I do agree that SAF's comments at the end were really unprofessional of him. It happens in modern football, and if he just called out Ribery for doing it instead of the whole of Germany (and Ribery isn't even German) that would've made a better statement.
But in the end, bad tackles by Rafael, and he deserved to be kicked out of the game. I definitly wouldn't want to be him in that dressing room after...
And in hindsight, you can't really expect SAF to blame the whole campaign onto an immature 19 year old who still has to learn. He was really gutted in getting red carded in the FA Cup (correct me here), and his morale/future needs to be taken into account. You do agree that other than those idiotic moments, he basically held his own against one of the most sought after (and overrated) wide players in the modern game.

Ribery isnt over-rated at all. He's one of the world's most dangerous players. Less than a handful of players pose the same threat he does. Messi and Ronaldo are 2 (These 2 I'd say cause even more) and Kaka and his own team mate Robben do as well when at their best. Just because he wasn't that good in the 2 matches against you guys, one shouldn't jump to conclusions.
He showed Utd maybe 50% of what he's capable of. I thought he especially had a poor 1st half! Rafael really had his number and Franck only managed to get away from him maybe once out of like 4 attempts. But even that 50% caused its own problems and wasn't always so easy to deal with as he held the ball up comfortably a lot of times and ate up a LOT of time, drew fouls when he wanted and danced around defenders at times and forced van der sar into some more nice saves!
His performances against Utd were hardly his greatest as he's a LOT better than that and has consistently shown that for a few years now. So I can understand if somebody who doesn't regularly watch him wasn't particularly impressed on this occassion but he shouldn't be solely judged by 2 games anyway. That's just wrong to do. And honestly, ultimately, though nowhere near at his best, say what you want but he still played a crucial role in knocking Utd out and helping his team progress to the semi's.
That sweet Robben strike was a direct result of his great vision to see him unmarked on the edge of the box and then execute the perfect ball to him and of course he played a part in Bayern's equalizer in the first leg too.
As for SAF, I wouldn't say he got tactically outclassed like some said. Quite the opposite. Came in with the perfect plan and the 3-0 lead was testament to that. Rafael's sending off changed things as well as taking foot off the gas immediately after scoring that 3rd and Olic's tenacity giving Bayern a life-line and some hope before going in the break.
Shame about his bitterness and stupid 'Typical German' comment though.

becuase of inhuries ribery just played just 14 league matches in bundesliga and 6 matches in CL - only 12 times in starting eleven and just 7 of those matches he completed 90 min.
it takes some time and he will be the "old" ribery and then you won't say he's overrated at all...

Credit to Bayern, they were incredibly disciplined and kept the ball far better than most teams would have once United were down to 10. But other than that I thought they weren't particularly impressive, of course weren't against Fiorentina either until the sending off.
Looks to me like it's just 'their year'. Sometimes things just go well for you, and seizing that advantage is part of what makes champions.
As for United - pretty good performance really. Carrick should have been stronger against Olic, but then as I said before if that's the 'overly physical and mean Wayne Rooney' on big Van Buyten the ref gives a foul, 100% of the time. Because it's little plucky, down by 3 goals Olic, the ref goes for it. But in the end we didn't quite make it. Fair enough, great Robben strike.
I don't entirely understand what United fans expect. We lost two of our best players, one of the players we replaced them with will have played 10 games all season (and is predictably awol at crunch time) and Rooney was maybe 50% fit, if that. That we did so well with our squad - which was dismissed as rubbish widely on here and everywhere before the season started - should tell you that the Fergie fella still knows a thing or two.

exactly. as a defender, when u're facing robben, u know he's gonna try to slide to the left, to get the ball on his left foot and try a shoot\though ball.
when u face frank instead, u have absolutely no idea what he's gonna do. he can cut on the centre or go deep and try a cross. and this unpredictability is a huge advantage for franck.

Questions over Van Der Saar for the first Bayern goal ?? I know he made some good saves (before the 3rd Man Utd goal), and it was an accurate shot from Olic, but even so it was surprising to see him beaten from a very tight angle with a shot that wasnt the fastest.
Good to see Vidic and Olic shaking hands when Olic went off - its good to see the troubles in the region dont lead to animosity on a personal level.

You could say the same thing about Butt though tbh, i thought the Gibson goal was very poor from the keeper's perspective, he may have been slightly unsighted but there was no power in the shot and it was close enough to him, he should reacted much quicker imo.

I don't think there was much VDS could've done about the first goal.
He definitely couldn'tve expected the shot and then even if it wasn't particularly powerful it would still have gone past him by the time he could react.
Very, very few keepers would have been able to save it if any I reckon.

I think looking at it we've been extremely unfortunate and on the night things fell for Bayern. Poor Rafael was superb in the first half, very Beckham-esque IMO and the lad will learn from this he's a world beater in the making.
How good was Nani then? Showing signs of becoming World Class now and if he can keep this level for the remainder of the season and have a good World Cup and take it a level or two higher we've got one of the best in the world.
Looking at things our Defence and attack are fine but we seriously need a Scholes replacement to control the game in the middle of the park.

That said, I thought Ribery was pretty disgraceful in general. Every time he was touched he sprinted up to the ref making card gestures. It really didn't seem like the ref was going to send Rafael off until he was surrounded. Definitely could be a yellow, but also could have been a talking to. Worth noting he's a massively inexperienced ref in the highest profile match of his career. I'm sure he didn't want to appear to be a 'homer'.
Having seen almost all of the matches in Europe this year featuring English teams, it is my impression that refs are much faster to book them than others. Whether that's because of their 'hard' image or what, I'm not sure. You look at Van Bommel's two footed stamp against Fiorentina, and then Rafael's tug back - which do you think was more serious?
Anyway, doesn't really matter now. I think most United fans wish that Fergie would shut up and stop embarrassing himself, but it's not likely to change after 26 years.

to be honest i'm still far more impressed by valencia. even yesterday he came out with another fantastic performance. what a nice football player
he's always been a great player, but now that he's playing with man utd, he's getting that recognition he didn't receive in the past.

I agree, he really has come on a lot this year. One of the things that frustrates me most about Fergie is how rarely the two of them have played this season. Both are 'proper' wingers, stretch defences and have real pace.
Other than Bayern, can't think of many teams with a better duo of wide players.

Don't let context get in the way of a good dig though eh.
