Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

You liked the fact that Berba lost possession? How does that work?

You don't win football matches by performing fancy flicks that give the opposition back the ball, we learnt that with Ronaldo, once he'd stopped constantly doing the flicks and tricks and limiting them to increase their effectiveness, he became the best footballer on the planet.

Berba is basically the Ronaldo from last year without actually being any good. Looks like he's barely putting in any effort, and yet moaning at others when he does things wrong.

I'm beginning to think the only reason we play him is because he cost so much and we need our money's worth. His partnership with Rooney clearly doesn't work so he needs to be paired with Owen, but I'd much rather play Rooney because he's a far, far, far better player than Berba.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Berbatov was shocking yesterday. I think what he does offer you on a good day, the ball sticks to him, really hard to get it off him. Allows people like Fletcher to get forward.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Was just a off day for Berba. Something he needs to add though is more of a goal threat. Ronaldo was god awful at times in big games but got a goal and it was overlooked.

Valencia did well Phrase IMO, Probably should have scored though.

The issue we had yesterday IMO won't be their for long. SAF knew about it a while ago and signed Hargreaves for that job, In that time Fletcher has improved so much and is probably better than Hargreaves but when he returns we'll have 2 players who can play that role in case one is injured.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I bumped into big Edwin in Debenhams in Manc today, he was shopping with his son, had a quick word and shook his hand, he's fookin' massive.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

You misunderstood me. I meant that I liked what he was trying to do
before losing possession. With the loss of some big players and moving to 4-4-2, we've adobted a slightly negative approach where some of our players arent attacking the way we used to. So its nice to see Berba still trying to do his bit with the fancy flicks and everything. Now only if we had another player on the pitch, his work would pay off. Thats why I'm suggesting playing all three strikers cuz that will allow Owen to pick up the pieces while Rooney can continue to do his thing.

You lucky sod! When he came visiting Asia last July...My DSLR caught him quite a few times and he looks massive even in pictures!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'm not sure if Sir Alex would stick Rooney out wide on the left again and play both Berba and Owen. That would be playing all our aces at one go and when we include a proper winger on the rightside, that would be our Blitzkrieg.

How long is Fletcher and Anderson out for? I hope Obertan would be given a run out against Barnsley. If he would perform I wouldave reckoned he would be penciled into the first team sheet for the next league game.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

So Fergie is questioning Rio's form.

I do hope he drops him. because both him and Vidic need a kick up the arse at least. Dropping one of them and bringing Evans in for a run in the team might get them to book up their ideas, and Evans is a very good defender.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He's been out for a while so he's slowly being brought back. I prefer him at RB though.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

But as of right now he's not injured, right?
Cuz if thats the case, we should be using him a bit more.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Looks as though Wes'll be back tonight, presumably alongside Johnny Evans. I'm just hoping for De Laet to get a shot on the right, he has looked well above the general reserve level recently.

Is Anderson injured?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Not heard anything about Anderson getting injured.

De Laet will probably be on the bench, I can see Neville or Rafael starting ahead of him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah Anderson was on the bench against Liverpool so I wouldn't have thought he was injured. I think he might get a game tonight with Gibson in the middle.

I also hope De Laet will play, been really impressed with him whenever he's got a chance and to be honest I'm surprised Stoke weren't pushing him more and let him go so cheaply as he seems a really promising young player.

Like YoungGun I prefer Brown at rightback (2007/08) he was immense and played more games than anyone else I think, but I think SAF seems to be sticking with him at centreback lately, might be to do with his injuries.

Obertan will start apparently and I'm quite excited to see how he does after his impressive run out in the reserves.

I imagine Welbeck will partner Owen upfront again and I'd like to see Owen get a goal to boost his confidence.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Annoys me how Rio is taking the brunt of the criticism in the media, whereas Vida is getting let off a bit.

Same with how the "braver" defender Carragher is getting most of the plaudits, even though the "classier" defender, in this case Agger, actually had the better game.

I guess the media likes to big up these "brave" defenders, the prime example being John Terry, who would probably be a nobody if he hadn't played alongside Carvalho for so many seasons.

How Terry won the CL defender of the year in 2008, I'll never know, Rio was by far the best centre back in the world that season, miles ahead of Terry.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Agree.

It's no wonder Carragher looked better with Agger next to him instead of Skrtel and Johnson sticking tighter instead of constantly bombing forward.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Was pretty average performance. Saying that.... You gotta laugh at how many talented youngsters we have. I seriously think this current crop is something special (like the 95 crop).

Thought Rafael did suprisingly well in CM, Never knew he could play their but did well. Prefer him at RB though. Fabio thinks he's playing FIFA Clubs. Plays LB but is regularly seen playing as a LF, Needs to sort out his positioning.

Anderson did well, kept the ball moving and joined in attacks.

Oberton was pretty good first half, 2nd he never really got much of the ball but ok when he did get it. Surprised me though with the level of maturity his game has. Labelled as a Skill freak he kept things simple and apart from a few times made the right decision. Needs a few more Reserve outings but definitely seeing him making his Premiership debut this season. Tosic came on and did well also I thought, makes you realise how bad Nani's decision making is though when hes coming off worse than players new to the team.

Welbeck was clearly the star of the show. Was tearing them apart. I might aswell say it before you lot do but was Henry-esque. :... Unlucky to go off injured though. Macheda did well I thought, seems like hes improved his general play. looked far more comfortable on the ball but it was Barnsley.

And this isn't including the likes of Eikrem, King and Petrucci (before his injury) who all look very good. :))

Individually these players are arguably the best we've had, especially in the raw potential department. But they're still far off from being the team that we were back then.

Agree with everything else you said though. Rafael surprised me with the CM role. When I first looked at the team sheet, I thought we were going with 5 at the back with the twins on both ends. Obertan was ok but with more games he could get better. In my head I was thinking he'd be better than Valencia. IMO they're probably at the same level right now to be honest.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Anyone else feel bad for Darren Gibson? Opted to stay at United this season and press on for a place, and instead we have Rafael making an appearance for the first time in CMF..sucks..

Also, what the hell was Gary Neville doing? I'm happy to admit that Hamill guy seemed a right tit, but beating his ass 2-0 should be punishment enough. Red Nev needs to sort it out...

We have the worst disciplinary record in the league this season. And two reds in the freakin Carling Cup!

Very sorry considering Gibson is a very, very good player.

Cracking shot, decent passer and decent at tracking back and tackling, and he was one of the mainstays of the cup run last season.

Anyways, wonder why the fans kicked off last night?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

No doubt with the FA being our bestest buddies, we'll play behind closed doors for a match, Fergie will be given a stern warning and Evra will be banned for 4 matches.

Oh and Gary Neville will be banned for life following that challenge.

Anyone see the 'quotes' from Wigan's Martinez about Fergie? Pretty nasty stuff. But then, it's from AS, so I'm thinking its about 2 hours before Martinez clarifies that he never said those things, and has no idea what AS are on about.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Just seen the highlights reel of the game against Barnsley.70% of the action was from Barnsley.Totally abysmal finishing from them.Against a better team we would have lost the game!

Another point taken was how erratic Ben Foster is...even in a Carling Cup game...his distribution was poor and his positioning at times was bad.Made a few textbook saves and one great save but that was it.

Danny Welbeck is the real deal.He has deft touches and turns that reminds me of Thierry Henry. The boy is a bit special.

The thing that I like about Mickey Owen's goal is that it screams confidence.A quick turn with a burst of pace and he knew he was going to score by just looking at the keeper's positioning. He should start our next game against Blackburn.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The weird thing about Owen was that he got through earlier in the game from a Wellbeck pass, and completely cocked it up with his left foot, and at that point you were thinking "Here we go again, no confidence means no goals" and then he goes and scores a great goal via a typical Owen finish.

He definitely needs to start in the next game but we all know he won't. Fergie needs to realise that Rooney and Berbatov just doesn't work.

Wouldn't actually mind Wellbeck and Owen given a try up front at the same time because they both deserve it.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We should have gone with Wellbeck and Owen yesterday but instead the manager stuck Wellbeck on the wing. Sir Alex probably thought "He reminds me of Henry" so he stuck him there. Kinda the same with Alan Smith in midfield, just because he reminded some of us of Keano.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I thought that through ball from Welbeck was a bit heavy and Owen had already made the run.He had to drag the ball with his right peg but there goes the control and he snapped the chance with his left.Good movement nonetheless but that through ball could have been a better one.

That is why the Gaffer played Welbeck on the left wing...the boy has the ability to cut in and provide those type of passes. He is developing well and we should see a first team player soon if he keeps his feet on the ground and keep working hard.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Welbeck is apparently going in for a knee scan today :( Not clear what is wrong yet, but sure hope it's not the ole ligaments!

We were alright yesterday. Not great. Barnsley's chances almost all came either from corner kicks or after Red Nev had been a tool and reduced us to 10 men.

I'm still pleased a team made up of so many inexperienced youngsters not used to playing together did well at a tough away ground, down to 10 men for 30 minutes. Keep in mind Barnsley beat Pool (at home!) and Chelsea last year...
