Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah he needs to work on his first touch and little things like that but he looked good. Very impressed by the kids too, Cleverley took his goal superbly and looked confident all night, De Laet as I said was great, Fabio was good, Gibson was good (fuck me he nearly broke the crossbar), and that lad Rooney was pretty good while he was on too.

Owen was unlucky, some good chances but tonight it didnt go his way. I still think he'll get around 15 goals for us.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

But in Valencia team - Moya, goalkeeper in midfield?!:APPLAUD: That was so funny xD

He didn't do too bad there. The commentator on MUTV cracked us up when he said that if he carries on like that, City will be putting in a bid for him!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Good performance. The home fans deserved something like that to lift their spirit after the players we sold in the summer.
Valencia looked like the man that should have been given the number 7. Looks like we wont be missing Ronaldo that much after all.
As for Owen, a bit disappointed with his finishing but I really liked his movement and his ability to get into scoring positions. This was just one of those days for him. Any other night and he definately would have got atleast one of those in so I'm not really gonna complain.

Been a good preseason for us (unlike Liverpool ) so roll on Chelsea and then Birmingham.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Got to see the boys first hand from the North Stand today. Was really impressed with Valencia, just so damn quick. Loved the little cameo from Berba towards the end. Even though i have been a critic of his the guy just posesses so much raw skill and talent that it will be if we dont see more from him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Good performance from the lads, been a great pre season for us. Valencia is looking the part no doubt. absolutely brilliant today. also with being a better team player than Ronaldo and also tracking back and covering at all times. Owen had a real shocker, missed some good chances and probably should have atleast scored 1, He's done ok uptil now so can't complain.

Da Laet was solid at RB, really surprised how well he did. Fabio, Gibson played well. Im not sure about Tosic though, I just don't think he has the quality to make it here. Otherwise good stuff. Hargreaves and Obertan (looking forward to seeing him!) will bolster our squad when they return. :))

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah, biggest surprise has to be Ritchie De Laet. Barely put a foot wrong and also offered great attacking options. And he's 20. To be honest, thought he looked much better at both ends of the pitch than Fabio when he came on.

Gibson may not be the world's best midfielder, but my lord he has a shot on him. Every single time I've seen him player he's hit one that could be goal of the season stuff (sometimes narrowly missed). Definitely our best striker of a long shot, would be nice if he could teach Carrick and Fletcher.

I worry Valenica might get found out, but for now his approach works because he's just that little bit faster than everyone else. Pure, unadulterated pace.

Oh and Owen - if you make your reputation on finishing, you have to take 1 in 4 at lesat. That said, he did get into some amazingly good positions, and quite surprisingly looked pretty good with Rooney. Who is definitely slower than he used to be...speed training time Wayne!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Saw the game too and thought Ritchie De Laet was terrific.Speedy and tough with the tackles, can put in good crosses too.Should be another option for us,anywhere across the back.

He is our new speed demon,he puts in great crosses,he back tracks...he is Antonio Valencia.Hes looking great so far on that right wing...just like how Sir Alex will want it,he needs to shoot more because he packs power in those pegs.

Michael Owen was really unlucky not to score infront of the Stretford End for the first time.It dosent matter and it clearly dosent faze him at all.He will get goals for us.

Overall we did really well and by the looks of it,I think this is how we will line up at the weekend.

----------------Kuszczack------------------
--O'Shea------Rio--------Evans-------Evra--
-------------Carrick---Anderson------------
--Valencia--------------------------Giggs--
-------------Rooney------------------------
-----------------------Berbatov------------

Ritchie De Laet might make a deserved start ahead of O'Shea.Nani might get the nod ahead of Giggs and Fletcher might replace either Carrick or Ando.Should be good enough to win the Shield again.

Foster will probably start. Fletcher/Carrick is probably our best midfield partnership atm and Giggs definitely won't start on the wing.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Meant to be out for 3 months from when we signed him isnt he? So maybe we'll start seeing him in October?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Vida will be out too till perhaps our 2nd premiership game with a calf injury.

The current injured list are: Neville,Brown,Rafael,Vida,Obertan and Hargreaves.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

And Edwin ;]

hahaha...thats a blatant miss by me! Yes,Big Ed as well....

On that topic,I just think Tomasz Kusczack will edge Ben Foster for the starting berth while VDS is out...Many people including Sir Alex himself rate Foster very highly but I think Kusczack should not be underrated...The saves he made against Valencia were top draw... :APPLAUD:.....while Ben Foster's highlight for me during the pre season was his poor control and slip against Malaysia....

Both are really really good keepers to have as back up and this can only be described as a healthy problem for the gaffer!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Kusczak seems slightly better as a shot stopper (but Foster isn't bad, see the Derby game two seasons ago) - but he's much weaker at distribution, and I think they're both kinda weak coming for crosses/commanding the box. So it's marginal for me. And given the hype Foster has had, he'll edge it in my opinion. Tough for Fergie and for the two of them!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

But he's been bigging Ben up all through pre-season so it might dent his confidence if he goes with Kuszczak now.
