Bebe for £8m? An unknown player who hadn't tested himself in the top league in Portugal?

And besides his good form recently, Berbatov has hardly lit your team up for just under £31m either?

Berbatov has more talent in his toe than Carroll though and whilst Bebe agreed is expensive he's a young player and worst case scenario we could flog him for 4-5M.

Bebe = poor buy, and probably some scandal to do with agents/ Quieroz and Fergie. Not a relevant example.

Given they're now in the same price range, is there anyone on the planet that would take Andy Carroll over Dimitar Berbatov for their CF position? Just mental.

Forget Berbatov's recent amazing form, what's his record at United? Surely it's better to have a 22 year old English striker with talent and lots of potential than Berbatov (who's 29 or so I'm guessing?) and hasn't exactly lit United on fire since arriving?

There have been plenty of 22 year old English players that have scored c. 10 goals in the premier league, and gone on to nothing.

I don't think he's a bad player. I don't think he's on the same pitch as Zidane, Tevez, Berbatov, Rooney, Villa, Ibrahimovich, Eto'o. And that's what he's just been valued at.

Added to that he's a couple drinks and an insult away from jail time, that's a massive risk to take.

His temperament is definitely questionable, that's a bit of a worry for me. Hopefully Kenny can rein him in though but fair point.

Interesting question posed by ROM on twitter: Should Torres be allowed to play against United in the match that was scheduled for December 12th?

I mean, they're already gaining a big advantage due to the timing of it (between our Arsenal and Liverpool matches, not to mention the state their team was in at that point) but they may also get the boost of having Luiz and Torres play - neither of whom would have been eligible had it gone ahead on its scheduled date.

I hate the January window. It should only be allowed if teams can prove that due to injury they can't field a sufficient team.

That's a bit silly, you could say player A was injured so he shouldn't play.

Yeah, but it's not in the spirit of 'every team plays each other before the window, and after the window' which is the way it's designed.

Definitely injuries happen, but this is different. The 25 man squad that Chelsea had to name to play United on December 12th is different from the 25 man squad they'll name on March.

I'm talking from a 'spirit of the law' point of view here.

When a game is rescheduled, you can't account for who should/could've played and who will play as different dates, different morals, different personnel.

It just so happens that is how it is rescheduled, and they got some new faces. IF we made a signing of Torres' caliber instead of Chelsea, will we say its unfair to play him? Who knows, maybe Torres will be a complete flop at Chelsea...

Valencia should be back for us, Rooney should be on form by then so its not that bad. but Torres getting service by Chelsea to constantly run at us is slightly worrying no doubt:ANX:

So for example, if Rooney, Berbatov, Nani (or whoever) just so happened to have signed for United in the transfer window, would a United fan still say the same thing?
I bet United have signed somebody after the season started (including back in the pre transfer window days) and games have been rescheduled due to Cups or whatever! Anybody say anything then?? I don't believe they would have.

What an absolute ridiculous question to pose!
It is what it is. Swings and roundabouts. United are supposedly the best team this season so go out and prove it and don't worry about the opposition.

Only reared my head in here to see what other shit some people say (as some have crystal balls allegedly) and this made me laugh!

It's not surprising, tbh. He's not been the same player since his ankle injury in 2007.

All the best to him though, he's been a great servant to us over the last couple of decades.

In all seriousness and respect, you've got to give the guy applause really. Obviously I can't stand him whatsoever, goes without saying, but you can't knock his achievements and what he's won and done for United.

Just hope he doesn't get a job on Sky now, urgh.

I seriously doubt he'll ever get a job on Sky, he's far too one-eyed and biased for it. Unless he was a pundit for the odd Utd game here and there.

In the last 5 or 6 years, his attitude really reminded me of Gattuso - full of love and passion for the club.

Please go into punditry, just so there's a single United voice in amongst the masses. (to be fair, as long as it's not a United/ Pool match, he'd probably be really good. His world cup stuff was top class)

I have a terrible feeling about tomorrow.

Has the ability to turn out like 03/04 when we played them and let Kenny fucking Miller score against us. Pretty sure we were fairly comfortably top of the league at that point back then as well.
