Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Good win that and quite good to see the likes of Macheda, Anderson and Rafael get minutes.

Bebe then - YouTube - Bebe Vs Scunthorpe Away

1.42 - I've seen that before! Great balance and strength in his running when hes running with the ball. Looks to have a strong right foot too, Hopefully he can get a couple of sub appearances in the coming weeks and hopefully he impresses enough to start a game.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Looks like we're gonna have to go with Owen and Berba for the next game. We cant afford to play Rooney in the state that he's in.
And Bebe needs another bench appearence. He looked promising.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Doesn't Rooney have an absurd record against Bolton too? He'll definitely play with Berba imo.

Big q's for me are RB (Rafael didn't exactly shine last night) and CB (Rio looked okay). I expect same as Liverpool with Rio in for Evans.

surely you're joking about owen playing ahead of rooney? i'm not attacking you but do you actually rate owen?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'd actually agree with starting Owen ahead of Rooney.

Him and Berba should work well, and we can bring Rooney on the pitch before Owen gets injured.

Rooney needs a kick up the arse to be honest, dropping him will make him know he's not invincible, and he's playing like shite as it is, give Owen reward for his two goals and decent performance.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah I'm a bit undecided about it to be honest. I don't know how anyone can say he was alright against Liverpool, his passing was atrocious, he nearly misplaced as many as he got right, he was getting in the way during attacks and his first touch was really, really poor. So poor that one time where he completely miscontrolled a pass under little pressure he ended up getting needlessly booked for clipping Torres who took the ball off him.

That said, he's always done well against Bolton so it could be a good game to get him going again with a couple of goals, although he's not played in the past 3 matches against them and Berba's got 3 in those 3.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

different strokes for different folks but i'm amazed any united fan would consider having owen in the side ahead of rooney.

i really really don't rate michael owen at all, he's a shadow of his former self, if rooney were to be dropped i'd rather hernandez or macheda come in

rooney to get a brace on sunday! :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Read a rumour at teamtalk.com which stated that Sir Alex was indeed at Valencia on a scouting mission. It was widely reported that he was there to specifically look at the new look Valencia but...what wasnt reported was,he was there along with Eric Steele, our first team goalkeeping coach...whose hidden agenda was allegedly having his eagle eyes on David De Gea.

If you're still doubting then please re watch last nights match where you will see Richard Hartis (reserve GK coach) on the bench!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah there's a picture in AS of Sir Alex and Steele sat together at the Valencia match so it's pretty obvious there was 2 reasons for going.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

To be fair we hardly had the ball in that game and Bebe (along with Obertan) were the only players that showed anything, he seemed quite intent to pump it into the box that night and did put in some excellant crosses.

I think we haven't seen anything yet, only glimpses. His directness and what looks to be a great ability to dribble at pace with the ball and a sweet right foot shows theirs real potential.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I guess its too early but he seems to be played out wide and he really doesnt look like a winger. Ironically, he seems like someone who should be playing where Ronaldo currently plays, rather than the "winger" Ronaldo from before 2008.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Thing is Rune ability wise he could be Zidane but he's got poor tactical awareness and off the ball movement at the moment (understandable considering the step up in class) which means when a player is developing its best to not use them in the spine of a team. playing as a winger is tactically the easiest position to play.

If he becomes a sensation I think like Ronaldo he could be used through the middle when he has the know-how to play difficult roles such as a Lone CF.

Can't argue that. That would be the best approach.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He's looking pretty sharp at the minute.

Probably better not to drop Rooney for the Valencia game, but it would be nice to see Owen from the start of the next league game.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Great stuff from Nani also, I'm intrigued to see how his individual numbers will shape up at the end of the season. looking to have a great season

What is everyone's thought of trying Rooney LW for the time being, he less likely to score than O'Shea at the moment so theirs no harm in trying him wide to get some form going and also plug a bit of a hole in the team currently.

Grabbed this from RedCafe.

In his last 24 games:

Assists
1. Rooney vs Hull
2. Rooney vs Arsenal
3. Vanden Borre own goal vs Pompey
4. Giggs vs Villa
5. Rooney vs Milan
6. Rooney vs Fulham
7. Berbatov vs Bolton
8. Gibson vs Bolton
9. Rooney vs Bayern
10. Macheda vs Chelsea
11. won the second pen for Giggsy vs Spurs
12. Giggs vs Stoke
13. Berbatov vs Chelsea
14. Hangeland own goal vs Fulham
15. Berbatov vs West Ham
16. Fletch vs Everton
17. Vidic vs Everton
18. MAGIC BERBATOV GOAL!!! vs Liverpool

Goals
1. THAT ONE against Arsenal
2. Bayern heel flick
3. Bayern blaster
4. Spurs chip
5. Sunderland finish
6. West Ham rocket

24 goals resulting from something Nani has done in his last 24 games. Unbelieveable productivity.

That list also doesn't include his assist for Owen and Solo Goal

The big thing for me is even with his productivity sky rocketing it hasn't hindered his game but improved it so much, hes a better dribbler, passer and most importantly the decisions he makes are all better than this time last year. Hopefully he can keep that balance as he's a joy to watch at the moment

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah Nani was pretty good and that goal was GREAT!

Evans had his clumsy moments again though and had Elmander been a little more clinical, he would've been responsible for more goal conceded and more points dropped.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think we will fight for the title with Chelsea this year again as we both have the experience and quality to mount a serious title assault.

I here Utd fans criticising Fergie for his selection but 'in fergie we trust' right? He knows what he is doing, it annoys me when people slate him.

We are still unbeaten and have a solid squad particularly impressive in my opinion have been Smalling, Rafael, Gibson, Hernandez (albeit for Mexico) and i look forward to seeing bebe play.

I think a draw would be a good result at Valencia as they are looking solid again and top of La Liga, then 3 points against Sunderland could put us joint top!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

A draw would be a GREAT result at Valencia. I can't see anything other a tight loss though. Our defence has not looked up to snuff this season, and we will concede...and I'm not sure that Berbatov will get enough of the ball against a very tight, disciplined Valencia side.

I'm also predicting a relatively early red card for one of our players as part of this post-Messi injury 'you're not allowed to tackle' rule in Spain.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

yeah true, i would take a point as they are playing well and the threat of Mata must be taken seriously.

But we have to tighten up at the back at some stage, hopefully Rio, Vidic and Rafael will play and Evans, O'Shea drop to the bench.

No Schole, Giggs or Rooney but Carrick returns.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Hopefully if Brown/Rafael and Ferdinand change with O'Shea and Evans the defence will become alot stronger.

Surely its going to be a 4-5-1 playing away in europe, so maybe a

-------Carrick-------
---Fletch----Ando----
Nani-------------Park
--------Berba--------

Not too bad at all, just hoping the defence is better

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Agree with that formation. Will be really interesting to see how the players gel - given we've never really played like that before and certainly not recently. I hope Carrick and Anderson still remember what colour we play in!
