Rumor: Xbox 360 packing 65nm Jasper boards

360 Outselling PS3 2:1
Yesterday's British console sales charts showed two things: one, that the Wii is an unstoppable force of nature. And two, that the PS3 is playing tortoise to the 360's hare, as it starts to play catch-up following its late European launch. So Microsoft will be breathing a sigh-and-a-half of relief today to read that, since their latest round of price cuts, 360 sales in Europe have shot through the roof (up 214%), and the console is now outselling the PS3 across the continent by "more than two-to-one". Shame we don't get some hard numbers to show just how awesome that is for Microsoft, but hey, that's how GfK and ChartTrack roll. Mysteriously

Xbox 360 with Jasper arrives on the scene in all its 65nm glory

by Stephanie Patterson, posted Sep 29th 2008 at 10:07PM
Hey, those Jaspers we've heard so much about are finally popping up in Xbox 360 consoles -- a bit behind the anticipated August release date, but better late than never right? If you'll recall these boards come equipped with 65nm chips that draw significantly less power, along with reduced heat output. If you're thinking about picking one of the new models up, you might want to check that the manufacture date is no earlier than August 6, 2008, and lot number is 8031 or above. So if you just bought a new console, it's time to go foraging for that receipt, but if you're still not sold there's always Valhalla to look forward to.

Update: Looks like this may just be some overeager entries in database -- we'll let you know when we get some hard proof. In the meantime, if you decide to launch your own attempt in identifying a Jasper, keep an eye out for changes to components on the board: the tell-tail sign of a Falcon is the orientation of the inductor rings near the CPU heatsink (two laying flat -- as opposed to three standing up.) A lower than 175W power supply would also be an indicator, though there's no telling if that will be the case.

From WENB -

A small number of people have sent in emails about Xbox Live hanging and having problems since the PES 2009 demo, to those of you with these issues, a solution has been found!

I myself had this problem when downloading the demo, it stopped downloading after about 35% so I’m PES demo-less until Saturday . Since then, XBL has been freezing after signing in and the solution to this is to go into the Memory tab in the system settings and to delete the PES 2009 demo or rather the corrupt, not fully downloaded file. Once you’ve restarted the Xbox, signing in should be fine and you can get back to downloading and enjoying the PES 2009 demo! So to those who have asked, and to the rest of you, here’s your solution!

The PES Demo is bad for you in more ways than one

You can use a US 360 controller on a pal 360 right? A friend of mine has brought a 360 controller from the states and it should work on a European X-Box 360 if Im not mistaken..

Xbox 360 external Blu-ray drive ready, waiting

Sure enough, after several months of peaceful bliss, here we are again on the verge of an Xbox 360 Blu-ray announcement! Or not. Toshiba-Samsung Storage Technology Corp. (not to be confused with plain old "Toshiba Corp.," which is apparently "strictly against Blu-ray") has allegedly been contracted to manufacture an external Blu-ray drive for Xbox 360, reports X-bit labs. The drives are rumored to retail at around $100 to $150 in an attempt to cut into PlayStation 3 sales (combine a $150 drive with the Xbox 360 Arcade, for example, and the total cost would be $350).

X-bit labs speculates Microsoft may launch the external drive this holiday, but with reportedly low sales, Blu-ray could likely wait until a proper CES unveiling. Still, we've got TGS popping off in mere hours and Blu-ray's clock ticking down every day. No time to waste then?

XNA Games Showing Up On Xbox Live

Several readers have emailed us to let us know that two games have appeared on Xbox Live under the XNA Creator's Club banner. A space shooter called Net Rumble and a letters game called Netters are both available for download as we speak, as I just verified, in both free demo and full versions priced at 100 Microsoft Points a pop. Unfortunately we've also verified that the two titles seem unplayable to the average users, with XNA Creator's Club launcher errors popping up even if you have the program installed. I suppose I'll just let
