Manchester United Thread

Those 2 were Ranieri signings as well.

No they weren't mate. Ranieri left in May 2004 and Drogba was signed in July 04 and Cole in 2005. Google Drogba, many articles mentioning Drogba being one of Mourinho's first signings and wanting him for a while before hand and also Jose was fined along with Chelsea for tapping up Cashley in that whole deal.

a couple of weeks ago, just before the juve chelsea matchup, ranieri said he was the one who wanted didier ad stanford bridge, he said drogba was the last market suggestion he gave to abramovich..... and mourinho didn't deny it...

and since mourinho likes to use every chance he gets to argue with ranieri, i guess that's true. ;)

Okay fair enough mate, if that's what has been said then it's probably true but technically I was not wrong, he was signed under Mourinho. ;)

btw did sir alex ever talk about his retirement? did he ever said if he already decided when that day will come?

coz it's quite a few year now people has been talking about sir alex retirement... but honestly, he still seems to have quite a lot of fun sitting on the bench :))

He has said many different things about retiring but most of us are near certain that he will retire before he is 70. Cantona once said that SAF would probably never retire and would die in the dugout.

Well he said last season he thought maybe 2 or 3 more seasons, but then last week he said he didn't know how he would cope with it when he retires and that he is dreading the moment. He said he asks himself at the start of each season 3 things, if he is still enjoying it, if he is healthy enough, and if he has the strength to rise to the challenges. At the moment all 3 are 'yes'.

He also mentioned last season that he loves seeing his teams develop and watching the younger players grow from a promising player to a star.

I think he is reluctant to put a date on it after last time when he said he'd retire and then his wife talked him out of it and he stayed on

And then there's the whole catching up with Liverpool's trophy haul.

Kleberson.. if he's not too busy shagging 15 years on Copabanca beach in Brazil with Fatty Ronaldo!

Drogba one was summed up by Lo Zio so I guess your right on that one, When you said "Cole" thought you meant J.Cole forgot about Cashley.

everybody knew ashley cole was good so for me thats not a good signing thats just having money. carvalho wasnt a good signing for me either because he already had the player at his last club so he knows him. essien too isnt really that great of a signing, chelsea just had more money than united or he would be playing for us right now.

a good signing for me is finding someone that is under the radar or that people dont think is good enough and showing faith in them. its more difficult at a big club because the standard is so high though.

:CONFUSE:
:FAIL:

For me a good signing is one that improves your team's performance, regardless of price, status or negotiation process.

Michael Carrick seemed shockingly expensive at £14m, but his return on investment has been superb. Anelka has scored plenty of goals, but has he actually improved the team? Not sure...

Off the top of my head, the best signings in the prem over the past few years have been:

Ronaldo, Torres, Cahill, Ferdinand, Drogba, Lescott, Carrick, Essien, Fabregas, Alonso, Cech, Reina erm...

I admit I thought it was a flattering fee for Spurs. But I think he is arguably one of your most important signings in the last 5 years. Players like him don't make big headlines, but they do all the work.

PORTO! Whoo hoo!

EDIT
Great draw for us. We avoid the big teams, Liverpool and Chelsea paired together, Bayern Munich and Barca paired togther, and if we get through, we play either Arsenal or Villareal.
The only minor problem is that we play the first leg at home for both the quarter finals and the semis (assuming we get there).

Quarter Finals

QF 1. Villarreal Vs Arsenal FC
QF 2. Manchester United Vs Porto FC
QF 3. Liverpool Vs Chelsea
QF 4. Barcelona Vs Bayern Munich.

Semi-Finals

Manchester United/Porto Vs Villarreal/Arsenal

Barcelona/Bayern Munich Vs Liverpool/Chelsea

Good Draw for us seem the easiet route to final.

Do this mean we have to play at home first? in the QFs then the SFs? I would really love our 2nd legs to be at home.

Would have ideally liked to play both home legs in the 2nd leg. Arsenal have never been beaten at the Emirates in the CL and Villarreal well they're our fucking bogey team!

Neither of our second legs are at home :(
Crazy weeks:
April 8th - Porto (CL)
April 11th - Sunderland (EPL)
April 13th - Porto (CL)
April 19th - Everton (FA)

I guess we can look to exploit the away goal rule a bit more now. We always seem to get the second leg at home so if we fail to score away, theres always that fear that if they nick one at OT, they're in the drivers seat.
Its about time we put that fear into the opposition for a change.

I prefer the away leg 2nd as we know what we have to do and away goals are a killer. I'm sure if we need to score we can.

I just hope this motivates us to show up for the first leg. If we can get 3 or 4 up (wildly optimistic, I know) then we'll be able to give our first XI valuable rest...

On the contrary of a lot of people I'm quite happy at the draw.

ManUtd is the best team, but i'm expecting quite a show on both matches, but especially on OT.
