Manchester United Thread

Are league position is good, I just dont think we'll win it this season. I think we can only win 1 trophy this season and when it comes to the crunch fergie will push for the CL.

I didnt think we'd win it either but our closest challengers are chelsea and they aint playing well at all and still have hard away games...

lfc, well come on did anyone really think they could really challenge, the past 18 years have been no fluke!

its a shame the gooners cant mount a decent challenge, but could still have a major say in how it finishes!

Us going to japan is gonna be interesting, arsenal play liverpool and chelsea are at everton, aslong as we stay close to the front it could go in our favour...

I'm starting to think its gonna be another 3-in-a-Row!

I've always said we'll win the league, and this weekends results provided a nice little argument, we're gonna have games in hand, and if we win the one we've already got, we're 2 points behind Chelsea, and a win off the top. We play the other top three at home, I think we'll find it tough against Chelsea, and who knows, Arsenal will probably beat us, because they'll beat everyone of their rivals this year, but I'm pretty confident we'll beat Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Japan throws a spanner in the works, so it'll basically depend on how we deal with playing more games, especially with how far away we're going.

Still think Liverpool are a big threat. I can't see them fucking up really. Their midfield is very strong. Scoring will be their problem. Them getting Torres back fully fit may not be as good as they think as it could turn their attack into a bottle neck in the same way we were when we relied on Ruud too much.
Still, we're not fucked and as long as we keep up, it's big pressure on them looking over their shoulders.

Can't wait for the Japan games to be honest as it means I can get to bed early after watching instead of the usual 3-4am.

Here is a little insider news regarding our new home and away kit next season.

It will be red with a black 'V' design across the chest ala FC Bordeaux. The away will exactly the same with black as the main colour with a red 'V' instead.3rd kit will be either this season's white and blue or the all blue away kit.

This design is to commemorate the early era 1910-20s.I looked up here only to find a shirt with a similar V design is during 1922-1927 but it is a rare white home kit.

This insider news is brought to you by my best friend who works with this particular US sportswear company.*cough*.

Interesting, that dont sound like a Man United kit at all!

Tevez's 3rd goal tonight is something special :)

Well, I'm back, and fooking freezing, right at the top of the North Stand, and the game wasn't brilliant but ah well.

Not often you can see 8 goals and the game was crap. Blackburn played pretty much their full team, and if they continue playing that bad, they'll be relegated. I feel so sorry for Ince, because the players just don't give a shit for him, and it's not his fault.

Anyways, onto us. The only guy I was dissapointed with was Nani, who is just fucking useless, sell him now or we'll never get any money for him. In a game playing with non first teamers, against a Blackburn side that don't give a shit, he plays awful.....why bother with him?

Tevez was amazing, seriously. His movement is fantastic, he plays like its his debut and he's trying to impress, which is exactly what he needs to do. It's such a shame that he can score 4 goals, contribute massively to a game and generally be amazing, and then he'll be on the bench or not even in the squad for the next game.

Team didn't play brilliantly, played some beautiful stuff in fits and starts. The fourth goal was wonderful, Anderson, Giggs and Tevez one-twoing around Blackburn, thought we might see Andersons first goal but he was unselfish and gave it to Carlos for his hattrick.

All in all, we did what we need to do. One of Derby, Spurs or Burnley for the semis. They'll probably set it up for an all-prem final, but it'd be nice to see Burnley make it, so I'd rather see us get Spurs in the semis.

I swear Berbatov and Rooney will start the next game, and he'll barely be given a chance.

The guy gives 110%, the fans love him, he loves the fans, and hes one of the most talented players to wear our shirt. Yet it seems we won't pay for him to sit on the bench.

Rooney and Berbatov are still the better players nothing can change his ability. I think we should try a 4-3-3 though without Ronaldo starting maybe for the next match

Seems to me like they're just trying to bring his value down by not playing him. If he'd had a blinder of a season we'd be paying 30M, but maybe now just 20M. It could backfire and he ends up at Madrid, though I'm not sure now they have Huntelaar.

I think that could work if we use Evra and Raphael for the width but their stamina would really be tested though.
It's still worth a shot IMO.

Given that Nani has been woeful, Giggs is past it and Park doesn't exactly light up the park, surely Fergie with all that brainpower can come up with a way that our front 4 can be the big boys? Something like:
------------VDS------------
-Raf-----Rio----Vida--Evra-
-----Carrick--Fletcher-----
---Ronaldo-------Tevez-----
----------Berba------------
---------Rooney------------

With the idea that Ronnie, Tevez and Rooney don't really stay anywhere in particular, but all 3 of them rotate around Berba, who plays centrally and distributes. The danger comes in the form or Ronaldo's inability to offer defensive cover. No doubting Tevez will do that, but it leaves one of our flanks wide open.

Nani is doing what Ronaldo did years ago, being hurrendously selfish, not playing as a team player and his delivery has been shocking. I dont say sell him, I say develop him!

As for the Berbatov situation ive always been dead against signing him, he is a Van Nistelrooy type player and the way we played our football completely changed when we signed Ruud, we went through a baron spell of not dominating the league, we then sell Ruud, change our style to a much more free moving attacking style with Tevez and we win the League and the CL.....

I dont think Berbatov works hard enough in my opinion, he spends most of his time walking around not looking particularly interested.

@ DJ - Disagree with Ruud/Berba comparisons. Other than kind of looking similar on the TV and walking a lot, their playing style and purpose is drastically different. Ruud was the prototypical centre forward. He didn't venture out wide, he played on the last defenders shoulder and he chilled in the box. He remains the most naturally born finisher I've ever witnessed, and at his peak was probably the best pure goal scorer of the modern era. He wasn't great at dribbling, didn't have an amazing first touch, didn't have vision, coudln't pick a pass and certainly couldn't cross. All he could do was stick the ball in the net.

Berbatov is very different. I've not seen much evidence to suggest he's a good finisher, he's never scored all that many in a season, even with penalty duties at spurs. He is rarely in the six yard box, almost never runs in behind defenders and barely ever seems to be in the right place at the right time. What he does do is control and orchestrate the attack. He often drops off the defense to connect with the midfield, pick his head up and involve either his strike partner or the wingers. His main attributes are possibly the best first touch in football, a good brain and a deft passing ability. He seems almost a pivot around which the rest of the attack can play off of.

Anyway, just saying they're almost opposites in terms of attacking talents. Now which is better for United...that's a tough one. I would argue United were rather good when Ruud had a great midfield supporting him, we did win the league and he scored like 44 goals or something ridiculous. Then the invincibles came along and Ruud was being supported by a CMF partnership of Giggs and O'Shea...

That side is jus way to attack minded. What would happen is Ronaldo wouldnt track back(and probably be the furthest forward) Tevez as a LM? he may track back but he's no winger. I think the side that faced City is our best 11. Was extremely well balanced.

-------Rooney--Berbatov---------
Ronaldo--Carrick-Fletcher-Park
Evra----Vidic--Ferdinand--Rafael
-----------Van-Der-Sar---------

Thing with Park is he gets in such good positions but then fucks it up so makes himself look bad. Still better than Nani though. It wouldn't hurt trying Carlitos on the left for a couple of games, didn't he have a few games for West Ham there?

The Park and Rafael partnership would work well I think they both balance each other out. I wouldnt play Rafael with someone like Nani,Ronaldo and since you lot are mentioning it Tevez. Dunno why you lot think he should be played there :SS He'll get plenty of games as a CF anyway.

Another point we have to remember here is that if we play Rooney, Berba, Tevez and Ronaldo, we won't have anyone on the bench so cover them in case someone gets injured.
I think rotation is the only option we have. And to be honest, I get the impression Berba's only getting games because of how he behaves when things arent going well for him. And because we paid so much for him.

I hope so. With Madrid signing Huntelaar they shouldn't be interested in pinching Tevez anymore.
Berbatov has clearly got a phenomenal talent, it's just his 'relaxed' workrate that annoys me sometimes. Ronaldo does it too, especially when we're countered against from a corner or something and he's still slowly walking back to the half way line.
I hope Tevez is rotated into the first XI more, he was awesome for us last year.
Though as we all know, no-one is bigger than the club so we'll just have to wait until the end of the season to see what'll happen.

I hope we absolutely hammer Sunderland tomorrow. Just for the fact that their fans were complete c*nts last year (singing Liverpool songs and trying to start a fight from the safety of their police barricade after the game).

I guess United were getting a bit too close to the top of the table, so the FA had to sweep in and ban Evra for four matches. Can't have that three-peat now can we Soho square?

So the basic rule is, if you get racially abused like Mido, no punishment. If you get racially abused and fight back like Evra, you get a 4 game ban. If you break someone's skull with a deliberate elbow, you get a yellow card. Good job boys, you're earning your money.

Well, it's games like that which decide seasons. So in that sense I can be positive, because we won.

But for fucks sake, what an awful match that was. Sunderland should be fucking ashamed of themselves, regardless of losing their manager, etc, sitting with 11 men behind the ball is just bollocks, and it's not fair on the fans.

We should really look at ourselves and wonder why it took so long to find a way through their defence, I mean, it's not like they are any good at defending is it?

Ronaldo decided he couldn't be arsed and Berbatov was useless.

Oh and we now don't have a Stretford End (or was it the East Stand?) because Vidic destroyed it celebrating.
