I kind of see Slobber's point; what he's saying is, if you're racist, homophobic or whatever, but you don't go around killing black people and gay people, then you're not an evil human being. You're just a stupid one. My parents are both of those things, and they're not doing any harm. But saying that, they're not running around saying to people's faces that "if I had things my way you'd all be shot".
From the other end of the spectrum though, there's insults that will hurt us more than all of the other insults. You could call me anything you wanted to and I'd take it as a joke but if you call me an X (I won't say it because there's a few cunts on this forum who think they're hilarious), then I'll be upset. What Michael was saying was not said in a jokey way, he was saying it to insult the guy as much as possible, which is fucked up.
But, to be objective, I suppose it's strange that if you call someone e.g. a geeky fuckwit, and an N-word, they could both find it equally offensive but only one of those situations is illegal. Which is very strange. I watched something ages ago, I can't think of what it was about, but it mentioned the law behind a "hate crime". I'm not a big political person so sorry if I'm making a fool of myself, but it seems wrong that if you call a black person an N-word, you can get yourself into a lot of legal trouble, but if you call someone a twat, even if you call them something very nasty and threatening (without making a specific threat), then legally they're doing "nothing wrong". It seems to me, again correct me if I'm being too politically stupid here, that black people have a lot of protection against verbal insults and white people who are "different" from eachother have very little protection at all, if any.
Which surely causes more of a divide?
