Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

Actually, 4-3-3/4-5-1 was actually used FOR europe and has been the case for a few seasons. But then we started using that in the Premiership too.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

It wasnt the bad part of 4-4-2 that gave Fulham two goals but Rios lazy defending. In all honesty if we had played with the usual 4-3-3/4-5-1 i couldnt see us getting a win but thats the beauty of 4-4-2 that it will get us goals and wins even if our defending is lacking.

Are you dumb or something? Carlos is there for a reason. He assists and influences Sir Alex's decisions. He has obviously convinced Sir Alex that 4-3-3 is a good formation.

No, I believe you are the dumb one. Who hired Queiroz? Who decided to listen to and implement his suggestions? Fergie is not some moron who can't think for himself.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

I agree. Fergie can see for himself if things are working or not and he has the power to change them.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

Well if Fergie was able to see himself, he would have saw it a looooooooooooooong time ago. And why did this start when Carlos arrived?
Coincidence? I think not.

Yep, rio had an absolute shocker, schoolboy defending for both goals, actually i think even schoolboy footballers wouldn't have done what he did there, seriously, i really don't know what he was doing.

He's been poor and looked lazy and uninterested for some time now, he needs to buck up his idea's soon.

Other than that we played really well, park/giggs/van/rooney were great and we always looked dangerous going forward.

Second half was quieter all around but we defended better and both sides still had some decent chances.

One of the best games i've seen this season for sure.

Also, i was shocked to see us playing 4-4-2 after CQ's comments i posted from the mirror today, maybe they really were taken (a lot) out of context ;)

Or maybe Fergie finally gave him a good slapping.

I was shocked and chuffed to see 4-4-2 today, it really was nice seeing park and giggs attacking the flanks we looked so dangerous(pity park didnt get on scoresheet). One thing though i think we should play 4-4-2 at home and 4-3-3 away maybe that may work.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

So what you're trying to say Rune is that if Arsenal or Chelsea change tactics and start to play poorly the fans would blame Pat Rice or Seve Clarke?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

hahaha, either way, the coaching staff does have some influence, but i think that Fergie is the one thatmakes the final decision!!! but i do see that fergie trusts carlos more after he came back from Real...and maybe that can be a reason why we started using 4-3-3 in the premiership and it costed us!!! but either way, we won today!!!

but letting in 2 goals...hm.....little dangerous!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

BBC's running a story about Ruud's agent saying he's thinking of leaveing next year. I guess he'll be up there at 30, but he certainly looks pretty fit at the moment. Given that he has a contract til 2008, he would certainly cost a pretty penny, perhaps we could bring in 3 or 4 quality players with funds from him, but can you replace ruud? Everyone talks up Torres, but I don't think he's near Ruud's level yet. Other than that, Eto'o isn't leaving, there's no one in the prem, lets hope fergie has some plans!

Next week will probably see a lot of speculation about Keane's replacement, I heard Smith played well yesterday, I'm wondering if it times to sit Fletcher and bring on Park in a mroe central position...not sure how he defends, but certainly can run all over the , ahem, park!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

I still rate RVN....but he hasn't been the same since his injury. Maybe it'll be best for both parties if he moves...especially as he is nearing 30.

You've got good enough strikers but I guess you can use the cash to buy a replacement for Keane.

No but in Man Utd's case, its pretty obvious that Carlos came up with the idea of using 4-3-3. Notice how hes the only one say that 4-2-2 is dead? Notice how that style was only put into use when he was around? Notice how he's trying to emulate Portugal, his HOMELAND?
And just a few days after Carlos again said that 4-4-2 is dead, we use 4-4-2. So obviously, going back to 4-4-2 wasnt his idea.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

I noticed that Park can also play DMF in PES. So who knows.

Park mainly played DMF for the Korean NT in his younger days and also for his first club, Kyoto Purple Sanga... I believe he hasn't played there in a while, but he certainly CAN play in the central midfield... I don't really see Fergie trying him out there, though. I think he wants to keep him strictly as a winger.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

I can see park doing scholes job.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

Well not exactly Scholes' job but playing as a attacking central midfielder.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

well isnt scholes job to play as attacking central midfielder?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

Yeah but I mean we cant expect Park to do for the team what Scholes does. They are different type of players. Its like saying that Rooney is Ruud's replacement when clearly they're different players playing in the same position.
Park can play in Scholes' position but not do his job. I think your wording got me confused.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

well wouldnt it be cool to play 4-4-2 with smith park, giggs and ronaldo all playing in the midfield? it would be very exciting. Notice Ronaldo got dropped? Im glad coz he wasnt playing very well for last few games and hopefully will show him that he aint guarenteed place in team and hopefully he will start playing for the team instead of himself! Do you guys think we will finally stick with 4-4-2 from now on? I really hope so coz i really loved the game saturday and im sure we will score lots of goals.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

Completely agree with you post.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

Yeh i agree rocky, definately more entertaining games this week, the united match being especially so, hope that continues (especially with us, altho hopefully with a better defence :P).

Also did anyone see smith got picked in the england squad ? On bbc he was listed as being picked in the midfield, quite a shock i must say.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

Is he actually gonna get a game in midfield for England?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Graveson to join in Jan?

But he's a nice alternative to consider. I think England have a very young and promising team, and Smith is a very good player that could be very useful in the midfield. The problem is that Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham... don't leave much space there. Why did Scholesy retire from the pross? He could still be in and do great! Smith will have to be a midfield replacement or the third (fourth?) striker. Only injuries can let him get a place instead of David, Steve or Frank.

well out of the three only gerrard is any good at tackling so smith has that in his favour, but thats about it IMO.

Scholsey retired because he was tired of being played out of position and then being slated in the media because he wasnt playing to his usual standard....

As he's been doing in all but 1 game for us this season =/

He's been far too deep and its making him look much worse than he is imo.

In that one game where he was allowed to get forward a lot more, he did much better, except he looked rather rusty in front of goal. I think if he could play his usual role people would change their opinions a bit, but rooney likes to play there too so..
