Microsoft Flight Simulator [PC/Xbox]

I am playing this on my XSS and i dont have those problems. Yes game sometimes crash, but i had that problem like 2 or 3 times since it came out.

Btw it is a masterpiece. They nailed it.

I mean, i had a crash only 2 or 3 times for this how long 3+ years since it came out.

And i play a lot.
Still, as a first party, exclusive game, that was released 3 years ago - it should be fully optimised by now and run smooth as butter.
None of the Playstation exclusives ever crash for me. There is no excuse for the state of it.

Love the game and I'm really enjoying my journey around the world, but it's absolutely shocking how shitty it's optimised on series X.
Multiple times already I had Xbox shutting down on its own with a message after restart that it was overheating.
No other game ever did this, have it all dust free, but it still does it randomly. Sometimes I can fly for hours, sometimes its shutting down after 20mins. Regardless whether it's populated area, or not, it's all just random.
Since it's supposed to be one of the flagships of Xbox - it's a bit of a disgrace and makes me want to delete it all. Don't even want to know how it runs on series S.
Also - later this year MSFS 2024 is coming out. Bigger and better.
Scared to think how they will have this running on Xbox.
In general - looking at all the exclusives and smash (s)hits like Starfield - I'm starting to think that Xbox X/S is a wasted generation.

I wouldn't say this is really an Xbox problem.
It doesn't exactly run amazing on PC either.

I have a 4090 and still can't have it maxed out.

I'm running everything on ultra on a 3060Ti, 60fps at 1920x1080. Only need to lower some settings when I'm flying with big commercial planes. You should be able to run the sim maxed out 4k on a 4090. Strange.

I will need to have a look at it again.
My GamePass has expired and probably won't subscribe again now for a while and also not buying the game with the new one being released this year.

But do remember that playing at 4K not everything was on Ultra to achieve 60FPS and some things were even on medium.

The game is incredibly demanding and just really hope they up the graphics again for 2024 and absolutely destroy my PC like FS 2020 did when that was released.
However given that it is still being released for the Series S makes me think that it will remain exactly the same with just a couple of extra features.

Yes, I don't think they'll do major updates in graphics. They still rely on Bing for the maps, maybe they'll provide more detailed buildings?

I'm excited about the upcoming release. According to them there will be graphical and performance improvements. The current game already beautiful and to me its one of the few this generation that still blows my mind. See below for some of the improvements vs MSFS2020

- Will Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 have improved loading times?

One of the biggest priorities for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is to improve the simulator’s data management. One of the major changes to the simulator’s architecture being made is using Cloud streaming to help ensure that the client becomes thin. When users load into the sim, only the textures, meshes, and map data that they need will be downloaded to avoid unnecessary bandwidth and disk space usage.

This will keep the minimum specifications of the sim as low as it is now and will also reduce update and load times.

- Will there be airliners in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024?

Yes! We have not yet announced the full list of aircraft available in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, but it will include several new airliners. We are certain that players will be very excited when they see the full list of available aircraft.

- Will the missions and activities in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 be like video game missions?

The missions and activities that are being included in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 are authentic re-creations of those performed in real-live aviation fields. We are working with a variety of organizations — such as firefighting, search and rescue, and coast guard organizations — across the planet to make these activities as accurate as possible.

- Will there be improvements to the core simulator technology in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024?

The development team is improving almost every aspect of the simulator. Some examples include:

Improved multithreading to improve performance
Faster download, load, and installation speeds
Improved aerodynamics and physics simulation
Improved aircraft systems including electrical, pneumatic, fuel, and hydraulics
New failure and wear & tear system
Deeper and wider avionics systems
Cockpit tablet available by default
Worldwide Vertical Obstacles
Worldwide Oil Rigs
Worldwide Glider Airports
Worldwide Heliports
Will there be changes to the scenery and terrain in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024?

- We are improving the global digital twin in three different ways:

Static World:
Improved ground details
3D tessellated ground materials
Enhanced 3D trees with greatly increased diversity
Improved cliffs

Living World:
Animal herds and migrations
Worldwide live ship traffic
Accurate live air traffic (models, liveries)
Improved vehicle traffic
More diverse character models
Dynamic World:
Full seasons
Aurora Borealis / Aurora Australis
Tornados
Storms

It will be interesting to see FS2024 but I am on the sceptical side.
The game can probably be improved on the simulation/flying side.

But this is where I am sceptical, how are they going to improve the graphics of the game.
It already looks superb and the current version of the game already pushes the consoles to the absolute limit:
Xbox X - 30FPS @1440 upscaled to 4K - And doesn't run at PC ultra settings (similar to medium/high)
Xbox S - 30FPS @1080
So really don't know how they are going to make the game better graphically.

Most likely will try gamepass for a month when it is released to see if there is any difference.

Good interview, I hope they deliver as it seems pretty ambitious. Really looking forward to this, been having a great time getting flights here and there either on the XBSX and xCloud. More server based data and less on the client, hope their servers can handle it

Flight Simulator 2024's huge ambition

  • The new game aims to double down on its use of "topography data imported from Bing maps and processed by Microsoft's Azure's AI" to "take this technology to a new level of detail." Primarily using satellite and aerial imagery, digital elevation map, LIDAR scans, and machine learning for increased accuracy and to correct bugs.
  • Players can now exit their plane and explore on foot: "You can now exit the plane, walk around, in 2024. You can literally walk your favorite mountain path to your favorite hut in the mountains. Sit on the lake. See the sunset. It is truly a digital twin you can absorb."
  • MSFS 2024 will use new "thin client architecture" which aims to keep the install size down and stop it ballooning to as much as 500GB like MSFS 2020 did. Neumann states at launch the new game will be "50 GB or less, but with tons more data, because we are offloading more to the cloud."

A few comparison slides to showcase the update in graphics and lighting. Looks absolutely incredible. Can't wait to try the new airliners
I'd have to say this game (and 2020) is one of the few that for me looks truly next gen

Hope everything they have showed and promised is true

I am very curious how my Series S will handle this and if it's gonna be playable :D
This is the curious thing for me too.
I really don't know how the performance graphics are going to be improved on the Xbox.
They are already pushed to the absolute limit by this game and FS 2024 is surely going to be more demanding.

Won't be able to play the game though until December as also want to try Indiana Jones so will get a Game Pass for the month of December.

As I understand, they improved performance vs 2020. It's supposed to data stream the locations vs having it render locally on the hard drive. In theory it should run the same as it does now (not on the level of detail as a PC obviously, but if you are ok with how it runs 2020 it should be the same experience as the new one).

I wouldn't know about custom aircraft as those can be a little more demanding.

7. Xbox Series S/X Resolution

  • Question: What resolution and performance targets are expected for Xbox consoles, especially Series S?
  • Answer: On the Series S, the target resolution is 1080p, and on the Series X, it’s 4K.

8. Xbox Memory and Performance Improvements

  • Question: Will the memory-related stability issues seen in 2020 persist in 2024, or have optimizations been made for Xbox consoles?
  • Answer: Significant optimizations have been made for Xbox. The new GDK (Game Development Kit) provides us with an additional 500MB of memory, and we’ve optimized the system to access 2GB of virtual memory on both Series S and X. This improves stability and performance by loading only the required assets into memory, such as the level-of-detail (LOD) models and texture MIP maps for what’s currently visible, reducing overall memory usage.
