Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Agreed to some extent but the main point is do we let our younger players develop into top class players or just buy big instead of waiting. I'd say CM and the flanks are our weaker area's but even then we've got Fletcher whose developing into a great player, Carrick whose a good player and Anderson a potential great player. The wings we just signed Valencia and have the likes of Nani, Obertan and Ljajic (maybe) who can possibly become great players.

Saying that Giggs and Scholes are on their last legs and maybe we need to replace them anyway within the Squad. If we do buy then I'd be happy with one of Gourcuff or Hamsik, Can't really see any winger out their that I'd say would be better than what we've already got bar Ribery.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Not sure how we lost really. Anderson was quite awful, but still we could and should have won that match. And how did that ref not give a penalty for that foul on Evra? I guess it's impossible to have a football match without these kind of mistakes happening.

On the positive point, I'm happy to see Park back in the team. I think he's a wonderful player. Obertan looked very promising as well, even though his final ball was disappointing.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

As one of the more experienced players of the team, he should have stood out a lot more.

Obertan was great though. For a winger, he kept the ball very well and found a team mate with a lot of the passes he made, his crossing is hit and miss atm though.

Should have had a penalty, defender made no attempt to play the ball, just stuck his arm around Evra.

Owen did nothing apart from when he cleverly played in Anderson at the end.

Carrick came on and played worse than Gibson.

But there were some signs of a good understanding developing between Macheda and Welbeck up front.

Rafael looked uncomfortable at left back though, would have been a good chance for De Laet to get some CL experience but whatever.

All in all, some of the youngsters outshone the experienced players tonight but against such a negative team, we needed someone like Scholes to come on and play some penetrative passing but still some positives came out of this.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Obertan looked good, but I'd love to see him take more risks.

We know he has pace to burn, and we know he has a trick or two, and yet he showed very little of that tonight. His passing was great, especially for such a young player, but like Valencia he always seems to take the safe option.

Nice to see him take a shot at least once in a match though, he certainly needs to have a go more often.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Well I can see why, Nani tries it and has been labelled shit cause off that. I think Obertan will play it safe for a while longer. Overall he had a good game but lacked similar to Nani that final ball.

Anderson was shocking, Rafael had a poor game but isn't a LB. Welbeck and Macheda tried but showed a good understanding.

Park did really well I thought. Showed why SAF played him so often last season and could well be back in the first team soon.

Overall showed promise but a few of them are still need time.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah, Park did well for somone just back from injury.

I think maybe our team didn't have the right mix, a bit too many youngsters.

Young players learn better when they are next to experienced players and our central midfield and striking partnerships were probably too inexperienced for this kind of match at this stage in their careers.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Its a shame we let our record go to waste like that but Sir Alex has never been someone who cared about stuff like that. To him its just facts and figures but I personally like us to build records to intimidate oppositions. Like how Mourinho did at Stamford Bridge.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Probably hasnt been forgiven for the comments he made recently.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

With Park back and the way Obertan is going currently I really think it could be the end for him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

For some reason, I just dont feel sorry for him. The only thing that worries me is that he's definately got talent which cant be denied, so if he joins a club that suits him better, theres a good chance he'll become a lot more effective than he has for us. In the past there was the saying that you can only do worse once you leave United but thats become debatable now.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Him not playing a low profile game such as this one can only mean that it's almost the end for him. A shame, on his day he could be a real threat.

Does anyone know where Berbatov is? I thought he played for Bulgaria not long ago (and at the same time being their greatest goalscorer). I'm really starting to miss him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Strange match - we totally outplayed a decent side with our youngsters but came away with nothing. Left me feeling somewhat down...

Anderson and Gibson were alright, but had no space in which to work because Besiktas set up a big black wall after their deflected goal. But playing for United you have to be able to deal with that.

Obertan was great, cannot believe we got him for £3m. Looks an absolute steal. Park was park - gets in good positions, loses the ball. I cannot understand why people rate him as an attacking option.

Macheda and Welbeck both have good physical and footballing attributes, but tend to do the wrong thing. Still, for their age good prospects.

We've become very one paced - slow patient build up. I don't think we quite had the talent out last night to do that against 10 men defending. I'm sure Fergie will address it, but we really needed to get the ball into the final third before they could get back and set, almost never happened.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We tried going through the middle too often, and with them having 2 holding midfielders it never really looked like working...

Can't believe the press are slating Foster for the goal last night. The shot deflected so could have gone anywhere. If it hadn't deflected I think he'd have had it covered. If anything, Rafael was to blame for not closing it down, instead he kept backing off and giving him all the time and space he wanted...

As for Berba, he was injured going just before the break, managed to make the national side, and then wasn't fit enough to play for us. I think he'll be ready for Portsmouth though...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Ay Berba's been injured. He's a quality player and has been missed, brings others into play so easily. I still think he's our biggest creative spark more so than Rooney.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Maybe I'll look stupid in a few hours, but good lord we're fielding an awful team. No pace, no energy, and all of our senior citizens together. Just awful. No idea what Fergie thinks of some days.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Portsmouth just won a penalty, and no one knows why. Not a single player appealed, and if they're going to give them for the 'contact' it was both players doing it, made no difference to the outcome and is, simply, wrong.

I'm beginning to wonder what's going on, did Fergie's comments really piss off officials this much? Are they allowed to hold a grudge?

(not that we deserve to be in front, we've been utter sh*t, as you'd guess with that squad out there)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It's just shocking. I've now seen a few replays. Just baffling. But hey, refs are never, ever wrong, so I guess I'll just respect them.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

1st pen was very very soft it was like they wanted ManUtd to lead even though their being out played in every area on the park. Then, the pen that wasn`t a pen was given . I think you lots will nick it

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah, we've been utterly sh*t, as I figured. No energy, no quality. Shocking stuff. This myth of Giggs being good this season needs to end, we essentially play with no one up front on the left but a little block that knocks it to the opposition...

Fine, that was qualtiy from Giggs.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

1 more before I start to smell like a manac  Utd reminds me of a Rocky movie 1st few rounds they get thrashed sort of speaks but at the end they come back to win the spoils...now for the shower :P

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

kuszczak has had a great game. made a few wonderful saves, if not for him we might have lost, seriously. valencia has done not too bad,so damn fast..shows a lot of potential. just needs to work on his first touch and his decision making..with obertan on the other wing, we could go back to the days of kanchelskis and a younger giggs. haha

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah, all credit to Thomas, he was immense today. Strange match, worst 4-1 I've ever seen us win!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Eh? :SS

Slow start with 2 random Pens but some of our link up play was awesome in the 2nd half. Was surprised to see 4-3-3 but it was warranted in the end with the 2nd half performance and the 4-1 scoreline.

Rooney's hatrick was good for him, needed a goal and also the hatrick will boost his confidence. joint 2nd top scorer.

Valencia was brilliant today, really used his pace, power and directness to good use. Giggs was very good in the 2nd half I thought and he HAS had a good season with the only dud's being the Chelsea game and Everton.

PIG did have a very good game though and has probably put more pressure on Foster for the 2nd keeper spot.

Overall very good, Over to you Chelsea/Arsenal:SNACK:

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Seriously, how long can Giggs keep this up for? Is there a better 36 year old player on this planet?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It was a good win because we are always patchy against Pompey.I can totally understand the 4-5-1 formation deployed...If we played 4-5-1 at Anfield,we would have won the game or at least draw it.

Wazza deserves his hattrick and that would be his confidence booster.

Giggs even said it himself that he does not even feel 36 during games or when not playing football....he only feels it the next day after a hard game! Impressive ace performance.
