Microsoft Xbox 360

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

ThomasGoal....I do occasionally agree with your comments - I like to hear both sides of the story for most things afterall. But I sometimes feel that some of your comments are better off in a PS3 fanboy forum or in your PS3 thread maybe?

Having brought the PS1 and PS2, Sony have treated us Europeans (and to an extent, the Americans) like trash. Their online facilities don't look too good either and tbh, GTA and PES stopped me from selling off my PS2.

Microsoft has always stated that there is a possibility that the 360 will have a HD-DVD drive but no matter what, all the games will be released in DVD format.

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

Well I finally got Live....its free 30 day trial if you bought a premium, no credit card required.

Milanista 11 - the 11 was my brother's idea.

that is 100% true.

I have to say though that Microsoft WILL release a HD DVD drive sometime next year for the 360, but this is only to play the forthcoming HD DVD movies. All games will stay on DVD.

This backwards compatibility crap has confused me a bit...

I realise the Oddworld games aren't on the compatibility list but these (regardless of not being XBOX 360 games) are the two games I want the most. If I go out and buy them for Christmas, what are the chances of them working on the 360 before the spring?

I don't know when/if the Oddworld games will become backwards compatible, however I just wanted to make sure you knew that you must have the HDD to play Xbox games.

Apologies if you already knew this.

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

Just a heads up for everybody. If you follow this link. http://shop.game.net/ViewProduct.aspx?cat=10212&mid=327511

You can get PGR2 an Xbox live headset and 12 months live subscription for about £22. This is obviously a Xbox 1 game but you only need the 12 months Subs for live which work for the 360 as well. All you have to do is order anything else from the site and the Package price drops from £40 to £20, I bought batterys for £2. You can then flog the game and headset and bsically you will get 1 years live subs for free. Easy peasy.

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

Very good deal!
but just getting my pes5(xbox) and starter kit sent for £48.99
;(

And I can't really order another 12mths!

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

just been playing PDZ0 and decided as good as it is ..its no battlefield2 on PC.
Xbox live has shown me nothing good as yet....
and now I'm worried I've just bought pes5 on it.

Broadband, a router and a Cat 45 cable. Any other questions?

;)

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

If you have bought the Premium System you get an RJ45 network cable with it. If you have the Core Console I dont think it comes with a network cable.

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

Game got some xbox 360's in today. Im assuming all stores around the country got some. All the ones we got this time were premium packs, which shows Microsoft are listening to what people want.

I hope everyone wanting to get a console got one.

Fingers crossed we get one more delivery before xmas.

What about DoA4? Has that been pushed back even more? The online portion of that game looks so good:

In DOA4, the lobby feels more like a virtual space for you and your fighting friends to hang out. Sixteen players can hang out in the lobby, chatting with one another and viewing fights. You can view the fight on the monitor within the virtual world if you like -- it looks somewhat like DOA4 would look running on a grainy television -- or join in on the match, either fighting or viewing the fight up-close. When you chose to go into full-screen mode, the game pauses briefly, and you end up viewing DOA4 in full-screen, full-resolution glory.

This lobby system is going to be a perfect meeting ground for friends -- a true virtual arcade (where the only game available for play is Dead or Alive -- some Japanese arcades actually have floors devoted to Virtua Fighter, so this isn't too far a stretch). All players can speak to one another through voice chat, of course, and everyone -- those viewing a match up close and those walking around in the lobby -- can hear everything. You can call players out from the match and pester them to hurry up, just as you could if they were right next to you.

Online play is fully customizable, as it was in Dead or Alive Ultimate. You can chose your battle type, adjust life gauge, set number of match points, and set the rules for determining what happens at the end of a match. But the real customizability with DOA4 comes not in the battle, but outside, in the lobby.

If I buy a hard drive from the US or Germany, am I going to get a letter from Mr FedEx asking me for some tax money (alá my PSP)?

Is there less chance in getting taxed if I get it from Germany rather than the US or vice versa?

I would imagine you almost certainly will get taxed regardless of whether its from the US or Germany.

I don't think that you will get charged custom as Germany is part of the EU. I bought a mobile phone of a german ebayer and never got hit with any custom charges.

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

Cheers for all your help LemonJelly (and kamy100), you've been there since day one! I don't think I can wait much longer to be able to save, PGR3 is just killing me. If I hadn't heard about all the power supply problems I'd have left it on for a week non-stop so I didn't lose any progress. As my old driving instructor would have said, "it's facking brilliant". It's like PLAYING Top Gear.

I think I'll end up getting it from Germany then and hoping I don't get stung with any tax, however much they could dream up to charge me. I'll probably do the same with the HD cable as well, widescreen telly or not I saw Perfect Dark on a monitor in town the other day and I'm not missing out on those graphics, daddio.

Re: XBox 360 - Official Thread

This is what it says on the customs website:

Customs duty is not payable on goods bought from countries within the EU. However, VAT is payable (if due) either in the EU country of purchase, or in the UK if the EU supplier is UK VAT registered. But, special rules apply to excise goods ie cigarettes, tobacco alcohol etc and these are explained separately.
