Mass Effect 2

Fucking shitty checkpoint system!

Just trying to help Samara find the killer, spent a good 10-15 mins working my way through the base and died at the gunship, and it takes me right the way fucking back to having to question the detective for permission to enter the crime scene!

:CURSE:

Pile of fucking shit and got to waste my time doing stuff I've already done! What's the point in the flashing "Saving game" if it doesn't actually take you back to that point if you die?!

It's because you've failed the mission - it restarts the mission again, effectively taking you back to the start. If you press load (X-blue) when you die rather than continue you can reload the auto-save, which will take you back to where it last auto-saved rather than back to the beginning.

Or, as I did throughout my play-through, create your own saves, that way you can press X (blue) and load your own save at the point you want (note you can't save during battles).

Yeah, as above. X to load a checkpoint or autosave works much better.

I think I'm on L35 at the moment. Does anyone have any tips or advice for speeding up the planet scanning process? I've recently researched and upgraded the scanner so it's a bit quicker, but it's still annoying spending ages scanning planets for minerals.

Oh, and the Battle rifle which fires in short bursts, it says it can also be pulsed for rapid fire. How do I do this? The 5 round burst isn't effective enough. Also, sniper rifle is awesome.

I tried it last night, only played for 40 minutes, and already found it to be the same as the first one. Some nice concepts but overall a quite bland experience. I hate arriving some base or city that consists only in linear corridors/ paths and only 5 people living there, each one with their specific moment in the quest. I find it quite "old" in terms of design. But maybe that's why people like it? It's all so driven...

Besides, all reviews are glorifying the presentation of the game and I find it rather clumpsy. Not to talk about the first cinematics where there's that "illusive man" smoking and the cigarrette is not even put on his mouth, but some inches below, while his lips move as if the cigar was there. I mean, a glitch like that in almost the first animation of the game? Strange... I run it on a PC, by the way, with all graphics maxed out at HD resolution.

well, gonna get a 360 again to play that game. enjoying it a lot on my PC but i hate playing on the computer :P

I also find the new battle rifle less effective, would prefer to use it in semi-auto rather than burst mode as it should then be more accurate.......

Cheers mate. IMO, the battle rifle appears to be more effective against the enemies, but it seems harder to use and far less efficient than the standard fare rifle. I'm always reloading the damn thing, too. I suppose that goes with the gun, though.

Just tap the fire trigger it should be faster and more accurate.

I can't enjoy this game without biotic powers. The heavy pistol is the best weapon in my opinion since I never use sniperriffles.

With Overload, Warp and Heavy pistol + Armor Piercing Ammo, you can destroy all protections. Then just switch to your riffle and finish the job (or use Throw, Push, or any other offensive biotic).

Finished the game today. Overall a bland experience. Levels are so lineal that even my house corridor seems to have more branches. Other characters are just ok, but missions are quite lame on the gameplay-part. Good to have some different endings / paths, but the script wasn't that good either and it's full of clichés.

Besides, they have ripped out all rpg elements, inventory and side quests are for dumbs.

BUT, having said that, the game is accessible and easy and you can play it at short bursts and has filled some hours until the arrival of Heavy rain.

Overall it's a fairly good game because of some of the production values and because they have put girls with boobies in it. A rather forgottable game at long term, nothing special about it. Can't understand the ammount of hype this game is getting, even technically it's full of glitches!

Far from the old good KOTOR, but at the core it's still the same formula. They better get something new for the next one.

I would give this game a 8.

PS: I hated planet harvesting. How boring it is? Who was the genius that decided to put that in the game as it is? I upgraded the radar technology but made no change at all. Horrible attempt of putting more "content" in a cheap way.

I just completed this and have to say I really enjoyed this. I was a fan of the first, but I think this is just as good, if not better.

Love the long term story and loved the epic final to this. I will 100% buy Mass Effect 3.

I think this is one of my games on the 360, and its offered me more enjoyment/involvement than RDR!

The new, PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 will look better than the original on Xbox 360 - that's because BioWare's using the Mass Effect 3 engine to power it.

"One of the first things you're going to see is improved graphics," said game producer Jesse Houston on the BioWare podcast.

"We actually created the engine for Mass Effect 3 and used that to make Mass Effect 2 PS3. So we took the content, the story and all of the other assets that made up Mass Effect 2 and we put it into the Mass Effect 3 engine.

"We've also gone ahead and made the experience much more solid on PS3," he added. " So for example the controls are geared towards the PS3 controller [although] you can switch it back to the old Xbox [layout] if you like. Other things like planet scanning have been improved; we've rolled up all of the patches; done a whole bunch of bug fixing."

Mass Effect 2 on PS3 will also bundle premium DLC such as recent add-on Lair of the Shadow Broker. What's more, being on Blu-ray means having more storage space, so there's no need to swap game discs half-way through the emotional space rollick.

Note that Mass Effect 1 will not make its way to PS3. To cope with that, BioWare has made an interactive comic that tells the first game's story and let's you make the big decisions within it. They then import into Mass Effect 2 and shape your world - the same way an imported saved game worked on Xbox 360.

Houston also mentioned that Mass Effect 2 was finished on PS3 and on course for its January 21st European release.

Just got Mass Effect 2 for free...£4.97 in currys with a free £5 voucher...will get cracking on it soon good to hear it's sounding pretty fun to play.

I'm considering getting again on the PS3 for the trophies, the improved graphics/engine and little extras. Also, I'd like to play from the start with the bionic power again.

This is without doubt the best game I've played since I began playing on my SEGA 8-bit ages ago!

Everything from sound fx and music, shooting, atmosphere, quests, free roam, different outcomes, etc etc make this a must buy for every PS3 user.
