hargeaves is pretty direct so he will add an edge, he also is a decent on set plays (as is tevez)...

we will miss rooney big time, some of his touches yesterday we're class, the good thing is that tevez is similar so he should carry us through and at least he'll be nearer match fitness for the derby...

I've got no complaints about yesterday really, had Rooney not been injured we would have banked the 3points but as soon as he went off we lost our spark...

Other than that the team played okay, we didnt conceed any goals and created over 20 chances...

we only have one person who can lead the line, a centre forward, saha and he'll be unfit for a fair portion of the season. ( i don't count solskjaer but that's a different conversation )

Tevez, Rooney, Giggs, Ronaldo, Anderson, Nani all tend to play deep. I'm not saying they can't adapt but all are unproven leading the line.

i'm also not saying that we can't play without a recognised centre forward in 75% of our matches, we'll still do alright but we're cutting down our options, without options you become predictable.

we've arguably the best team in definitely the best league in the world, we need these options, it's rare that you get by without them, for the big games in the premiership and europe you need plan a, plan b etc.

had we been able to change things on sunday we more than likely would've got the 3 points, we had 70% plus of the posession ffs! Conclusion go out and buy Anelka for the £10 mill he's availbale for!

I don't think we need to buy anyone. I know it's 2 months but that will soon pass.

We survived the injury crisis last season without spending, and the squad is bigger now, so I think we'll cope :)

Out of interest what is Man Utds feeling on the constant reference to Chelsea's injuried last year?

I say this because it seems as though all these people in the media have VERY short memories.

I recall the year before Man Utd having something like five strikers out of action...Rooney was out for months, Solskjaer for the season, Smith was goosed and Saha out too etc.

I also recall a similar horrific injury list of strikers for Liverpool that season.

I just wonder why last season when Chelsea had the bad injuries to Cech and Terry, just wonder why no one pointed out this fact fromt he year before?

Chavski are the new posterboys of the Premier League,thats why.It dosent bother me one bit.Even Sir Alex has came out and said that defending the title wasnt as hard as it was in the 90's.We have moved on from strength to strength now and its clear that our rivals are intimidated.

Injured. Also im glad you havent included Silvestre in your lineup Phrase. Why the fuck is he still in our team? if you ask me he is a huge liability!

I'm an Evertonian and even I know that Ronaldo would be highly unlikely to play in that position. Tevez is the striker Ronaldo the winger not the other way around.

the way phrase has the forward players is spot on in my opinion.
Tevez normally plays deep. Ronaldo is the best suited player to lead the line as he can compete in the air. Ronaldo would have to stick to the role though and not continually drop deep to get involved earlier

at centre back he's a liability but at left back he does a job

yeah like most say, the formation someone posted is probably the best we can do atm, execept swap tevez and ronnie around.

Still a decent team we have, and should be good enough to win. Pompey looked decent on Day 1 though, hard to tell what kinda team will show up for them

i think his quality is nowhere near the quality needed to play for man utd
neville is getting older and brown is the other option
i really think you need another (quality) right back

regarding rooney, i think you will be weaker but you'll be fine
tevez is a great player and you've also got anderson

I like Wes. He could have gone elsewhere and been first choice RB, but chose to stay and fight. His workrate is good, and is unfortunate that there are other quality players keeping him out.
He just needs to play more and get his confidence up.

The reason to why I would put Ronaldo as our main striker for now as he is the only one direct enough to play that role.His strength in the air is also a plus.We all know he would shoot anywhere around the box rather than look for a pass.Let Tevez and Giggs set the play up for Ronaldo.

Wes Brown is a smashing defender,one of my favourites really.I believe he has shaken off his injury problems and is ready to step up as a regular.He just needs to make that right back berth his own and that will make him a better player.

Mikael Silvestre has been a great servant for us.He was in our first eleven not too long ago until injuries and competition pushed him out.I believe his natural and best position is at left back.He was playing at that position when we first noticed him at Inter Milan.He did great against Reading and should be given more chances this season.

It'd depend where he went wouldn't it? (I first saw him play at RB for the U-15s)
Either way he's one to keep. He might even oust Neville before long.

But Ronaldo causes problems, gets freekicks, etc., because of his runs, diagonals...

Guess it's a headache for Sir Alex.

wes brown isn't good enough in my opinion, defensively he's sound but his distribution isn't good enough especially at right back, i'd rather see owen hargreaves fill in at right nack

A) Ronaldo doesn't finish anywhere near as well as Tevez.

B)Simply isn't striker but a winger

C) The goals he has scored come from totally different positions

D) Ronaldo's does not have the type of skill that is required of a striker- but a winger. He can't hold a ball up that is delivered in, can't play with his back to goal etc...none of these are critisisms of Ronaldo as he isn't a striker.

Oh well....Ferguson is the one who will decide not anyone else.

We should play with Tevez up front with 3 free roaming wingers (Giggs, Ronaldo and Nani) behind him. Simply switching wings can be prepared for. But if they constantly mix up all three players between the left, right and central positions, imagine how hard that would be to pick up.
