I hope the makeshift backline will hold the fort for tonight...Fletcher,O'Shea,Ferdinand and Evra will be good enough. The rest of the team will fall in place.Really hoping for a draw...aside from that loss to Milan a couple of seasons ago,we have done quite well in Italy.

Thats the same backline I'm expecting too. Anything else seems too fragile right now.

But they wont let him roam free for sure? Remember Roma? He did nothing before scoring with that towering thumping header and then Rooney wraps it up for us...These two will be key but with Berba in the team now,he creates the prefect foil for the both of them.

I feel some hard grafting work will be the key tonight, starts for Rooney, Tevez and Park would be great for this but I cant see Tevez starting. Hoping O'Shea and Evans are fit Id like to see a...

-----------VDS-----------
O'Shea--Rio--Evans-Evra-
----Carrick-Scholes------
--Park--Ronaldo--Rooney
---------Berba---------

Let Park and Rooney do alot of hard work by tracking back and getting forward at any giving time. Give Ronaldo a license in the "hole" and to support Berbatov at any time. The passing ability of Carrick and Scholes will be vital to open anything Inter lock up. I just hope the make shift back 4 will hold up whoever plays.

You may be onto something Met, I think Scholes out and Giggs in though. Switch Park and Rooney and then were sorted. I hope it doesnt rain there tonight:ANX:

Iam full of praise for Johnny Evans, what a season the lad as had so far. There aint many 20 year old central defenders as good as him in world football at the moment. Absolute class.

Im confident United will have too much for Inter in the 2nd leg. Fair do's a great first half then Inter came out a bit more in the 2nd half and a bit of cautiousness kicked in. But all in all not oh so bad

Just worried about them getting an away goal. Mourinho's sides are never easy to score against. All in all, I'm happier than I was 3 hours ago.

We should have brought Rooney on about 10 mins earlier.
Could have been worse so I'm not gonna complain. One way of looking at it is that we just have to win the home game regardless of what the score is. Its not like we have to win by a specific margin or anything, just a win.

Pretty suprised that we dominated them at home, A good result not great(that would have been a win) as long as we win were through which is pretty likely on that display.

I'm still not sure if that game was anything to go by. They could still easily beat us at home. You'd think they're be harder away but this is a Mourinho side. While most managers prefer the last tie at home for the home advantage, Mourinho has said in the past that he looks for a away game in the second leg cuz he'd rather have the away goal advantage in the last game.
If you ask me, this has all gone according to plan for Mourinho with the exception of maybe getting atleast a goal at the San Siro.

But as I said, we know what we've gotta do. So lets home for another one of those nights. You know the atmosphere will be great.

They won't be worried about Ronaldo, they know he does fuck all in big matches.

Definitely Rooney though, especially given how sharp he looked at the weekend.
what.... man i still dont understand this mentality, ronaldo scored big in the cl last year... away from OT

Just got in from Milano, I actually went over for the game. Overall good view of the game from the away stand in the San Siro, it is such a massive stadium but the pitch is narrow and I can see how AC and Inter win big games at the Siro. I was surprised at our line up leaving Scholes, Rooney and Tevez on the bench meaning Fergie was playing for a draw by the looks of things. However once the match got underway I was happy with how we dominated the first half completely it was just a shame Ronaldo didn't get a goal from the header in the 4th minute.

The 2nd half I did get worried about the shots Inter were taking however once United woke up it was a bit of a cagey affair and I felt Rooney was introduced 10 mins too late... if he was on the pitch 10 mins earlier I think we would have come away with a goal.

Do I worry that a lack of an away goal might affect the tie at OT? I do however I forsee once we have Vidic back in, the OT atompshere will see us through to the QFs. However again expect a cagey affair at OT.

Will post the one or two pictures I got once I get a chance. Right now I'm knackered and hitting the sack!

Vidic will be back, Rooney will start, a regular right back will be back too and we should dominate again at OT.One thing to point out is that we played kinda of a slow game if being compared to the Premiership. If that game is a yard stick race between the Premiership and Serie A then the Italians have a lot of catching up to do.

Nevertheless, Jose "The Special One" Mourinho didnt show up at the game.Inter didnt look special at all and although he won't admit it but he knows his side we're lucky not to concede.

Our makeshift backline thwarted their attack very well, especially Evans.I'm not sure if there is any other 20 year old is as good as our Jonny! Their rookie full back Davide Santon also looks like a great prospect, very Maldini like, tall, strong and fast.Senor Zanetti didnt look like aging at all, still as fast and as capable like way back in 99.Cambiasso was also impressive in holding their midfield but other than these 3 players,Inter was quite ordinary.

We should be able to beat them come the second leg.C'MON UNITED.

One thing that concerned me was that our defence didn't win many headers against Adriano & Ibrahimovic. Luckily they didn't create much, but we can't let them do it again. Vidic being back should stop it though.

Another thing - if Cordoba plays in the second leg we should exploit him.
When Ronaldo put a ball across the box he was lucky not to give a penalty away for wrestling Berbatov. He also lunged two-footed at Rooney (after Rooney fouled Cambiasso and got booked)...

Ronaldo was unlucky. 2 great headers, and several on target free kicks.
As phrase said, if we could have upped the pace of the game in the second half we would have caused all sorts of problems for them, especially as they had 2 defenders on yellow cards.

Cup Final this weekend. Hopefully we can win the first of four trophies :RSCARF:

Cordoba is an excellent, quick and strong defender...his block on Giggs's shot was world class.

If anyone should be exploited on the night,it should have been O'Shea...Luckily Ibrahimovic didnt do shite to him.I cringe every time he has a bad touch(lots of times last nite) or when he just hoofs it away.

Kind of gutted by last night's performance, but proud at the same time. Difficult to know what to feel. We controlled them pretty effectively, especially considering O'Shea and Evans didn't quite look right, which meant carrick and Fletcher had to stay back in their own half for the majoriy.

A fear a scoring draw at OT. Would be just like Jose...and yes I'm still bitter about Porto's win.

Ronaldo was immense yesterday, (Bit of a myth now about him in the big games) probably his best game this season, I seriously think Mourinho and Inter are/were shocked at how dominant we were. I can see us winning quite well if we play anything like that, Rooney should have been brought on earlier for sure.

The big games are coming thick and fast, Cup final line ups?

----------Foster-----------
Rafael--Evans-Vidic--Fabio
Ronaldo*-Gibson-Scholes-Nani
--------Tevez--Rooney

* Ronaldo may be given a rest with Welbeck playing.

I dont know why we predict line ups cos we always get them wrong!

Code:
          Foster
?????? Evans Vidic Fabio
Nani Gibson Fletcher Park/Giggs
        Welbeck Tevez

 Thats the great thing, are squad is so strong and big it keeps us guessing,

I think Anderson might get a game

Yeh but he's injured at the moment but SAF did say he would play Ando, Just dont think it will be from the start, especially as he wont be match fit.

Cordoba is an excellent, quick and strong defender...his block on Giggs's shot was world class.

That's one thing thats stuck in my mind.

Just as Cordoba moved over to stop Giggs getting in the shot earlier than he did, Giggsy had the perfect opportunity to slide an unmarked Berbatov in, and he didn't. I have no doubt in my mind that was a goal if Giggs had passed it.
