Manchester United Thread

hard to pick a MOM my pref would be carrick distribtued it really well and scored two brilliant goals in a hours work

well, I saw all the fighting at the start before the match, standing from next to the megastore watching across at it all kicking off, stupid idiots but anyway, lets concentrate on the match shall we

you know, I'm seriously struggling to figure out what was better, the awe inspiring, amazing performance, or the electrifying, spine-tingling atmosphere. I was there against Blackburn when the second half was the loudest I'd ever heard fans to be, it was awesome, but tonight was just on another level completely, you could sense the edgyness, not only because we HAD to win, but becuase of the fighting and all that aswell, and my god it was so, so good to be there and soak it all up. Loud doesn't even begin to describe it.

and then to the performance, there's not a lot you can really say other than breathtaking. beforehand everyone I talked to figured we might get a win by a goal, or similar, but fucking hell, 7-1! I don't think any subsequent match I see will match the performance that the team gave tonight.

there's nothing quite like a Champions League night is there?

As well as you lot played, Roma were a fucking disgrace, worse than PSV last week!

Amazing goal they scored though, it showed an angle from behind the player, so much curver and he didnt even look!

oh yeah, all eight goals were excellent in one way or another

we were shit second half weren't we!? only scored 3 and conceded 1, terrible! sell the lot of 'em!

Why is it whenever we hammer someone or give them a good beating peoplw seem to think its beacause the other side were shit. Maybe we were that good that we made them look shit.

i was thinking that mate, we made them play shit cus we never gave them time on the ball, smith was chasing the back 4 all game

A few people were moaning (not on this forum) when they found out Smith was playing.
I knew before kick off he was gonna be the one thats gonna bring the fight back into our team. A great performance from him. He's definately staying in my prefered starting XI.

we made them play shit because SAF know sfrom the last game thatRoma were vulnerable from wide football and counter attacking.
They tend to fiddle a lot in front of the box before triggering.
So the alds (especially after the pompey game) exploited that part fo Romas game to the fullest.

I'm in work and still grinning like a Cheshire cat! Well done United - you done us proud last night :)

it doesn't happen every day to see what we saw last nith, uh?
i really feel for roma players.... being down 0 - 4, in manchester, with an entire half still to play..... brrrrr

i'd say both of them, mate, when 2 teams similar (talking about quality) like manu and roma face each others, and the result is a 7-1, of course it means that one of them was absolutely perfect, and the other absolutely shit.

manu pressing was for sure a big factor, talking about roma's performance, so man utd has his merits. but i already saw roma playing under pressure, and it's not like yesterday.
it happens sometime that a lot of players (the majority) of the same team just loose their focus on the game. Players minds just don't follow their legs on the pitch and stay in the dressing room.
when this happens and your team is playing against palermo or tottenham, u may loose by 1 or 2 goals..... but if this happens when u're facing the strongest team of the year... then u might even loose by 5,6,or 7 goals.

i saw roma players making unforgivable individuals mistakes in the passing game. so many wrong easy passes... even when they weren't pressed by manu players (and that's the reason why i say that they played shit and roma is the first responsible of yesterday's disaster).

btw, even if i feel for roma (of course) i'm happy for man utd. they proved to be the best team in europe this year, and they deserve the cup..... even if i still have that strange feeling about liverpool winning the Cl).

P.s. the action that ended in alan smith goal was pure pleasure. :D even there there was a big mistake by chivu, but, in the end, every goal always born from a defensive mistake.

good luck for the next stage guys.... if i were a man utd supporter, i won't be worried at all by milan or bayern ;)

Heard the same comments when liverpool beat barcelona, and even in the home game we could/should have been 2/3-0 up at HT. Its balancing each other out, with some ridiculous statements being flung about after a great win. It always happens

Best team in europe? Dont make me laugh! They were poor against lille and fortunate in the away game that roma didnt punish the 10 men. And in the groupstage after the 1st 3 games they werent impressive either. Im not going to say there is a "best team" atm as i think most, actually all of the semi's finalist (probably liverpool and either ac or bayern) are pretty equal imo, especially in europe. Dont htink there is much of a difference between the english teams (liverpool have shown in cup matches that they can beat both manu and chelsea and should have won both the home matches against them this season, and probably the away match at chelsea) and bayern and ac arent gonne be underdogs against manu either. Having won amazing/great/etc result against a team that had a shocker (which is likely to be a combination of manu being excellent and them having an off day) doesnt mean they are the best team.

mate, u can't expect a team to play always on the same level. each team has his bright and dark moments during a season (look at roma yesterday), but we can't deny that, looking at man utd this season, they were the most consistant team in europe. of course this doesn't mean that they will win the cup or the premiership. liverpool are tough team and they showed they can be very dangerous in a single match. the same goes for chelsea..(milan and bayern aren't on the same level of english teams this year imo).

and of course i'm not saying this coz of yesterday match. yesterday match doesn't mean anything, talking about manchester utd strenght this year, as yesterday man utd almost had no opponent.
To evaluate manu performances this season, i prefere to talk about last week match against roma. coz last week manu was playing football against a football team (roma yesterday wasn't even a football team, they didn't play football)....
to evaluate manu performances this season, i prefere to talk about what they did till now in the premiership ;)

Although United were incredible last night, I still fancy Liverpool or Chelski to win the big one.

Precisely, in europe, and by europe i mean european competition /CL, liverpool with chelsea have probably been the more consistent. With liverpool's only competitive loss being the 1-0 against barce, which they should have won in the 1st half. In the prem manu have been the best, but we are talking about the CL, which has shown over the years that its not always the best team over the season that wins it. But seeing from your post you mean europe with regard to domestic competitions. In that case manu have been the best in england, with england having the "best" league this year in europe.

Although you could, from another perspective, argue that chelsea have been the "best" team in england this year. Mainly due to the fact that theyve never really looked inform so far and are still so close, whereas manu have been in form for most of the season (with a dip the past couple of weeks being covered by some fortunate wins). Which would mean that if chelsea had been inform they would have been top. But thats a totally different argument and prety pointless as its the table that decides the winners in the league ;). But im sure you get what i mean.

Where do I begin to tell this story? I literally fell sick after the game, lacking of sleep and running a flu but it was ALL worth it.Darren Fletcher is my MOTM.I wouldnt trade him with anyone last night,he was like a man possessed. He was EVERYWHERE,getting stuck in.Never seen him play like that before. The inclusion of Alan Smith was the perfect foil for Rooney,Ronaldo and Giggs.AS Roma was not even there last night.Nobody looked like they were even trying, except maybe for Daniele De Rossi, who rightfully got a goal.Mickey Carrick was on drugs and had scoring boots on.2 goals Ronaldo is the current fastest footballer on earth,he leaves trails of himself really.Rooney cant score in Europe? 2 goals in 2 games.Smith back with a goal and a superb all round performance. It was a perfect night.Bring on AC Milan or Bayern.

indeed i got it, mate. and i agree with u on may things. I think man utd showed something more in the whole season (talking abouth both competitions domestic and european). U say that also chelsea and liverpool had (a lot) of very good games during the champions league.... and that's true ;). And maybe, if we just consider the Cl, liverpool was even more consistant than man utd... Talking about the premiership, u (correctly) say that chelsea truly deserve a mention, as they were really unlucky this year (talking about big injuries)..... and that's also true...... but, u know, being the best, often means also being the luckiests, so...

afterall, football is not a perfect science... each statement can be debeatable, as everybody has his own likes ;)

p.s. talking about the leagues, i don't think that premiership is the best in europe (not even this year).
premiership is for sure the most followed league, the most sold league (talking about tv rights), but this has to do with many factors, not only football quality (management, stadia, supporters....).
talking about tecnique, i think that premiership is (this year) on the same level of la liga (serie a isn't as good as la liga and premiersip this year, talking about tehcnique).

talking about tactical knowledge, i think serie a is still the most advanced league in the world. in serie a also the last teams still play football.... can't say the same about la liga, ligue 1 and premiership.

in the end, when u compare two leagues u have to compare 40 teams (20 engllish and 20 italian teams for example), and if u do this, well, i think serie a is still on a higher level (but i'm just talking about football quality, coz if u consider the whole package, management, stadia, supporters, premiership is by far the best league in europe).
but if u consider just top teams, i'd say that english top teams were better than spanish, italian, french and german top teams this year. :)

Well what can I say... I could not believe my eyes I had to keep looking at that big screen to see if this was really happening... 7-1? i had to keep saying to the missus is it really 7-1? :) I think she got fed up! Her turn tonight, could PSV pull off a complete miracle to piss off Antred? :)
