Microsoft Xbox 360

You're loving this aren't you Milanista? :D

Just wait until someone starts talking Welsh, my missus will be all over it.

Yeah, she's one of those sheep that can read, type and log onto forums to translate Welsh for people. Ten years of training but by God it was worth it.

Christ my 360 Elite is getting really really hot when I use it, its not long back from Repairs.... :(

mine does, and my drive makes a loud noise when its in use..

just hope it goes before october, so i can do a straight swap for a falcon one at game :w00t:

It was as predictable as the end of a Michael Bay movie, but it seems that the world will soon be treated to a new Xbox 360 model together with a Blu-ray drive.

According to DigiTimes, quoting sources from Taiwan, "if" Microsoft does decide to incorporate Blu-ray drives into its new 360 then the retail price will be "lower than the corresponding production costs".

Incorporated Blu-ray drives are said to cost £45-50 a pop compared to the £9-10 cost of standard DVD-ROM drives currently built into the 360 and this will represent a hefty increase in production costs for the company.

But rather than pass the cost onto the consumer, Microsoft is expected to suck up the losses so as not to price itself out of the console market, although it seems it could recoup soe losses by selling all their very-soon-to-be redundant HD-DVD drives on eBay for the price of some salted nuts.

Got this message today from a dude on my friends list:

Very Important:

Don't purchase and download anything from Xbox Live Marketplace and don't get Microsoft Points until the problem is fixed. For more information read the topics in Xbox Live Marketplace section in http://forums.xbox.com/

I just bought MS points AND downloaded the COD4 variety Map Pack about an hour ago. Both went without a hitch...

What does this mean for owners of 360s at the moment? Will Microsoft replace the DVD version with the blu-ray version for free?
I would be pissed off if games for 360 started being made on blu-ray discs and I only had a hd-dvd drive in my 360...

Will Microsoft replace the DVD version with the blu-ray version for free?
Yes they will, the day that they let you use any hard drive for game-saves instead of having to pay for a "special" Xbox 360 one, and the day that all 360 accessories work on the PS3 and vice versa - i.e. when hell freezes over.

It is stupid if MS does make a blu-ray 360 and then the games start being made for it while the people who bought it before the introduction of the blu-ray 360 only have the older games on DVDs to play or buy an external blu-ray drive for about £150...

It is extremely stupid yeah, and it will lead to the loss of customers probably. But welcome to the world of business. If it doesn't go down well then the prices will come down but if people buy it because they feel they have no choice (I would, I'm stupid), then they'll sit back and watch the cash roll in.

The thing is you get what you pay for, the 360 has Xbox Live costs (which is wrong admittedly) plus it doesn't have Wifi built in etc. (although I've only ever had trouble when connecting via Wifi personally). But I've not had any trouble with Xbox Live apart from Christmas last year where it went bonkers, and apart from EA servers (which are the same on the PS3).

I'm far happier with my 360 than my PS3, and remember you can pick them up now for just over £150 brand new. Minus the hard drive, but you could even do what my dad does and just use a £30 memory unit (he doesn't download demos or addons which he considers ripoffs, so all he needs is something to put saves on). That's still a great deal for a next-gen console.

The fact is, I wouldn't mind that you can pick and choose different things according to whether you need them or not, but because Microsoft price all of their accessories extortionately (60 fucking quid for a wifi adapter), you just can't do it.The 360 has clearly been designed so Microsoft can rip you off at every opportunity. Things like a quick-charge kit shouldn't even exist if they'd designed the controllers to be like the SIXAXIS. This type of thing stopped the £200 deal from HMV actually being a good deal as far as I'm concerned.

So I'd much rather have it all included and pay a bit more initially if it had things built in like the PS3.

The Wifi adapter you can actually make yourself for £10, there's a link a few pages back but all you need is a bog-standard Wifi dongle and then some software kit that adds a mode to your router, or something.

But saying that, I would never use Wifi for a console when you have a choice in the matter (yes it should be the same as when it's wired but it's most definitely not in my experience), and unfortunately you still have to buy the "special" 360 drives to be able to save your game-saves etc...

OK, we fucking get it, now move on....... fuck me, no one forces anyone to buy anything, all Jack was saying was, for 150 quid, you can play which is now Current Gen games, that was it. For someone who just wants to game, its happy days, you get the lot and can be happy if you dont use Live, or want to DL stuff.

As for wireless gaming, I agree with Jack, I can never trust my connection to stay high, so when gaming online, I plug in a cable. Plus when it comes to it, how do you replace a battery in a SIXAXIS? Everything has a finite charge limit and sure it maybe five years, but Sony have made a console they want to have a lifespan of 10 years.

Sony have said they'll replace batteries for free in the SixAxis as the battery is supposed to last for years (25 comes to mind). I'm sure I read that on Eurogamer ages ago.

Christ, if that's true, that's great.

I wonder what happens if you've got a Japanese DualShock3 though. Judging on the way they ordered eBay to remove them all I'm guessing you'll get a letter saying "our ball, our rules, no replacement for you". I can't get over that, surely it's got to be illegal for them to remove all DualShock3s off eBay, no other company would get away with it.

Nah that wont be true, Batteries lose their life and cells Die everytime you charge it up.... I reckon you will be lucky if it lasts 3 years.

@Matherto yep good point, ive thought about that a lot. With the PS3 (minus the fact the PSN is fucking crap and the game seem to perform better on the 360 including Euro 08) You get everything as standard built in.

What the hell...

My wireless 360 controller is fucked up already... The LB button has stuck and it's not even like it's been dropped, hit, pressed down hard etc.

Will have to try and get MS to replace it... Only had the thing about a week.
