nice 3 point lead with only four matches left to go!! :)

Here is one of my favorite goals from this batch of games! El-Ahmadi with the score!

The road seemed clear for Windsgate! But we would encounter an unexpectedly difficult match against 19th place Scunthorpe United in our stadium! The game seemed straightforward enough, as we raced to a 3-1 lead with 20 minutes left to go! However, Windsgate's manager decided, in minute 70, to take out Michael Clarke (our top goalscorer and undisputed Center Forward), El-Ahmadi and Jimmy Muir to rest them for the final stretch of games! However this proved to backfire on Windsgate, as scrappy Scunthorpe would score two goals in the last two minutes (one in literally the last play of the game), to make it 3-3! This very intense draw, coupled with Millwall winning, meant that we had surrendered the lead for the time being! We would bounce back, once again on the road against Gillingham as we would beat them 0-1, once again momentarily regaining the lead! But more importantly, this win against Gillingham meant that WE HAD SECURED PROMOTION TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!! :RSCARF: :RSCARF:

Windsgate's
gaffer was not at a loss for words after securing promotion!!

"Going from non-league obscurity to the Second Division of English Football, perhaps the strongest second division in the world in only a few short years is no small task. I'd like to congratulate our fans, who always stood by our side even when no one else knew our name, the City of Windsgate, our coaching staff.. But most of all, I'd like to congratulate our players.. Who've shown incredible heart to go on this heart-stopping run. To go from fourth division to third division is one thing, but to go all the way up to The Championship the very next year, now that's what stories are made of."

With promotion ensured, now it was a question of whether Windsgate would win the League 1 championship!! After losing 3-1 in their second to last game against Tranmere Rovers, things looked a bit difficult in this regard, as Millwall had won their match against Doncaster Rovers 2-0! Going into the final fixture, Millwall had 79 points while Windsgate had 78!

But the football gods would smile on Windsgate! We did our part, beating Swansea 2-0 at home with a great couple of goals by Jimmy Muir and Michael Clarke! It would all hang in the balance until the final score of the Millwall match..... A 0-0 draw against scrappy Scunthorpe United, who ended up finishing 17th!! And so it is.. After all is said and done, Windsgate finishes with 81 points, Millwall has 80, and not only do we earn promotion to the English Championship Second Division, but we win the League Title, doing so in style!! Here is the goal that clinched the title for us, what a shot by our homegrown talent Jimmy Muir!!

The title-clinching goal. :)

And so it is! When the sun set over our stadium, Windsgate emerged not only as the newest participants of next edition's English Championship, but also as Football League One Champions!!!!! Here is Jamaican-born defender Warmington, the recently appointed team captain receiving the medal, and our boys celebrating their historic feat!!!!! :RSCARF:

1654297602720.png

Some final quotes!

Michael Clarke: "To finish top goalscorer in the league is great. But to play in the Championship next season is a completely different feeling. It's an amazing honor. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine to be playing Chelsea in the FA Cup, and then being promoted to second division. Growing up as a kid in Windsgate, and to take our team two divisions up in two years.. It's just beyond my wildest expectations!!"

Said El Ahmadi: "This has become my second home now. To have played an integral part in this, I can't even put into words what this means for me. I am proud to be a Moroccan, and I'm proud to be a member of Windsgate Football Club, a quality organization. Guys, dinner is on me tonight, we will go to the best Moroccan restaurant in all of England!!"

Geoffrey Warmington: "This is the reward for patience, perseverance, and grit. For all the talk about the flashiness of being in the Championship, this was accomplished with every pass, every tackle, every clearance and header, every fight for the ball.. As team captain, it is my responsibility to keep this spirt going in second division. I know we will be up for the challenge."

Jimmy Muir: "To think that when I was younger.. The schoolmaster told me that I had two options: To work in a factory, or in the docks. That the rest would be pipe-dreaming. He told me to throw away my footballing future, that the scouts would've snatched me years ago.. But sometimes late bloomers happen, and all because of Windsgate's faith in my abilities, even when I felt that no one else thought I was worth a dime. Thank you all!!"

What will Windsgate's adventures in The Championship look like? Who were relegated and who will join Windsgate and Millwall in second division? All of that to be upcoming!!

Now that I've promoted Windsgate FC to The Championship (2nd division, what a ride that was!). I've decided to move on to a different story for now! This in no way will mean that our Northeast English boys' story is done, not at all! My DEFINITE plan is to resume their Championship campaign at a later date.

This is because right now I am quite motivated to play my next Master League story.. I am getting it all together, and my idea is to start it pretty soon..

Get ready for my Second European Campaign:

I love the Divin Codino.. my fav italian player of all time probably.

It can also make a nice story cause in rl he almost joined Reggina in the early 00's, only to choose Brescia then. Feels like he could make up for that by carrying Reggina to the top as a manager!

:RSCARF: Reggina Calcio Attempt to Start Afresh in Serie B, Looking To Restore Their Pride and Passion!:RSCARF:
The arrival of Il Divin Codino has come with great expectations, trumpets and drums, and a great amount of fanfare. Can the legendary Roberto Baggio, one of the most beloved idols of Italian Football, stir the team from Reggio Calabria back to Italian football relevance in his managerial debut? These are definitely exciting times for the Southern Italian city and its football fans, as many stories seem to be coming together. But let's start with a bit of background information: The start of the 21st century had been very good for Reggina 1914. Since the late 1990's to 2002, the team had alternated between Serie A and Serie B, and the "Gli Amaranto" (The Amaranth) as they are known had a great run from 2002 to 2009, as they spent 7 straight years in Serie A! Their passionate fanbase from the South of Italy enjoyed a continued run of success in the first decade of the 21st century. However, Reggina was not able to maintain their form as they were relegated to Serie B in 2009, where they stayed for 5 years. Things would quickly take a turn for the worse, however, as the 2014 season ended in disaster. Reggina finished second bottom, winning only 6 out of 42 games and being relegated to Serie C, The problems kept piling up as only one year later the team declared bankruptcy, failing to register to third division and going down to the fourth division of Italian Football, Serie D.

The long road back began in 2015, as Reggina slowly tried to sort out their problems. Despite finishing as the losing side of the first round of the promotion playoffs of 2015-16 Serie D, the club filed for Serie C to fill one of the vacancies for the 2016–17 season and was successfully readmitted. They had a couple of mediocre seasons in Serie C until, in January 2019, facing a crisis with a potential player strike due to non-payment of salaries ,the club was sold and slowly but surely, started to stabilize. They changed their official name to "Reggina 1914", and finally in 2020 they won their Serie C group and were promoted to Serie B, after perhaps the darkest years in their storied history.

And this is where our story begins. The 2020 Serie B season. (PES 2017 smoke patch)

1657863824820.png1657863862335.png

Although the previous management was able to stir Reggina out of financial trouble, the team changed owners once again before the 2020 season, being sold to a new group of entrepeneurs. The first order of business was to restore the team's image and spirit after dark years of financial scandal and mismanagement had rocked them in the past few years, negatively affecting the team's performance. The present management is intent on doing things the right way this time: Reggina 1914 was completely overhauled. With the change in name and management, there was also a change in personnel, a new manager which so much charisma and history, and a very much revamped squad with many new players. Of course, the two main signings which electrified and energized the fanbase were the hiring of Roberto Baggio in his managerial debut, and the signing of Italian-Peruvian striker Gianluca Lapadula from Benevento Calcio! It is quite a 1-2 combination, hiring the storied legend, and an established player who has been looking for a bigger role in the national and international stage and who will surely play a prominent role. Even though the previous squad had been good enough to earn promotion to Serie B, Baggio believed that he needed more talent to compete in Second Division, and so they were very active in the free agent market, trying to get good deals and pretty much giving the team an overhaul.

1657864723612.png1657860476210.png
However, being that Reggina had just escaped bankruptcy a few years ago, the team was able to assemble a cast that, although high on enthusiasm under the charismatic leadership of Baggio, are not exactly brimming with big names. The team has definitely improved, but we are still one of the lesser talented teams in Serie B. Even though we were able to land Lapadula and other good players from quite a good number of world leagues in the free agent market, some of which will be making their European debut! This, combined with some promoted and promising players from the youth academies. We are still not amongst the teams with more firepower in the league (as you can see above). Nevertheless, after much tinkering in the opening transfer market of the 2020 season, and now that the Italian transfer deadline has passed, we now have a nicely established starting eleven, which have not played together much if any as of yet. Baggio's work is cut out for him: Develop chemistry and understanding with this new squad which has quite an international flavor, with 5 Italian players and 6 players from other countries! A colorful group who is just beginning to get acquainted with each other. Let me introduce you to the team (playing a 4-4-2 classic formation), along with quotes by some players in opening media day that might shed some light into their aspirations!

1657862756954.png

- Goalkeeper: Mauro Vigorito, Italy, Age 30. (A solid Serie B veteran)
"I have played most of my career in Serie B and Serie C, where I feel I have proved myself as being a solid and dependable goalkeeper. But I'm not looking to be known as only solid and dependable anymore. Now that I'm 30, I want to have my shot at greatness. I want to play in Serie A. This is my dream, and even though the road is long, I look forward to the challenge."

- Left Back: Luca Barlocco, Italy, Age 25
- Center Back: Rafael Dumas, Brazil, Age 25 (In from Brasileirao!)
- Center Back: Dario Del Fabro, Italy, Age 25
- Right Back: Raoul Bellanova, Italy, Age 20

- Defensive Midfielder: Panagiotis Tatchsidis, Greece, Age 29
"Coming from Lecce, I love the fact that I'm now playing in Reggio Calabria. I wanted to stay in the south of the country, close to my Greek homeland, and now I embrace this new challenge under manager Roberto Baggio. This is an amazing opportunity for me, to learn under a legend, a player we all watched growing up. I am proud to wear these colors and will represent this team as well as my country with a lot of spirit!"

- Center Midfielder: Kensuke Sato, Japan, Age 22 (freshly transferred from the J-League!)
- Left Midfielder: Mario Situm, Croatia, Age 28
- Right Midfielder: Ibrahima N'Diaye, Senegal, Age 22

- Secondary Striker: Youssef El-Sherif, Tunisia, Age 21 (The youthful Tunisian looking to make his mark!)
"Perhaps I am too young to remember manager Baggio's exploits.. But that doesn't mean that I don't know about him and the impact that he made on the previous and current generations of world football. He is an inspiration, and an idol for all of us players who wish to play creatively. It's such an honor not only to play for him, but also to make my debut in European Football. I am looking to elevate the name of Tunisian football, and I can't imagine a better way to continue my career. I am incredibly excited!"

- Center Forward: Gianluca Lapadula, Italy/Peru, Age 30
"Some people might wonder at my double nationality. Well, my father is Italian and my mother is Peruvian. Even though I am looking to represent Peru in the international stage, and I love that part of my identity as well, I consider myself first and foremost an Italian and I am fully committed to captaining Reggina back to Serie A. I'm not the kind of player who aims low. My goals are clear and my role here is to lead the team back to their rightful place, a place of relevnce, passion, pride, and history! Manager Baggio has entrusted me with the captaincy, and my heart and soul are in the here and now, in fighting for this team. FORZA REGGINA!"

- Manager: Roberto Baggio, Italy, Age 53
"Maybe some people doubt my managerial ability in my first experience.. Will I succeed? I think the more important question is: Will we succeed. I would first like to thank the new management, the city of Reggio Calabria, the very passionate fans, the players who have placed their trust in our new project, and everyone who has given me a warm welcome. I don't feel comfortable with all the attention, however, since this moment is about us, not just about me, but know this: I feel every one of your salutes and good wishes in the bottom of my heart, and am intent on doing the best I can to bring this team together. I'd like to tell you guys a little story: earlier in my career, I almost joined Reggina before I decided to go to Brescia. So coming here in a way, is like coming full circle. I feel like this is something that I always wanted to do, and now that I'm here, I owe it to the fans, to the players, and to the organization to give it my all."

"I've heard a lot of superlatives ever since I decided to join. A legend returns, the debut of an idol, etc.. Let me tell you, that having accomplished what I did in my playing days, I am not any of these things. I am only a person. An Italian who loves my country. A Buddhist. Now a Regginista. I would like, however, to put the spotlight away from me, and put it on us, on the city and the team, the players and the fans and the entire organization. We are all in this together, bound by purpose and spirit. And the harder we try to focus on individualities and personal ego, the farther we will be from succeeding. The collective heart and soul of the team, that is what matters. And hopefully, with calmness and focus, harmony, wit as well as little bit of magic, we will be able to bring everything together and give the city of Reggio Calabria and Reggina's fans the story they want, the story they deserve."

What stories are in store for Il Divin Codino's managerial debut in the newly reformed Reggina 1914? Will the team be able to rise back to prominence with a fresh start? What surprises await us in Serie B? Will the team be able to forge an identity under Baggio's unconventional ego-less approach with this group of likeable newcomers full of personality? One thing is for sure: The ride is sure to be an interesting one. So many changes, so many stories.. The excitement of Serie B Calcio is here!

That's a lovely introduction. In fact, Reggina have had the best performance in Serie A in the 21st century in 04/05 campaign when they finished mid-table, with names like Carlos Paredes, Marco Borriello, Ricardo Veron, Shunsuke Nakamura, Viktor Boudianski, Giacomo Tedesco, a young promising Simone Missiroli and others...

In this squad you can feel a bit of a potential, especially in the African duo of N'Diaye and El-Sherif. I think Reggina are looking forward to have different roles in the starting eleven, ranging from Serie B veterans (Vigorito) to top flight experienced players (Taxtsidis) to overseas players (Rafael Dumas & Sato). That's a lovely linking, I would love to see how good the chemistry will be between those players especially in Italian football and also how good N'Diaye and El-Sherif would become. I can see the fans describing El-Sherif as the next Baggio because he is also a supporting striker but let's lower the expectations :P

FORZA REGGINA! :RSCARF:
