Manchester United Thread

I love english papers. Despite wining the cup in dominant fashion, that couldn't possibly make headlines, instead we get to hear about Ruud the unused sub. Sigh...

thought attacking wise we were top drawer, if Ruud had been in probably picked up a couple more. Ronaldo/Park/Saha all missed pretty good chances to strike in the area in the first half before the goal, in fact all three of them more or less missed the ball, I blame the pitch ;)

Midfield was a bit crap, thought we mainly just omitted it. Seemed like lots of long balls up to Rooney and Saha and then work from there, works against Wigan, probably won't against pool/chelski and other stronger teams. Hopefully we can channel this into a good run and get 2nd spot, and Ruud end up as top scorer. Not an ideal season, but you've got to take what you can get!

Ronaldo is getting better and better and using the ball much more efficiently and even tracking back now. Im really pleased he is finding his feet again, you could see how much it meaned to him after he scored.

I'm really happy for the lads namely whom had their first taste of silverware for this club,Rooney,Saha,Ronaldo and Park just to name a few.Saha made Sir Alex look like the genius he is by having a hand at all the goals, brilliant stuff by the Frenchman. The decision to drop Ruud was somehow justified and yeah I agree,Ruud has got to keep his cool and professionalism. However,I'm afraid its not just a wise managerial decision by Sir Alex,I believe its more than just that.I dont really know the truth but I hope its not something that would make either one leave the club.Allez Allez United!!

You are right - we bought Saha in the January window of 2004.

The fact that he didnt come on later got me a bit worried. I understand why Saha was chosen ahead of Ruud but why bring on someone like Evra and not Ruud?
I hope this only drives him further to score more goals and prove he isnt someone you leave on the bench.

Yeah, Ruud was clearly about to come on before Saha netted the second. Sadly I fear that SAF was forced to sub in Vidic and Evra to show off to his American bosses. Look at the new signings, see how I use them in this important game kind of thing.

Still Ruud shouldn't sulk, I'm sure all the press just caught him at bad times, he was celebrating the goals like everyone else. Did anyone else see that was Saha's 11th goal this season? How did he manage to sneak up to that total? That means between Rooney, Saha and V. Nistlerooy we've got a serious tally going!

Whats all the fuss about, no-one has a divine right to be in the team.

If you perform week in week out like Ruud then you earn that divine right to be in the team. Saha for me still fluffs too many chances and for him to be on the bench wouldnt have been as damaging to his morale and confidence as it is to Ruud.

but it proved the genius of sir alex once again, saha with a goal and an assist on the first goal... he could have been MOTM as well... ruud needs to chill

If it was any normal game then it would have been ok. But playing in a cup final is like a reward that Ruud deserved for being such an important player for us.

yeh exactly.

I mean you can understand why Saha started, but at the same time you can understand why Ruud was upset. The final has become the highlight of Utd's season, and to find out in the morning that you're not gonna start must of been quite a blow.

He seemed happy enough when the goals were going in, but surely he thought 'Sir Alex will put me on any minute now...'

Im sure though it wouldve been very weird if he wasnt upset, surely you want Ruud to be upset if he missed the final?

On a good note, I though Cristiano was magnificent. Was a great match to watch, although I would've preferred Camara to have taken his chance to make it more of a game ;)

Its been widely reported that Sir Alex will break the bank this summer to recruit Juan Roman Riquelme. He is the player identified to rule the midfield for next season.Rumour has it that this info has leaked from behind closed doors at OT.The lack of ball possession in midfield and failure from setpieces has been a problem for us this season.Riquelme will instantly improve those weak areas for us.The latest evidence to this strong rumour was when Rangers hosted Villareal at the Ibrox with Sir Alex & co in attendance.

What do your guys think about this,I guess its true but whom would the other world class midfielder be? Vannizzle, any insider news mate?

...From a Liverpool supporters perspective if you mancs bought Juan Roman Riquelme I'd be truly pissed off, the Argentinean is just different class he made a midfield of Gerrard, Lampard etc. look average

Whats really great about him is that he's a defensive midfielder AND an attacking midfielder at the same time. A box to box player who is also great at set pieces.

I think we found our man...

Yeah if he's not injured, hasn't he missed the good majority of the season? He was absolutely top drawer against England, and I presume knows Heinze fairly well. But then, look at how Veron fit in, is Riquelme physical enough for the Prem?

How old is he, not bad right? I'm not quite sold, he doesn't strike me as a great fit, especially when you see the togetherness of the current squad during celebrations and what not. Personally I'd still take Kevin Nolan, or maybe both?

Heard rumour Ballack is going ot Chelski? Can't believe that, who will he replace? And whoever is now lowest in the pecking order, can we get them at United? (Essien/Gudjohnsen/Obi Mikel - oh yeah what ever happened to him?)

Veron had so many expectations - and he was class & proven it in Serie A. I think perhaps there will be more pressure placed upon Riquelme cos of the current state Man U's midfield is in.

Riquelme was a bit of a flop in Barca right? Maybe the big clubs ain't his thing?

Its absolutly stupid to suggest Riquelme would be the same as Veron. The only thing similar is their nationality and positions. Thier mentality is totally different. Riquelme is alot stronger and works much harder than say veron. And yes he would be expensive, but if you want world class talent, you have to splash out once in a while.

What are you talking about? Barcelona didnt give him a chance, most of the time it was him coming off the bench. And of course there is going to be pressure for any player who joins United regardless wether the midfield is weak or strong. Imo it will give riquelme dominion in midfield and chance to be the main general, since there is no other player currently at united with his stature.

I reckon nationality has got a big thing to do with it. Apart from the select few, south americans have found it difficult to adjust in England (is it the weather? language? food? :D ) in comparison to Italy/Spain.

The Argentinian league is as physical as the Premiership imo - but what I'm saying is that there are other factors to take into consideration.
