What John Schappert unveiled for the world on stage at E3 was just a sneak preview, so I wanted to share some deeper details on some of the new features in the new Xbox experience.

Here is a look at some additional features you will find interesting:

· Play from hard drive. Copy your games from the game disc and play directly from the hard drive. Not only will the drive not spin, but load times are quicker, as well. Of course, you will still need the disc in the tray to prove you own the game.

· Access Xbox LIVE Marketplace on the Web. Browse and purchase Marketplace content whenever you want from Xbox.com and it downloads automatically to your console. Purchase that new map, television episode, the latest Xbox LIVE Arcade game or set up a movie to watch when you get home from work.

· Dashboard built into the new Xbox Guide. For everyone who loves the blades interface, it’s not going away; they are now built directly in to the new Xbox guide. Every feature and option is available right from the guide. You can even access your full games library at all times. No matter where you are (in dash or in game), immediately call up your games played list and directly launch a game.

· LIVE Party system. Create a party of up to eight friends, and stay with them from one game to another, or watch a Netflix movie together, or share a slideshow of your personal photos. It works with all Xbox 360 titles, not just upcoming games. LIVE Party allows up to eight people to chat in the dashboard, so you can meet up before playing.

· Xbox LIVE Primetime. This whole new category of games is going to give you more reasons to get online with your friends. Games will support everything you’d expect, like Achievements and leader boards, but many of these games will include real prizes. You can invite your friends, and even set a reminder for an upcoming show. Each game is broadcast simultaneously, so everyone is answering the same questions. Many events will have a live host, calling the shots as they happen.

· Avatars. Your online identity started as a Gamertag - it then grew into a personalized Gamercard. Now, it has evolved even further into avatars. You can express your style, check out new outfits and share this with the community. Avatars will also be integrated into Xbox LIVE Arcade games, LIVE Party, as well as retail games.

· New display support. Because you asked for it, we are adding 16X10 over VGA or HDMI, and support for 1440x900 or 1680x1050.

This is only the beginning. Over the next few months, we will share more details on the upcoming changes.

The display support and installing whole games to the HDD are very nice features :TU:

Not really, it takes away the spinning of the drive (which is the main cause of noise) along with improving game loading times by a fair margin.

I guess those of us with small size HDs are gonna have to shell out more to buy a bigger HD to install the games onto.

Guys, my 360 is dying i guess, every game i try freezes after approximately 10 minutes and some games don't play even, always getting the unreadable disc error.

Problem is, bought my console in Nov '06, so the 1 year warranty is over. But remember reading microsoft extended the warranty to 3 years. Is that true? If so, can someone provide me with an official link so I can provide with my 360 to prove to the store i got it from?

Bought my 360 from virgin by the way, but when i told them of the problem they said my 1 year warranty is over and I told them I thought microsoft extended that to 3 years. Dude took my 360 serial number and told me he is going to ask about it.

If any can help it would be very appreciated, thank you.

You need to call MS and give them your 360 details, they'll send you a box to send your 360 off and get it looked it.

Thats all then? Guess I gotta find my local Microsoft number. Thanks Dags.

Still though, I found the Microsoft press release for extending the warranty to 3 years but it only mentions the RROD. I haven't got that yet but I remember seeing just the one red light. Still I can't play a single game for more than 10 minutes though so hope they do something about it.

What if you just tell them you get a RROD even if you dont?
Won't they know when they're checking?

You should give it RROD before you send it off, invite jonneymendoza around to play on it for 10 mins, that'll do the job ;)

Well tbh I phoned them again and again and apparently they won't do much unless its got the RROD. So basically i'll just leave it on non stop till it blows up. Any better ways of getting the rrod faster?

Put it on a carpet when its on. Get a DVD and scratch it so the laser is fucked. :D

If you tell them you get a RROD even if you dont, I doubt they'd send it back, because you can say they are lucky not to get one or something, and it happened to you.

New HDD feature sounds great. Can't wait to play FIFA09 with no disc spinning noise :DD

Couldn't resist what? We'll be doing it with our Xboxs and you'll be doing it with your WankPlayStations.

You meant it as if you were doing something that we couldn't do, but we can both install games to HDD and play off there...

just ms were making a big deal of it, like it was new. I thought I'd jump in with a humorous poke, before the crazy fanboys have a go.

Not really jonney, as the install is optional, just so that the Xbox runs quieter and load times become faster... It's not like the PS3's install feature which is required to play the games...
