Microsoft Xbox 360

You could just buy front speakers.

And use your current speakes for the rears.
And when you save up some more money, buy a some better rears, and a sub as well.

yeah, true. Also jack do you plan on listening to lots of music thru this system? if not, i wouldnt worry about quality too too much.

I would listen to music through it yeah, an hour or two a day. Mostly 2-channel MP3s though from what I can gather. It's mainly to hear bullets pinging around in Call Of Duty etc...

Explosions in Vegas are incredible on my system :) The Creative Inspire 5.1 Digital 5500. It also bloody helps too, when someone is shooting, because you really can hear which direction it's coming from and know which direction that person is in! :D

2 channel is fine, but mp3's will sound better on a better system.... but i doubt your that much of an audiophile to care. sounds like tim has the right idea for you...

Music-wise I wouldn't care too much, no. I'd want half-decent quality but if it was only two-channel I wouldn't mind too much. It's just for 5.1 sound on games and movies I'm interested in.

DJ, they don't make that Creative system any more, and the new models are absolutely shite for sound quality from what I've read. They don't even have optical inputs now. The Logitech stuff is supposed to be great though, but once again no optical input unless you want to spend £200 on the X-5500 (like I will have to, unless I go for the proper audio receivers, which I know is the sensible option).

£150 its made for the 360 and its fucking awesome, i was playing Vegas with Tim and CW and i could hear a dog barking outside so i looked out the window only to find that it was coming out of one of the side speakers #-o

Its 650 watts as well so its veryyyyyyyy loud and the bass will shake your house if you so wish :)

Its got 2 optical inputs, which i use for the 360 and Sky+, coaxial which i use for the DVD and analogue for the PC. It also comes with a remote that controls the 360 which is nice when your watching xvids or listening to music

If you have any questions about it fire away.

WOOHOO, that looks perfect!! And that's a steal of a price as well, that is excellent. Tim found it for me the other night on Play, but it's £200 there. I'd pay £150 for it though, if it's got your recommendation.

Any reviews anywhere? What's the best things and the worst things about it?

EDIT: Just read this:

"Finally we moved on to music, and it was here that we were left a little disappointed. Across almost every genre, music had a slightly strange quality, not quite sounding as it should. We tried tinkering with the system's many sound processing options, but to no avail; the balance between ranges just wasn't quite right. On top of this, we really noticed the disparity between the subwoofer and satellites. The booming subwoofer could never quite give the impression that it was part of the same system, with its thunderous overtones incapable of conveying the subtleties of many tracks. The few genres of music that worked well with the system were those that were less heavy, primarily classical styles and acoustic pieces, but just how many gamers enjoy blasting out Beethoven is anyone's guess."

D'oh. :( How do you find it for music Coopz?

Its perfect for everything, i have even found myself switching on the PJ, 360 and Surround just to listen to music. Thats something i never did before but now its too good not to

trust me you will you only be disappointed becuase you didnt get it sooner :)

if you wanna read up on it just scan through this thread in AVforums, theres not a bad word said about it.

http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=379757

btw the £50 offer has gone and i missed it as well, you will know what i mean by reading the thread

oh they may be talking about the CD quality which i cant comment on but MP3's streamed through the 360 are brilliant

Damn, for £50 I would have bought one for each room. :(

I'm determined to find them that cheap now, if John Lewis did it somewhere else must be doing it...

that looks pretty nice but just to be clear guys, maxiumum wattage means jack shit. You need to look at consistent or RMS or constant wattage(something like that) no way that receiver is 600 wats RMS or the speakers 100 watt RMS. BUT since there all matched, then it should be ok(if your receiver is 300 wat rms and speakers 100 rms, you could blow the shit out of those speakers if your not careful). I wouldnt pump those speakers too loud.... for too long... with music, games you should be ok.

Coopz, are the satelite speakers wireless or am I burying more wires with this thing?

its far to loud to have it anywhere near full anyway
well that depends on alot of things, mainly the room its in.. is it in your bedroom? if so it probably seems louder then it actually is due to reverb, vibrations, distance from speakers and listening position and such. So if jacks room is large, he could have different results...

I think for even 150 quid that system looks as sweet as really.

From reading the reviews, the Logitech Z-5500 is clearer and more precise, but it's £200+ and there's only one optical input. For £50 less you get a decent setup and two inputs, so I think this is definitely the system I'm going to get.

I'm going to try and get it cheaper than £150 though, I'll keep an eye out. I can't believe I missed out on it being £50.

I cant speak highly enough of it

i would recommend it to anyone even if there were looking for an more expensive system

its far far better than decent as you will find out when you get it :)

The reviews I've just been reading for the Pioneer ones are all pretty bad, I've just read a T3 review that says they distort when you turn them up and for the price you should expect a lot more. But if John Lewis have a display model left for £50 I'll happily snap it up - doubt it though.

Otherwise I think I'm going to have to save up £200 and get the Logitech Z-5500 and a £15 converter box (optical to coaxial) so that I can have two sources in it. All of the Z-5500 reviews are raving, "you can't get better for the price" etc. - it's only the price that puts me off. Originally I only wanted to spend £100, it's getting out of hand now!!

Even so the general consensus of the reviews is poor. But like I say, for £50-£100, I'd snap it up. I'll keep an eye out for the next month or so, if I spot the Pioneer for £100 or less I'll grab that, if I spot the Logitech Z5500 for £150 or less I'll grab that. Otherwise at the end of the month I'll go for a "proper" receiver and use my Aiwa speakers (which I don't think are up to much but it's better than nothing).

Coopz - I remember when we both thought there was a dog outside! I had to look out my bedroom window to check too  :D
