Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I doubt he'd even get in the team with the depth of options we've got in midfield.

With Gibson's impressive pre-season form, even he'd surely be ahead of Beckham in the pecking order.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah and remember how SAF blanked him after the Arsenal match... can't see it happening.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I dunno about that...

But if we are ever decimated by injuries in that area of the squad, he'd be a decent short term option.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Training at the San Siro before facing Inter in the CL, last season.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The only thing that could top Beckham returning would be if either Keano or Cantona came back as manager.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Na don't see it happening. He's just not that good any more. On the other hand credit to Becks for admitting were the biggest club out their :))

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The benefit of being Fergie is when you're labelled as cracking up, you still go on to win things. I'd never argue about him being a nice man, or particularly media savvy, but he's the best manager in the modern era.

If you'd like to label Fergie a hypocrite, that's fine. I'll put him into the 'managers that have made hypocritical statements' bucket. With every single other manager that has ever lived.

If I were you I'd be more worried about making this 'your year'. Because I honestly believe that with the momentum, players and general situation of other teams this will be your one shot at it. Fail and some of your 'world class spine' will likely think it's not worth the effort, plus the only two nailed on pool players (Gerrard and Carragher) aren't exactly getting any younger. I still think you can win the league, particularly if Rafa cops out of the other competitions to focus, which will result in a schedule similar to last year for you - 1 game every 10 games in show in crunch time. Not that it helped.

Just exactly what am i supposed to be doing to make this our year? Why would i worry about it? The world isn't due to end anytime soon, we've gone nearly 20 years without winning the league, another season wouldn't kill me.

But, tbf Ferguson is/was a superb manager, one of the best ever, but he's one of the most hypocritical men in football, ever. It's not like this is a rare occurance.

Funny thing is though, when Rafa made his comments about United (which you all like to believe was unprovoked, completely ignoring the comments whiskeynose made about 3-4 days earlier about us) it was because he was cracking up. Taggart can do the same and nobody bats an eyelid. The main reason the press never have a go at Ferguson is because he's so fucking petty that whenever anyone in the press says anything remotely negative about him or United he bans them from Old Trafford and won't speak to them. :OOOH:

Also to RuneEdge, what comments have i made that suggest i'm cracking up?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

@ UJSupernova. Think about it for a minute. What you call petty has resulted in Fergie being able to protect his players, say what he wants about other managers, remain in good standing with the media and provide his team a siege mentality. Ie, he has played the system.

Instead of thinking that your booksmart, OCD Spanish manager is the model of goateed perfection, maybe you should realise there's more to this football management game then flipboards and computer simulations. Fergie has that nous in abundance.

As for the snarky 'is/was' a great manager - erm, he made it to the final, semifinal or WON every single competition he entered last year. Now maybe you know something that has happened in the past two months that I don't, but that seems fairly current and able to me.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If they lose Alonso or Masch or worst come to worst both, They have no chance.

EDIT: Reports of Mourinho wanting the United job. I think we all know he wanted it before but he's slowly trying to get himself more attention. I think he knows the English game well but I still hold reservations about his playing style. Hasn't been the best in the market either, On the other hand would be amusing to see him wind up Liverpool fans and Rafa. Thoughts?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I love Mourinho for who he is, and think he'd be bloody funny as United manager, but it's been proven in Italy (I think someone like lo zio could really shed some light on this) that he is crap tactically.

I tend to think he can only really play one way as well, and it isn't very exciting. Though having said that, in his first season, he played Robben and Duff as proper wingers with Drogba/Mutu/whoever in a 4-3-3 and Chelsea did play some good stuff. Plus he'd make the most of our defence being excellent so we'd probably still win a fair bit.

As for his personality and mentality, he's probably the only person out there who thinks they're big enough and good enough to take over from Fergie so if he wants the job once it becomes available, then so be it.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'd like to see Ole have a shot as well.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'd love for Ole to have it, but will he be big enough to bollock the players when they're playing shit?

Yeh and like i said he is and always was a great manager, i didn't once say he was a bad manager and i didn't suggest he's a bad manager now either.

paranoid much?

fucking touchy you lot.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think it was the 'is/was a great manager' bit being misinterpreted. I assume you mean he was and still is a great manager rather than you're doubting whether he still is...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'd go for Blanc as of right now, will be good to see how he fairs with Bordeaux next season. After that if he still does well I think we should try to give him the assistant job to slowly ease him in.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Both good young players but to be fair, we've got enough good young players already!!

I thought Elm was close to signing for Everton anyway...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Eden Hazard has already outlined his "Dream" is to play for Real Madrid. Fuck that. Will be quality though.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think Ole Solskjaer will never be ready to replace Sir Alex when he retires...I dont even think he is the right man to manage our reserves too.If its a choice from our background staff to manage United...I'd choose Brian McClair....otherwise it'd have to be Senor Jose Mourinho!
