Manchester United Thread

Well there clearly was some effort from the City fans to get him sent off. After the horn sound there is a whistle, but it's nothing like a referees whistle, and he had a free header, so I really don't get it.

Still, brilliant performance from the lads today. Rafael and Evra had good attacking games, I like them as a full back set. Defensively there were questions asked when City ran at them, probably why they got bookings really, but ah well.

Midfield was good, Fletch and Carrick had excellent games, and thank god Carrick hadn't been booked when he took Wright-Phillips down.

Rooney was excellent, and Berba was pretty effective at times, especially in the first half.

Lets hope we go on a run now then, as I think December was our best year last year, whose to say it won't be this?

Such a weird one on the Ronaldo thing. Does anyone know if the rule is 'deliberate handball' or 'attempting to gain an advantage using the hand'. Because he wasn't gaining any advantage. Still, aboslutely shouldn't have been bokoed the first time. I thought the ref was on a mission, I mean what, 10 bookings and it was far, far from a dirty game. When you book players like the Rafael one, you're setting yourself up for problems as a referee. I just want to see some common sense.

Derby win! Get in, Ref was trying everything to get atleast one sending off the cock. Ronaldo was as unlucky as you can get, first was a clean challenge let alone a booking, the second was a nothing incident FFS! he had a clean header to smash it in, how was he trying to gain a advantage.

Berba today proved the doubter just how different of a side we are when he's on song. Brilliant first half, ok second but that was our best performance of the season no doubt, bring on Spurs :DD

I dont think you can, anyway he'll only miss a CC game anyway! (thank fuck:DD) Whats more fustrating for me with the sending off is why wasnt Terry sent of for that two footed lunge, anything to do with him being England's Lion™.

I think with Terry, Sagna (was it?) was on the ground too which made it harder to see. I agree it should've been a red but I don't think the ref had that clear a view of it.

Howard Webb was shocking. Several times when we had a clear foul not given to us, they countered, we tackled, our player got booked. Ronaldo got his 1st yellow despite winning the ball FFS.
Richards should have been booked for a high challenge that left studmarks on Vidic's chest.
At least he booked Ireland for a similar incident to Rafael (who was outstanding in keeping Robinho quiet).

I can't defend Ronnie for the second one, I kept watching it on Sky+ trying to find something! The only thing I could see was Richards trying to put his hand on his back, but it was minimal and wouldn't have been a foul. Even if he did hear a whistle, heading the ball wouldn't have warranted a card.
Strange one...

Anyhoo, nice to see us close the gap on Chelsea. Just need to pray for a miracle from West Ham against Liverpool tonight...!

I thought the reason Ronaldo put his hands up was cuz he thought he heard the whistle and a foul was given for something.

Yep, I was trying to hear a whistle over the klaxon or an incident that would have led to the whistle going.
Though usually if the ref tries to halt play ie from a free kick he blows the whistle several times in quick succession.

We rightfully deserved the win.We came out with gunz blazing in the first half and deservedly took the lead.Should have got the second from Rooney's sublime chip to lock down the game but credits have to be given to Joe Hart for the awkward save.Happy for Rooney on becoming a centurion for us,had a great game to top it off.

Winning the derby was great but having the leader of the table, lose to a struggling side is a bonus!

What are the chances of us signing a new central midfielder to cover for Hargreaves in January?

Heres a rumour.

Miguel Veloso (Sporting CP) to come to Man Utd in the January window for ¿18mil. Plays defensive midfield and is superb at set pieces and free-kicks. Carlos Tevez to leave Man Utd this January for ¿32mil going to spanish giants Real Madrid. Frazier Campbell to be recalled from Tottenham and return to his home at Old Trafford.

Obviously we wouldn't get any money for Tevez with which to finance a move for Veloso. We've been linked with him a few times in the past, but at that price I just don't see the sense if we think Hargo might be back and able to play at his best in the future. Ando, Fletch, Scholes and Carrick (Possebon?) are just going to have step it up, IMO.

Tevez is our player until the end of the season. I doubt we need a midfielder, Fletcher has stepped up and is becoming a regular know, Carrick is immense and you then have Anderson slowly developing and a fit Scholes to come back. Tosic is a winger which we needed. Simple put we dont need anyone.

Well either way there was definitely a whistle right after the klaxon.

Clearly an attempt by City fans to cause something, and cause something they did.

The FA should really investigate things like that, but they wont.

Moving on the lads just been named 2008 Ballon d'Or winner. Great achievement and he's now got his name along side Best, Charlton and Law as the 4th United player to win it, Also about time SAF has got a player to his name to be the named it.:SAL:

Congrats to CRonaldo, of course hte papers in the UK all still question him, despite him getting almost the maximum number of votes for first place. He deserves it for his performances, now if only we could work on his PR...

Oh and he has come out and said he heard Micah Richards yell, then a whistle, so he stopped for that. To be fair, Richards was on the ground yelling (and of course jumped right back up post-card, tough british lad he is) and the first thing Ronaldo did was look at him when he landed. Oh well, misses Blackburn (carling).

Speaking of which, anyone know if that game will be on anywhere in the world? Was bummed I missed last match of the kids.

Beachryan I think this one will get aired, the last one didnt get aired at all but with the Premiership sides and lesser CC fixtures im sure somone will air this one.

@ YG - Yeah I agree it should be, I mean an all prem side, at OT, but its definitely not on domestic UK television. Hopefully it'll be broadcast on one of hte many web mediums out there. Was tempted to try and get to the match, but work said nadda to the afternoon off. Curses. No festive cheer.

Interesting fact lads, we've matched last years points tally with the same fixtures played. and if we beat Spurs were then 2 points ahead of last year as we drew there.

If we beat Spurs we're ahead of our points haul from last season as we drew with them last season.

Well I'm in row 2 of the North Stand for tomorrows game, which is if I'm right, below pitch level. Fun times...

Still I'm never gonna complain 'cause I get to see the boys live.

Have two season tickets here, and I don't wanna give them back!

We can't let the Carling Cup slip now that Arsenal are out.
I WANT A QUADRUPLE DAMMIT!

 I seriously thought the treble was one last season. Remember saying it was over when we got knocked out the FA Cup and a few from other clubs were saying "bit early to think about that" but I new it was one of those seasons, Reckon we may come close to the CL but can't see the league happening.

The league isnt as bad as it looks. We win our game in hand and we're 3 points off the top spot. Plus Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool all have to come to our home to look for a win. We've already played those teams away.

Are league position is good, I just dont think we'll win it this season. I think we can only win 1 trophy this season and when it comes to the crunch fergie will push for the CL.
