Microsoft Xbox 360

Call of Duty 5 beta early next week

Blog entry by Tom Bramwell

Activision has been in touch to tell us that the Call of Duty 5 Xbox 360 multiplayer beta will begin early next week.

Eurogamer will have thousands of keys to give out as soon as it does, but you will need to be a registered user to grab one.

You can sign up elsewhere on Eurogamer - it costs nothing and you get lots of great benefits, like, well, access to stuff like this.

Look out for more on the COD5 beta - including our impressions - soon after it launches next week.

I'm registered to the Callofduty.com forums and despite the fact that my profile says that I have a PS3 only and I only ever posted in the PS3 boards they have sent me a beta code for the new CoD on the 360.

If anyone wants it the beta code its in bold below.

Because of your commitment to our community, you've been selected to participate in the Call of Duty: World at War Xbox 360™ Multiplayer Beta*! The below code will get you access to this beta before everyone else.

CCBMV-63BC3-V4KWY-99XPV-HVWDG

In order to participate in the Xbox 360 Demo:

1. Receive your Xbox Live® Marketplace Token (above) and write it down.
You will not be able to download the Beta without it
2. Log into Xbox Live with your gamer profile
3. Access Xbox Live Marketplace through the Xbox 360™ Dashboard
4. Click Redeem Code
5. Enter your Xbox Live Marketplace Token when prompted
6. Start the download
7. Join the fight!

Oh yeah i used that site to buy a 3 month sub about a week ago

it came in an email later than expected but i did ask for the code at about 8 at night

i would recommend him anyway

I used this site, www.xboxliveuk76.com. 25.49, ordered at 130am, picture of the code arrived at 230am, and it worked a treat!

It was 24.49 when I used them, cheeky sods.........

yes we will

just means having the game in the drive to verify you actually have the game and then it will boot and run off the hardrive leaving the dvd drive silent and loading times should be better etc

Oh right, that's quite cool. How big will the games be on the hard drive roughly? I've only got a 12GB hard drive, might have to invest in one of the new big ones. Though to be honest the only game I play is FIFA anyway!

Yep the games are all 6-8gb

I'm waiting for the update to hit before using my 3rd party HDD instead of the MS one, hoping the 20% better speeds make a difference :)

which one do you have placebo? how many gb?

I have

1x official MS 120gb (From Ebay, New, £67.50)
1x official MS 20gb (From Ebay, Used, £23)
1x Western Digital 160GB (From Ebay, New, £35.99) 20% faster than the MS one.

The plan is to keep using the official MS one until the update hits, then take the hdds.bin from that drive and use it to clone the WD 160gb drive and put it into the casing of the 20gb drive, then I'll sell the official 120gb drive locally (or on Ebay).

You can get the hdds.bin for a 120gb drive from the net of course but I'm wary about there being thousands of cloned drives having the same hdds.bin and MS being able to spot it and do something about it :)

One he made earlier :)).

LOL

Let's have a look at the decent games coming out over the next 30 days shall we?

Fable 2 [24/10]
Far Cry 2 [24/10]
Fallout 3 [31/10]
James Bond 007 Quantum of Solace [31/10] (getting good reviews)
Crash Bandicoot [31/10] (I love the Crash Bandicoots)

Little Big Planet [05/11] (PS3 only)
Gears of War 2 [07/11]
Call of Duty World At War [14/11]
Guitar Hero World Tour [14/11]
Mirrors Edge [14/11]
Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 [14/11]

That's excluding games that look like they might be good, such as "Need For Speed Undercover" (which is going back to the good old days of NFS, with police chases), "This Is Vegas" and SOCOM (which I've already pre-ordered for the headset). That's 10x£40 (£400) plus Guitar Hero and the equipment for £150. Including my SOCOM pre-order that's nearly £600.

I don't think Midnight Club gets a look-in amongst all that. In other news, what's the quickest easiest non-painful way to get £600? I think the PS3's going to have to go, that's a good start...

That reminds me, my nephew's 360 has got the RROD but it's a certain kind of RROD (two rings instead of three I THINK) where the MS guys are saying "to fix that you'd have to pay £60" or whatever their repair fee is now. I told him to wrap a towel around the bastard to get it to three rings, but it's not having it.

What's his best option? I feel sorry for the kid, he doesn't want to shell out £60 but it's obviously cheaper to do that than buy a new one. And you get some kind of repair warranty for a few years with the £60 don't you?
